If they sued they'd be open to discovery. The same reason they didn't file police reports and haven't yet, they'd be open to investigation. Even post statute of limitations, I think they could file a police report to smear Vic with impunity but they might just investigate.
My earlier thoughts may be over-developed for the evidence at hand, but they clearly have been dodging discovery for all of this.
