Rick & Morty hijacking this movie honestly did it a favor overall in exposure. Not sure if this is a popular opinion or not, but prior to this Zardoz was strictly YTMND-tier meme fodder.

I do like that the comics have been finally building up Kylo and Snoke's relationship to explain who the fuck he is, and then this movie comes and reveals he's one of many clones used by Palpatine to influence Kylo. So when Leia says Snoke has been manipulating Kylo his entire life, she actually means that Papa Palps has been manipulating a clone to manipulate Kylo. I'm still not sure why, actually, considering his real goal seems to be Rey.

So my area is big on "geek" stuff yeah? To the point where people can take days off for conventions and it's not an unacceptable thing, companies buy out showings of popular movies as 'thank yous' to their employees, cosplay is a big thing too etc.
Basically should be a prime market for this shit, right?

Well there's a theater chain here that is known for getting the exclusives, doing big parties for releases, also considered a luxury deal because you can order full fucking meals and have them brought to you while you eat. Usually they're the first to sell out because it's an experience there.

They also use this theater for PR type deals and they have people from the company in question come to the theater and pull people aside to ask questions and get feedback and such. Legendary is almost always there when their movies come out.

Anyway......all their showings for tonight have openings. All of them.
And no private showings scheduled.
Checked around at the other theaters and only two of them in the span of five counties have private showings happening. Total of 5 private showings for the entire weekend. Usually you'd expect 20-30 for one weekend across that area, sometimes hitting that number in one night.

What. A. Shitshow.

You know, as much as I'm enjoying this movie's failure I'm fucking saddened by what Disney has done to a franchise that endured for 30 fucking years before the prequels. And not only did it survive Lucas "ruining" the franchise the first time, it continued on as strong as ever with good games and series and a fandom that, while prone to disagreement, still got along amicably enough.

But then Disney bought it and everything has been falling apart ever since. The fandom has splintered and all the various factions hate each other, the games have gone to crap because Disney knows jack fucking shit about the game industry and gave the licence to EA (and pretty much exclusively EA for quite awhile) and we got 2 crap Battlefront games in 8 years. Not to mention Rebels and the other animated Disney tripe.

This legitimately might be the end of Star Wars as what it once was, what it had been for nearly 40 fucking years. I just can't see hiw it can recover without decanonizing everything Disney has done and starting again fresh.

And now I'm depressed as fuck and need sad music. This seems appropriate.

I kind of feel depressed too because I know that another franchise got the same treatment (Star Trek) and in both cases it's irreversible.
