Also, I'm sure judges get threats all the time. Why would these alleged threats have any bearing on what he should be doing as a judge?

As for the legality behind it? Well frankly can bet it will piss off the judge and the mediation is probably something that would come up if an appeal was to be made.

I do not know. What I do know is that the plantiff cannot make an appeal unless the case is ruled on completely and the defense is probably waiting for the ruling too before making an appeal.

If the judge said anything to create that impression, that isn't just an appearance of impropriety, it's actual impropriety.

Yes. If the perp was careful, there may be little they can do, but if it was some dipshit like that idiot who said vaguely threatening things to Rial under his real name, they're looking at a serious felony.

There is a major difference between the parties not liking each other and being hostile, and one of the parties only goal being to destroy the other party.
Mediators assume hostility, they do not assume pure malice and a desire to burn the other side to the ground regardless of the cost.

Mediation won't extend deadlines, which is why it's unusual for mediation to come up at this point in the process. The TCPA deadlines are absolute. If you miss the deadline, you better have a very good reason for it and hope the other party is willing to let it slide because it would be a major prejudice to them if you go after the deadline.
