I don't understand much of anything I've read in A Brief History of Time, so I'm probably wasting my time in reading it.
Unless, of course, that life-style is to argue with pop-culture-obsessed pornographers on the interwebs to spite our diabetes.
But look, even Mr. Hawking attests that there might be nothing to gain from seeking a unified theory of the universe, and he uses a parenthetical, Mr. @Cowlick's favorite. That's just as good as if Mr. Hawking had preemptively admitted defeat to @Cowlick's superior intellect.
Also, will never see "American Stupor", "Sponge-brose", or the Hawking flick. (Figure he called his book "Brief History Of Time" so people would think he wasn't wanting/trying to waste a bunch of anyone's.)
Source.Stephen Hawking said:(It is worth noting, though, that similar arguments could have been used against both relativity an quantum mechanics, and these theories have given us both nuclear energy and the microelectronics revolution!) The discovery of a complete unified theory [of the universe], therefore, may not aid the survival of our species. It may not even affect our life-style.
