I am resigning effective immediately from my position in CSAIL at MIT. I am doing this due to pressure on MIT and me over a series of misunderstandings and mischaracterizations.

Him resigning from MIT probably means he is homeless now. From what I recall he doesn't work there, but they granted him a residence to live in.

Fuck. I was going to post about this if I didn't see this thread. It's actually quite depressing because while RMS is a weirdo he's a good soul and tries to be nice, conciliatory understanding and kind. I'm sure all of this is just because he wanted to think the best of a colleague.
My working hypothesis is that after his appearance at Microsoft some Vice muckraker went digging for dirt and found some emails they could quote out of context to make a hit piece out of it and collect a scalp.
It's even sadder that in his statement he lays out quite clearly he's quitting due to pressures.
He didn't deserve this.
