"Girly" Video Games

The Style Savvy/Style Boutique/Girls Mode series. I got into it as a kid but damn do I still pick up Styling Star from time to time. That and it has some serious bops. It has to be pretty solid if the Japanese version of "Ring! Dong! Dang!" made it's way in the Smash soundtrack. Play it for some wholesome goodies.

Is Bejeweled really a "girly" game? It has a pretty simple set of mechanics and a very arcadey-feel to it. Candy Crush is kind of the same thing but I never played that one; its artstyle is definitely a lot more pastel though.

Am I supposed to feel bad about myself that I enjoy happy, nurturing, sharing/caring type games instead of aggressive, violent, domination-based games?

I don't understand why the twain can never meet. Have you never noticed that the best kisses are always shared in front of a mushroom cloud? And your stable of Extreme Combat Pets will never be more effective than when you've showered them with love and affection?

It's a "dumb puzzle game". Also, I think it's generally mobile based now.
Almost anything mobile is "for girls" -- cause girls are dumb and only play games on their phones but call themselves gamers.

I played Candy Crush once, a friend was stuck on a level and let me try. I beat it in one or two goes. At the time I was playing another matching game a lot.

It might as well boil down to: if you're not a man, there's no guns, and there's no half naked girls, then it's a girl game.

In Plague Inc. you can more or less conquer the world with a worm that screws with people's brain chemistry to make being parasitized feel like cuddles and love.

Secret of the Magic crystal is all you'll ever need in life. (Dont judge me until you've played it nerd.)

I think we're missing a big part of the discussion of female-aimed games - male on male visual novels and dating Sims. They're massive (and seem super fucking samey) but the interactive platform / visual novel method of delivery has so much potential that it's sad it is often associated with "sinful gay babies" of whatever shit they call it.

I got into VNs when I found this gorgeously illustrated one for At The Mountains Of Madness by HP Lovecraft and promptly ignored it after everything else reccommended was dating fuckery.

A couple I remember from history:

Starfighter - this is a link to the the Kickstarter. It got funded.

Dramatical murder - gay space drama club? Idk.

There are others but yeah - what's the opinions on this stuff?
I know this post is from 2017 but I want to take this opportunity to shill Hashihime of the old book town for anyone even vaguely interested in homo visual novels. Dramatical murder is known as the meme homo game where you fuck the dog and get eaten alive and all that stuff, but I think Hashihime is a game that tells a genuinely good story alongside having the homo elements. The only downside is that it peaks in the first two routes and afterwards it does degrade in quality, but in my opinion those routes are good enough to make up for it and they're the longest anyway.

As a sidenote, for anyone interested in otome games I'd recommend Fashioning little miss lonesome. I tend to prefer BL over Otome and don't always have the strongest attention span so I haven't finished it yet, but from what I played of the blonde guy's route I appreciate how the tone is more humorous and the protagonist isn't just some dainty perfect angel like in some otome games. She's a socially awkward mess who would preferably eat pizza every day, and the love interests aren't perfect charming princes either. One is a masochistic dweeb and the other a sadistic snarky guy whose attitude is understandable when you remember he now has two human disasters to babysit.

I doubt we'll get a new Girl's Mode AKA Style Savvy game now that the 3DS is pretty much dead, but we did get a new mainline Cooking Mama for switch so who knows.

I don't know how many hours I put into that game but genuinely - I used to play at least 5 hours everyday for a good two months constantly. I had to stop bringing my DS to work because the itch was too much to resist on tea breaks.

Who would have thought such a simple fashion mechanic and setup would be so addictive?

But I'm currently enjoying Helix Waltz on my phone and that's a bit like Love Nikki but better imo since it has a good story that's fairly intriguing. I think the art style and clothes are better than Love Nikki too.

I'm going to shill Kitten Adventures in City Park, how often do you get to play as a kitten in a city park? Not very often! The art style of the game is really cute too.

I haven't played in a while but I was really liking Monster Hunter. Another game I also recommend is Ark: Survival Evolved. When I used to play, I enjoyed hoarding and collecting high level dinosaurs, and trying to get certain color schemes. Big bonus if you play online cause raiding peoples bases is fun.

what the fuck
It's actually an oversimplification and what really happens is even more stupid. You don't really fuck the dog but the dog fucks you. The dog is one of your split personalities that now inhabits the body of your talking pet robot dog. He fucks you in your combined imaginary dreamspace and in the bad ending he eats you. In the good ending he starts inhabiting the body of the twin brother you never knew you had because the two of you were separated as babies. You still fuck even if he's in the body of your twin brother.

I love chill games like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon, partly becasue I very often play videogames before going to bed and I like something mellow to wind me down for the night. And I love animals and gardening.

Does anyone remember Diva Starz? I recall that being a thing for like, a year. There was a game called Diva Starz: Mall Mania that I still own and on some rare occasions, still bust out and play.
You'll want to turn your sound down, the music is downright cancerous by modern standards.

You brought back some memories... I have a friend that really *really* loves yaoi. I poke fun at her for it, but she's not obnoxious about it like you see on tumblr and other threads on KF. She generally won't bring it up unless it's relevant to the topic.

For some reason, years ago she went on a yaoi game bender and wouldn't shut up about them, especially this damn game. She kept going on and on how this game was a great game, that even people who don't like yaoi would like it. She said "THEY ARE MAKING AN ANIME ABOUT IT!!" so it wasn't just mindless sex! She told me to try it and kept saying how much she loved it and how she KNEW I would love it too! I eventually gave in and tried it.

No offense to people who like this stuff, but what the actual hell. That game had a lot of weird shit in it. Stuff I can't understand why people would find it sexy. I remember there's this one character that like, can't feel any pain or something. So in order for him to feel any pleasure from sexual things, you have to literally bite his dick. Not sensually nibble on it, actually biting and gnawing on it as if it were food you're trying to eat.

Also, I didn't finish the game but from what I remember, every character essentially raped the main character, yet it was framed as being romantic if you were going for a good route. Yeah, let's just forgive and forget this guy raped you, he really didn't mean it! Ugh. It was just bad all around for me. Definitely not my cup of tea.

What really blows my mind is how that game is tame compared to other popular yaoi themed games. I played two others that were way worse, yet my friend wouldn't stop swearing up and down to me how awesome they were, and how if I skipped the sex scenes, I would like it because the storylines were "so great". They weren't great, by the way...not by a long shot.

Needless to say, I don't play games recommended from my yaoi loving friend anymore, especially if it has gay characters in it.

Honestly, any RPG that has a lot of armor and clothing options can be fun for dressing up your character. Half of the fun with Monster Hunter was making my character look great while killing dinosaurs.

i totally stopped my game progression in generations ultimate to get the bnahabra set. it's garbage, but it's pretty

i haven't seen the old tamagotchi DS games mentioned here yet.
you ran different businesses while upgrading your town and decorating your tamagotchi's room

Tbh, it's true that pretty much every BL game out there with an english fanpatch or official localisation has dark stuff in it. I guess female oriented media can naturally be really dark for the same reason why a lot of women are into true crime. Even though Hashihime is my favourite there's still dark content in it (Rape, murder, suicide, whatever clusterfuck that final route is), hence why I would only recommend it to people who are already fujo-aligned and can handle that stuff. Dramatical murder was a lot of people's first BL game but in hindsight it's really embarrassing and just not that good.

As a time killer, I'll admit I'm a sucker for "girly" games like bejeweled or Neko Atsume... and anything with character customization really. Except for the Sims 3, that one isn't for killing time, I would play that game for the rest of my god damn life if I could.
