It Begins! Funimation to be merged with Aniplex, and Sony in purchase discussions with Apple.

Put me down for “Sony orders Funi to settle quickly and quietly. Get NDA’s up, and stop the ongoing brand damage as soon as possible”. Given the not unexpected upheavals the better option for Sony would be to get out from any potential liability quickly. TCPA succeeding just dumps them into a long drawn out appeals process where the bad PR keeps on going. Settling now with NDA’s in place makes it all go away. Plus whoever ends up in charge of the combined Ani Funi isn’t gonna want to take ownership of this mess. Shut it down now and move on.

I think the bottom may have just fallen out of the Texas VA market.

This was discussed a while ago. They're making a new EU studio. It's not the US ones. It's not a merger.

Edit: Wait, apparently that was the Viz and CR EU thing? Hm. One of the two articles being from 9/6 was what threw me.

There's a catch 22 either way.

Either they wrongly terminated a man and defamed him to the tune of several million, or they let a sexual deviant rape his away across the anime scene for decades. After all, it was an "open secret."
I agree, but their wording on his firing are why they're in this mess.

Perhaps, but cowards don't get my money either. Selling decade+ friends down the river makes you trash.. slightly more financially secure trash perhaps, but still trash.
You should chill out. She didn't "sold a decade+ friend down the river", she just didn't mention him in a tweet about an anime he worked on.
Some people won't ever breach a contract for personnal reasons, and you may call it cowardice, but it's also called professionnalism.

Granted we don't know where she stands yet, the possibility she has been ordered to not mention him and just did as told still stand.

And by the way, contract breaching is a part of what caused this mess, so it would be nice to not have double standards about it.

That, or importing to support the source material. Western middlemen like Funi/Netfux are cut off forever. Only industry taint comes from them.

Also an interesting question, what happens to Funi's (Sabat's) studio? If it's Sabat's own studio, is he gonna be dropped by Sony only to weasel a way into contract work with a company like Sentai?

So, Crunchyroll's cancer is being combined with the sensible Viz?... this won't end with CR's cancer overtaking them.

If you think she’s a coward for not risking her job while working at a multi-million-dollar company that’s on the verge of a mergence, then I shudder to think how you feel about hundreds of millions of employees that work at billion-dollar corporations who could easily get fired just by accidentally farting.

This is more than just Caitlin Glass not mentioning someone at a tweet, or liking a few tweets by Jamie and Monica. She’s working in a company that’s clearly a pit of snakes, but she’s also working at arguably the biggest dubbing studio in America, one that is about to merge with Aniplex. She’s also married, has a house and tons of support networks and friends that she could easily lose with a snap of a finger.

Rather Caitlin is pro and anti-Vic remains is remains to be seen (I personally feel she’s just trying to mend the fences here. Let’s not forget, she’s been friends with Vic, Monica and Jamie for many years), but that's not the point. The point is, she has to make difficult decisions to ensure her job safety. In an ideal world, people like Caitlin would quit Funimation in protest and she, Vic and a few other disgruntled former employees would form their own dubbing company, but the reality is, she’s stuck between a rock and a hard place, between marriage and work.

How you can consider that cowardice or "enabling this culture" is beyond me.

Ace Attorney. Eat those delicious "hamburgers" at this "small table" in "New York", Japan.
Ace attorney is such a fucking trip. They make it in America but everything about the game screams Japan. From the design of the courtroom to the way characters talk about the situation at hand. The Japanese fatalism still comes through.

Sorry to break it to you, but I checked, and that's pretty much the actual script.
The character is talking about being "uke" rather than "seme", which means exactly that.

It's a little more scandalous, even. It's referring to yaoi fangirl stereotypes. Seme is the big strong manly man who's dominant usually to the point of sadism, while uke is effeminate softboi who does all the socially accepted female things, like being physically unable to give a straight answer about consent and crying during sex. He's also submissive to the point of masochism, generally.

Basically, 'top or bottom' tames down the implication a good fair bit, rather than gaying it up more like the original comment seemed to suggest the dub was doing.

I'm not gonna argue about the implications, I only checked that very specific bit of the show.
My very superficial reading of that single episode (I had to search that specific line), is that the gay thing is a mere joke between the protagonists.
To me, it felt a bit like the relationship between JD and Turk from Scrubs, who casually joke about being a couple from time to time.
EDIT: Or like talking about Vic's pants...

I find it pretty funny that Aniplex will immediately be under fire for shit these new coworkers have caused. I wonder if we'll get to see any of the internal drama spill out.

Nick claims that Funimation has been firing people already. Aniplex and Sony seem intent that whatever gangrenous and diseased parts get cut off before moving forward.

I imagine that some internal drama will spill out. Rooster Teeth had some animators become sources for Clownfish and Hero Hei. All the dangerhairs that infested those places, there has to be a Sina Grace or Carlos Maza fucker in the mix.

Really? When did Nick say that? Just curious.
