Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

I think you're gonna just have to admit that a soldier of fortune bounty hunter clad in space armor with space guns who plays by his own rules and has his own ship is inherently cool to children and kidaults. He doesn't have to be a good character or deep. It's just a fun concept, like most of "good" starwars.
Well see I agree with you 100%. And I was saying roughly the same thing but having some fun with the way I said it. I really do believe Jar Jar is a better and more substantial character than Boba Fett. But obviously Boba Fett is cooler. Plenty of what people like and praise in the original trilogy was shallow but fun and cool. Likewise, plenty of what people hate in the prequels actually had substance that outmatches the originals. My broad point based on the post I originally replied to, is that I think there's lots of hypocrisy and irrationality in the way people approach the prequels and I greatly disagree with the blind overwhelming negativity they receive.

Been thinking about "the kiss" at the end, and how Ben gives his life for Rey. And it comes to me that this is so utterly and completely inane. Its as if space aliens who have studied heterosexual human pair bonding from a safe distance got together and tried to figure out how to use it for emotional weight. Cuz you know, that is a thing that happens in art. The man dies for the woman. And its all super dramatic and stuff. Cuz love and stuff.

Setting aside the biologically deterministic reasoning that Men are expendable and Women are not in furthering the species, there has been absolutely no set up in the last two films to indicate Rey and Ben ever had any sort of romantic connection. Even their force skyping with the weird sexual tension was revealed to have been pushed by Snoke all along and not anything natural on their end. And much like this kiss scene it came across as something dreamed up by Space Aliens studying male/female relations.

Its just so fucking obvious what has happened here. The writers painted themselves into a corner. In order for Rey to transcend to her ultimate form as the greatest Mary Sue in pop culture history, and take on the Skywalker name/legacy, Ben Solo has to die. But how is he to die? Can he die in battle helping Rey? Maybe deflect the Force lighting with his body like Vader did? Nah. That would imply Rey is just like Luke and needed help. Can't have that. Should he just die like a bitch by falling down a hole? Sure said the writers. Lets go with that. But then someone said, wait, didn't we set up Kylo Ren as super important to everything? We can't just kill him like a bitch too. We already did that with Snoke and it Focus tested badly.

And so we get true loves first kiss to save the day at the end. Where Ben Solo does absolutely fuck all except to heal Rey after she heroically killed the Emperor single handed. Then conveniently dies so she can take his name, his moms lightsabre, and his uncles house.
So Ma-Ray Sue is a scavenger to the bitter end. She doesn't build, just takes.
I'm glad that Kylo Ren is dead, yet at the same time I feel sorry for the Ben Solo name, In a proper story, Ben should be joyriding on the Millenium Falcon, not joining the dark side.
He was already pathetic in digging up Darth Vader's remains but when he killed Han (and even tried to murder his mother), he crossed the line.

Also if their "relationship" was so great, why not take the Solo name instead of Skywalker?

I love that the Mandalorian proves people want more star wars, they just dont want the movies Disney is shilling

Turns out a fun adventure action series that doesn't try to be more than that is enjoyable, who'd have guessed.

If they make more non-jedi movies that'd be a huge improvement. Just do one off shit like Solo and Rogue One. People love the universe they dont need the same 2 character arcs over and over.

Yeah. As a concept, the Chancellor becoming a Sith Emperor and why that might even be justified along with the abolition of the Jedi is a much better story than 'evil man blow up planet, gotta stop him.' Of course none of that was really explored well. Also clone army concept is fun/cool and the prequels made the Jedi seem kinda queer.

I wish he had stuck with the original idea of the Clone Wars, where clone Jedi are made and then they go nuts.*sigh*

Well its time for a Consoomer field report on battlefront 2

they had a free update adding The sith trooper, they fly now troopers, and 2 aliums as playable classes. New costumes for rei, kylo etc. Apparently a new map from the new movie, but i havent gotten it.

sith troopers and they can fly nows actually play really fun. Didnt play as any of the aliens because they look gay. Sith plays a rushdown play style and they can fly now is just a straight upgrade on normal jetbacked units. Game seems pretty filled up, easy to get games.

