Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Oh boy I can't stop following this exceptionalism. Here are some juicy updates. Japan has also joined full force.

There is this shit going on in Japan, Japanese hatred for South Koreans is at an all time high. Apparently Game Freak seemed to cover up that this gym leader was a Taekwondoe Master instead of a Karate Master. I don't have much understanding of the cultural significance of this outside of the Japanese hating all other Asians historically, most infamously the Koreans and Chinese.

they should have some exposition where we find out her grandma was a day care lady who was defeated very badly by a group of imperial kanto trainers

Everyday I think about it that reddit "leak" makes more and more sense, I know it's "MY DAD WORKS AT NINTENDO TIER" aside from the bunny hop shit but the importer fucking up makes alot of this games rough spot make sense, especially if it was early in development it happened.
If it fucked up they would probably have to spend a couple months at least fixing that, making everything else delayed for the time being focusing on the issue at hand.
Might be why certain things are off, (The designs looking like they needed one or two more iterations to really nail their concepts, The music sounds like it's going through multiple different styles, the half baked story, the overall short playtime and concepts like the wild area feeling half baked at best). Everything looking at this screams development issues to me and whether out of pride or fear of not selling well they kinda trying to pass stuff like the dex as a design decision to save face and to drum up the reveal for the next game after gen 8, we all know how that turned out though.
I'm starting to put stock into that "broken importer" myself, especially when you remember they went through the trouble of making walking/running animations for all 800+ mons years ago back in SM, had them in LG, only to just, not have the following feature at all in SWSH? Makes no sense to do all that work for nothing.

And at first it seems ridiculous because the obvious question of "Why didn't they just say they had technical difficulties and can't have all mons in the game but will have them ready by the next one?" comes up, but there's a crucial element about the Japanese that comes into play here. Pride. It's so strongly instilled over there that they really would lie and repeatedly deny any hope of Dexit lifting and tarnishing their reputation just for the sake of their own egos instead of simply eating a slice of humble pie and saying "We fucked up."

Ouch. Well, the second I saw the dude I knew he was the bad guy so... That they had sports incorporated at all in a pokemon game couldn't be further than their target demographic.

yeah in galar pokemon is basicly like a national sport, its weird since it feels like such a surface level take on what Britain is like compared to unova or even kalos it's laughable

Yeah I talked to a dev friend of mine he's kinda putting stock in the theory now as well, especially since masuda said something along the lines of "we will see how the reaction to the games are" after months of saying it's how it will be from now on.
In a way they were thinking long term not realizing the short term PR hit they would take, kinda fascinating.
What solidified this for me was once the game started leaking, masuda and co kinda just locked themselves away from interviews aside from the pokemon site, canceling the launch event, like they knew data mining was only a matter of time.

While the "dexit" issue was the issue that really caused many Pokemon fans to turn on the series, the Pokemon fanbase already had a term for Pokemon fans who had gotten burnt out on the series: "genwunner". The term was a strawman for that guy who at some point for whatever reason got burnt out on buying the newest Pokemon games and simply lost interest.
The history of the term "genwunner" is an interesting one.

It started around 2011/2012, with the release of the Gen 5 games Black and White. For some reason certain fans got the biggest, fattest bug up their ass over some of the crummier Gen 5 Pokemon designs. The Vanillite line and Trubbish line in particular became the focus of these fans, and the existence of Pokemon based on ice cream and trash bags was the "proof" Pokemon was over and everything post-Gen 1 sucked ass. That "there are only 151 Pokemon" line from the UrbanDictionary definition is not an exaggeration; people were actually saying that. I distinctly remember one post going around that said "Back in the day Pokemon were based on snakes, dragons, dinosaurs, and turtles. Now Pokemon are based on ice cream, gears, and garbage. I feel bad for kids these days!"
The irony behind this was Gen 5 also has snake Pokemon, dragon Pokemon, dinosaur Pokemon, and turtle Pokemon. And Gen 1 had some crummy Pokemon designs of its own. People were getting sick of these Charizard fanboys running around shitting on anything post-Gen 1, and so the term "genwunner" was created (or co-opted from the Transformers fandom, the details are hazy on that) to describe these types of fans. Their criticisms had little to do with gameplay, they were just pissed off because NEW POKEMON BAD BECAUSE ICE CREAM AND NOT BLASTOISE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Around the release of Gen 6 games X and Y, however, the definition of "genwunner" started to shift and spiral out of control. It no longer defined a very specific type of obnoxious fan, it was now being used to describe anyone who said anything critical of newer Pokemon games. Do you prefer the pixel graphics of earlier games, but can still appreciate the efforts that went into making XY 3D? Fucking genwunner, go back to your Charizard! Do you think XY are kinda shallow? Stupid genwunner, don't forgot your favorite gen has a literal pile of goo that just evolves into a bigger pile of goo! It got so bad you could be called a genwunner for saying bad things about even Gen 1 Pokemon.

The term seems to be losing steam and usage, and now outside of YouTube comment sections I've only really seen it being used by people to describe themselves in a joking kind of way.

Why is it the games based on European regions and the UK have the weakest villains/story?

So I take it the indie pop scene that Team Yell apparently's supposed to be based off of never reached its full potential, the history is super lame, and there's no bagpipes in the soundtrack.

I bet there's no Sherlock Holmes reference, either. Game Freak couldn't even get the basics right, all they thought about was soccer when that should've most likely been saved for the South American region. Fucking hell.

Least they didn't bring back Defog, although that's too bloody hilarious for them to have done.

