My take is that a person in his position should be so invested in his politics that "thinking the right way" should be the first factor used to screen in or out personal relationships, yet he maintains a liberal girlfriend/beard and claims he doesn't need his partner to be political

He was basically aruging that a nation-state is (or ought to be) defined and united by racial indentity, while castigating the "traditional right" as "race traitors" for rejecting the identity politics espoused by the modern left. He's got a big beef with classical liberalism, and made that clear right of the gate.

If he was smart he would've said something along the lines of: 'The same definition of' white' the Left uses to lump us all together and demonize us with. Everyone knows what 'white' means, so why do you even ask?' But that would've required him to have some critical thought and not engage in the batshit quest of trying to strictly define a' white race' that all white Nationalist advocates have fallen for. I'd have some respect for them if they just said: 'the genetics aren't as relevant as the fact that we're viewed as a monolithic group irregardless, so we might as well start acting as one since everyone else already has in this idpol society and we're getting short-changed.'