But can they fly now? This seems super important because it keeps getting repeated.

In my opinion Lucas painted the Jedi as villains in the prequels and very purposely. The Jedi were close minded and dogmatic, shut off from society, shut off from emotion, basically abducted children into their order. Their code of conduct and their repressive heavy handed treatment of their members is exactly what turned Anakin into Vader. Their prophecy was a self fulfilling one, and they fulfilled it. I'm just not sure it was communicated effectively. The prequels are flush with very strong concepts like that that weren't executed well. That's how I've always seen them. They may be rough around the edges but they were still very well made. I hope seeing just how bad Star Wars can really be courtesy of Disney will get more people to revisit and reevaluate the prequels more fairly.

It feels like the worse Disney has gotten at handling the franchise the more EA SEEMS to be be turning things around (at least in regards to how it handles the Star Wars liscense. Battlefront 2 has gradually worked it’s way up from complete disaster to a game that although not as good as og BF2 is a pretty fun multiplayer shooter on its own right. Jedi Fallen Order wasn’t KOTOR or Jedi Academy tier but it was still a pretty solid title.

Oh, I've thought about it plenty. Boba Fett is a shallow nothing character. Your personal interpretations of the character's mindset and motives and what was scripted doesn't trump what was actually filmed and included in the movie. I pretty purposely avoided the Jar Jar Binks being a secret Sith Lord stuff in my list for that very reason. Everything I said is factual and readily apparant in the films. It's ok the admit the original trilogy has glaring flaws and poor characters.
You are seriously verging on lolcow territory. I mean, I can understand not really being interested in Boba Fett as character, the same as someone might not be particularly interested by, say, Chewbacca or Grand Moff Tarkin, but for whatever reason, Fett seems to have this strange power to drive certain people into a frothing, incoherent rage over the mere fact that he exists and some people like him.

People can disagree with me. I'd rather be able to think for myself than follow a crowd blindly. His toys selling well doesn't change the reality of the character. Even Mon Mothma is cooler than Boba Fett. She's a frumpy old woman who stands around in a robe talking, but that's still more substantial than anything Boba Fett did.
This is a great example of what I'm talking about, because it's a straightforward and flat-out denial of fact. There's nothing wrong with Mon Mothma as a character (although her lack of a proper introduction in the film certainly confused me when I first saw ROTJ as a child), but her role in the film could have been handled by Leia or Ackbar or Madine without really changing anything. By contrast, Fett's role in ESB is written particularly for him. He's an outside specialist, brought in specifically to address a problem that no one else within Vader's command, including the Dark Lord himself, has been able to resolve. That is the reality of the character, deny it all you want.

That's fine, bud. You can think Boba Fett is cool. I like Boba Fett and his headless father too. I'm just having some fun with you.
So lets hear you crack wise about Luke Skywalker and his dickless dad. 😉

Exactly. Hell, right at this moment, the only SW-related thing in the Mouse Empire that's getting any sincere praise is a self-conscious Donut Steel (albeit a very well-written one) of Boba Fett.

I mostly agree, except for the self-fulfilling prophecy part. I think Lucas made it pretty clear that the Chosen One bringing Balance to the Force (by eradicating the Sith) was not just something that the Jedi cooked up to suit their own purposes.

100 pages in 2 days. Reviewers shitting on the film. I'm drowning in these awful leaks. I wasn't ready for this. See you on the other side.

That's the actual soundtrack? It's just the fucking Star Wars theme??? Remember in RotJ when the rebels lightspeeded next to the Death Star? The Empire's theme played because there was actually supposed to be some tension, but it wasn't just the theme, it was a special battle-fanfare version of the theme because this franchise wasn't a corpse going through the motions yet.

The fact that everytime they show lightsabers with unsold merch is fascinating.
There are always knock off versions at dollar stores and the like, it's a rather enduring product.
It shows that parents/kids aren't interested in the name Star Wars for toys-

The Sequel Trilogy doesn't really seem to care about having cool characters and designs meshing with the story which are things you base toys off of.
Rey doesn't have decent characterization despite being the 'Face' of the trilogy, Finn is comedic relief, and Poe is 'Guy who is there'
The designs tend to be bland and uninspired:
The FO TIE fighters are just black, white and red TIE fighters, except for the dorito-winged variant which is just a down syndrome cousin of the interceptor.
The planets don't stand out - I still cannot remember if the planet where Rey finds Anakin's lightsaber is the same one where she meets with the resistance.

In the prequels it sets up a fight between faceless clones and robots, not that engaging from a narrative perspective so they do something really interesting with the planets they are both being produced from. Kamino which has cities on stilts overlooking the oceans. The main colors in its set designs are dark blue and white, the look of the facilities where the clones are made is sterile. This is contrasted with Geonosis, where the robots are manufactured. Geonosis is a rocky desert planet, with a lot of bland orange and brown coloring. The manufacturing plants are dusty and industrial looking.

In blockbusters everyone wants to see cool people doing cool things. Very basic concept.
You can complain about the Transformers movies and Marvel movies and their various components, but as long as those movies deliver on those two fronts, they will draw a profit through ticket sales or merchandising.

/neutered rant

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

This trilogy basically amounted to JJ and Rian having a slap fight. They actively tried to passive aggressively show contempt for one another by destroying each other's ideas, and the movies feel like my brain is being ping pong'd across the room back and forth as a result.

Was looking through star wars stuff on a very popular second hand site(mandarake) for japanese toys because boy do I like stormtroopers.
And what do I find but this. The second hand market can get pretty competitive and is a decent indicator of popularity when its a non-special edition figure.

This is the brand new rei figure that came out last month. Not only is it actually readily in stock, But it has taken a $15~ drop off in price. This is almost unheard of for something like this. especially with something like marvel or star wars.

For referance here is the fucking sith trooper I was looking at

The new kylo

and a reissue of a luke figure thats pretty old at this point.

For the record, how many agree that the problem wasn't inherently the idea of a female protagonist for the sequel trilogy, it was just done poorly?

For a third trilogy a female protagonist was a good idea just to differentiate it from the prior two trilogies if nothing else, the trouble is they forgot to make Rey an actual character.

So I'm going to see Rise of Skywalker early Friday morning. Would you guys recommend rewatching TFA and TLJ before I go see it or is it not even worth it?

I suggest you buy a ticket to better film and sneak in to see it, also i don't really care if you watch the last films, but if you want to understand how incoherent these movies are as a trilogy then go ahead.

I'm rewatching everything for when I go on sat.

A protagonist can be anyone as long as they are tolerable and at least somewhat interesting.

The weird obsessions in some fans regarding Boba Fett is easy to understand once you look into the history of the character. In George Lucas's eyes, Fett was just a throwaway character. He was kind of cool looking, but just one of the Bounty Hunters. But Kenner needed a character to use for the secret proof of purchase mail in offer on the action figures. So Lucas gave them Fett. And that's where things went wrong and a fandom was born. See back in 1978 we had Star Wars. It wasn't a Trilogy. It wasn't an IP. It was one single movie. And now it was gone, out of theaters, and it would be years before it would come to TV. Outside the horrid Holiday Special there was no more of this wonderful narcotic called Star Wars. Except the toys. And the toys were wonderful. And then we sent away for the secret action figure. He was a Bounty Hunter... from the NEW MOVIE! Getting Boba Fett in hand was the very first indication we had that there would or even could be more. He was so cool. He had a jetpack and a missile and really cool armor! And the stories we made up in our heads about how cool this character was going to be were like another whole movie unto themselves. To George Lucas Boba Fett was just an unimportant background character. But to those 11 year olds in 1978 he was the first tangible contact we had with the broader Star Wars Universe. So he became very very important to those kids. And some people never got over their Head Cannon. (Whereas some, like Jon Favereau and Dave Filoni clearly treasured their Boba Fett head cannon stories, evolved them, crafted them, and finally turned them into the Mandalorian. Well done guys!) And those conflicting Fett related Head Cannons led to pure concentrated fanboytism and fagotry wars. To the point where those not so mentally invested in the character hate whenever the speds bring him up.
