I think we're missing a big part of the discussion of female-aimed games - male on male visual novels and dating Sims. They're massive (and seem super fucking samey) but the interactive platform / visual novel method of delivery has so much potential that it's sad it is often associated with "sinful gay babies" of whatever shit they call it.
I got into VNs when I found this gorgeously illustrated one for At The Mountains Of Madness by HP Lovecraft and promptly ignored it after everything else reccommended was dating fuckery.
A couple I remember from history:
