There's never been any proof that Barb had breast cancer beyond what Chris has claimed.

The safe bet is that Barb had been sick at some point and had to go to the hospital. From there either Chris jumped to the conclusion that Barb had cancer or that Barb has exaggerated her illness (in order to guilt and manipulate) and Chris is just parroting what she's said.

As for @Cyan's question as to whether or not the April 2 hearing will be the "real deal," I am assuming they are asking whether or not that hearing will involve the final disposition of the case.

My take: I would be surprised if it doesn't take at least one more hearing to get to a plea (and I'm assuming here that he'll take a plea -- if he doesn't, over what I assume would be the strenuous objections of counsel, things will almost certainly drag on quite a bit).

I've been through the VA court system when I was a kid (never convicted though). There's a TON of procedural bullshit in Virginia. The April hearing is still a prelim. All they'll do is make a decision on whether to move to a grand jury and then to circuit court as a felony, reduce the charges to a misdemeanor and try it in district court, or dismiss the case. So unless he takes a plea or the case is dismissed, the case won't be over.

And it will drag out forever. Chris isn't going to take a plea because he feels he's right (because he just can't be wrong about stuff), and he's not paying for the PD. As long as someone else is paying for his legal representation, why should he care how much it costs?

I already feel sorry for this poor chap. He'll try to broker a plea deal involving community service or something but Chris will stubbornly refuse.

Perhaps this has been mulled over elsewhere and I have missed it

...but why in the fuck would Chris think to bring up trolls at all during this trial or any court session dealing with the pepper spray? It literally has nothing to do with trolls whatsoever by his own admission. I mean, in the Game Place 2011 incident he insanely thought that Michael Snyder and the patrons at Game Place were actively waging cyberwarfare on him so in his twisted reality I can see why he'd probably pester Rob Bell to bring it up. But here it was in his own words "good protest" against Sonic Boom and Sega, not trolls.

He's just using each and any excuse he can think off to mitigate some damage.
If he brings up trolls, he'll do so to garner sympathy and pity from the judge.

Chris certainly won't be the first troublesome client the PD ever had, so I guess he'll be fine. I would not be surprised if Chris' attitude would make the PD hostile in the long run. You know, like with everyone else Chris has ever dealt with?
The PD won't do a shitty job, but he will not rip himself apart to please Chris, he's gonna put in the bare minimum of effort the moment Chris starts to insist on outrageous demands and refuses to take bargains the PD had set up.
But maybe Chris will somewhat remember a few things from the time Rob Bell was his defendant and now he's just waiting for his PD to get a good deal. If his indignant self-righteous attitude prevails, he's gonna go down with this ship at full sails, though.

My guess is he'll take the plea, but will still convince everyone he was in the right, "I was forced to falsify my testimony because those damned "lawyers" and "Juuuudge" couldn't see the truth that was before their cold, hate filled eyes! Is a little common sense to hard to ask for!?"

Wow, I'm surprised this thread is still open after all this time, it sucks having barely any internet on the small island (currently, I'm using whats a very weak signal. I can read but I can't reply)

I'm grateful for both accounts, and as informative as they were, the trial itself still lacks any meat. I understand though, they just met their Public Defender, there will need to be more time to study the case, but that brings me to what I mean by "Meat"

Whether its on April 2nd, or whenever future dates may be added. I just cannot wait to hear everyone's reaction to what this whole case was about in the first place

I actually think he'll take a plea deal. He's dumb yes, but he's also lazy. If the PD has a working brain, they'll impress upon him how much time and effort it's going to take to drag this case into trial and Chris will fold and take the plea deal to spend more time at home with his legos.

I agree with @Stud2Stud though, I doubt Chris is going to phase a PD. My father was a PD for a couple years and when you're working felony cases, you run into some actual lunatics. Chris is weird, but not psychotic.

If Chris felt especially devious, he could take such a plea and bank on the fact that his previous community service petered out.

Though that would also require him to not be a total chickenshit.

The consensus around the time was that they very likely got cushy service, given Chris's "adult autistic childishness" and Barb's age and attendant health problems. It's perhaps no coincidence that Rocky was at their hearings.

Then again, while they were formally sentenced at a hearing in a court of law, who knows how that might have been changed in a bureaucratic setting.

I know in Texas I believe some places you can actually buy off your community service hours in cash to the municipality (legally I mean). Maybe in Virginia too? Though I doubt the Chandlers would cough up $.