Unironiclly Kalos had a good idea with the whole pokemon war shit but it never really went anywhere, Galar doesn't really do anything unique with the whole "Dynamax powers Galar" thing because its such a massive time away from now that running out doesn't matter, especially not dire enough to summon Pokemon Cthulhu just so your Sports ball of dog fighting could still get a lame ass gimmick that is the baby's version of the other reigon's
Galar doesn't really have a good idea to play off of imo

Problem with this theory is Sword and Shield is based on Let's Go engine so...... they already imported the models from the 3DS to Let's Go. Also the 3DS models are also used on all the mobiles games, this one doesn't make a lot of sense. I find it really hard to believe that something as simple as a broken importer. The entire region looks completely unfinished and I can't believe the entire staff was held up by a problem like this as often things are put together in tandem (story, areas, postgame, etc.) I would say something obviously did happen developing this game though, it's more likely looking at it that it was originally designed for the 3DS then ported into the Let's Go engine creating this Frankenstein's monster of a game. We also can't forget that the leadership as far as Pokemon goes is really out of touch with what people want for years.

Geewunner doesn't just apply to Pokemon FYI, it also applies to Transformer fans, Bronies, and a bunch of other shit.

It lost usage because Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee shut them up. When the first switch Pokémon game screenshot leaked, the one of the lapras, the amount of legit “muh gen 1” was huge. There were a lot of bitch fights between them and people who wanted new Pokémon. Then the games were revealed and they got their “pure 151 gen 1” HD remake. Mission accomplished. Now there are hardly any legit targets for the phrase.

Another stream observation that stands out to me as particularly lazy that I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere yet: a large chunk of the evolved mon forms seem to spawn in the wild area. Sure the other gens have a handful of catchable evolved, but they’re at least reserved for high-level/unique dungeons. It seems to defeat the point/fun of evolution entirely to catch an oddish at like lv5 and stick it in a reserve slot to leech off exp share only for the game to give you an infinite, easily accessible source of lv30 glooms 2 hours later when the oddish is mid-20s. GF really pulled out the stops to remove as many extraneous mons as possible.

Oh, and to note: it’s super funny to watch someone go through the stages of grief realizing the ‘very powerful’ wild area mons are always one level higher than your catch levelcap. I bet we’re going to see some simple mods for this game that make it a lot more interesting before long.

Also, I’m a bit confused about the screwed up importer theory. Unless they did something colossally stupid like deleting the source files and not having a backup (or not noticing the screwed up models for months after the import) the solution should just be fixing the importer and rerunning it to import the models correctly. Aside from maybe bringing on a couple extra tools programmers I can’t see how this would require the amount of extra manpower they’ve claimed.

They removed GTS so allowing people to just catch Pokemon like Steelix is a way to say "You don't need to trade with people, just catch one" as an excuse.

The more you look at this situation the more it devolves into a Mobius Strip of fuckery. But I'll try to break it down.

It could possibly be a combination of the two. Everything started on the 3DS as they had no faith for the Switch (which, after the Wii U I can't exactly blame them), but then they got word that there would be no more dedicated handhelds after the 3DS so they had an "Oh shit!" moment and hastily threw everything into an HD realm last minute, which is just asking for something to go wrong for a company that hasn't touched that kind of tech up until now. As for LG, the coding for all mons are in it, but not the actual models themselves, so there was still porting to do.

However that brings into question why not all the Kanto mons made it (less than half actually) if they were all ready to go due to LG. It could be they didn't want to be accused of favoritism but then there's still all the Kanto whoring anyway so, who knows.

The other other potential factor is that, after it became clear the full dex wasn't going to happen for whatever reason, TPC got the idea to use popular mons as extra "incentive" for people to use the Home service, which would explain the random Kanto cuts and why so many generally popular mons were snapped period, because then that would get more people to pay up for Home instead of if only the Lumineons and Wormadams of the world were cut.

Yet this also flies in the face of the broken porter theory because that makes it sound like the cuts were planned all along, whereas the porter break implies they effectively played it by ear all the way. And there's always the outcome where for the next game they pull their own "Everyone is here!" to try and get back in the fanbase's good graces, and that in itself has questions as to if that was the plan all along and they just didn't think repeatedly saying "Dexit is forever now" would have repercussions (which is doubtful considering how they've been hiding away ever since the leaks happened) or as a response to the current backlash.

It's like, even attempting to wrap one's head around this clusterfuck gives you an instant headache. I know I got one just typing this mess out.

EDIT: I just came across this. Oh boy.

To be completely honest I wouldn't be surprised if all the Pokemon were originally in the game and then they cut most of them out in the last year. That would actually explain a lot about the game too, it actually wouldn't be too different from the past few gens. All the most popular Pokemon getting the axe, and a lot of really unpopular Pokemon made it in. That can't be a coincidence at this point either.

There are people out there who bought both versions of the game and think any problems with it can just be patched out or they would be willing to buy DLC to fix the game or Mobage currency to perform specific quality of life actions.

If they added MTX after this initial shitshow I think some autists will actually riot in the streets lmao.

I always chalked up the Pokemon cuts to some plan to market and push Pokemon Home, especially after seeing how extensive the cuts were and how many incredibly popular Pokemon didn't make it into SwSh.

Create a subscription service where players can store and play with their Pokemon.
Only allow certain Pokemon to be transferred out to new games, don't allow any Pokemon to be transferred out to old games.
Don't tell anyone which Pokemon can and can't be transferred.
Profit off fans who now are stuck paying the subscription fee so their beloved data and pixels that can't go to SwSh don't get baleeted forever.

apparently the game has a save deleting bug

How did they fuck up autosaving of all things?
addition: scratch that it deletes ALL SAVES on console
