I'll come and post the name if I can find someone who remembers it, but about a year ago Lowtax made some tweets or FB posts basically admitting to being a whale for some booster pack online card game like Hearthstone. I don't think it was Hearthstone specifically, but I might be wrong. Someone was citing those posts as evidence that the revenue from the forums was still more than enough to keep Lowtax supplied with disposable income that he's compelled to fling away from himself as fast as possible.

The fact that his medical problems and the empathy of gullible goons are what led him to start his patreon is pretty funny/despicable. I wonder what he'll pull when the adult children finally check their bank accounts and back out of the Patreon after realizing they're basically giving him money for nothing at this point.

I'm hurt and offended that the owner of the site would use such bigoted language. I fully expect his admin team to hold him accountable to the same rules that his site's users are, and hand him a one month probation.

The mods don't care about irony or nuance so it wouldn't matter. If anything they'd probably be punished even more for pointing out the double standard.

I’d remove the paywall on everything entirely and create a Patreon to keep the site running. Every month money is drawn from it to keep the lights on, if the money runs out so does SA. Remove all mods and admins and have 1-3 people whose job it is to literally remove illegal content and nothing else. And then we’d just see what happens.

Edit: oh right and I’d also clear the permaban list

I'd go the other direction - monetize the fuck out of it as much as possible. Make a whole ranking system based on how much you've donated over time, and a subsystem based on your monthly or yearly donations, whichever one sticks. Try to cultivate a culture of monetizing these things. Donate like 0.00001% of the proceeds to The Trevor Project so I can say your money's partially going to tranny charity, and write as much of it off my taxes as possible.

I'd also silently get a lot more lax on banning, treating it more like Reddit, maybe coming off weak and mealy-mouth like Spez & co., but it'd be all in the name of extracting as much money from the forums as possible, before they finally collapse.

Something Awful is an addictive forum full of the worst people online, and anyone who can should extract as much money from them as possible.

How do you figure? It's merely the mod's job to personally enforce their own political beliefs, something they've already been doing with zeal and gusto. ~*WRONGTHINK DETECTED, DEPLOYING BAN*~ has been the default mod M.O. for what, 5 years now?

Assuming he keeps custody of his kids, he will definitely use them for begging if the medical stuff doesn't cut it anymore. He's put his youngest kid on stream before to milk donations, and it worked. All he has to do is make a whacky joke about how his kids are LITERALLY STARVING TO DEATH BECAUSE ASHLI TOOK ALL MY MONEY!!!!! and boom, Patreon goes back up. This nigga probably has a roadmap of things he can beg for mapped out for the next few years.

No way he can plan that far in advance. He's like your neighbor's old, half-blind dog that can barely smell. You toss a treat in the yard for him and after a lot of effort searching to find it he gets all excited like a puppy when he does. Except in this case the dog is a drunk asshole that bites everyone and the only people throwing him treats are the neighborhood special ed kids.

If I recall the current situation

-The youngest kid with Chinkwife doesn't like going over to his house at all

-He kicked out eldest chinkwife kid for finding out he was chasing pussy on facebook and maturely confronting him about it

-MapleWife Kid is in hiding with mommy

So I would say it's another christmas with booze 'n' pills (and maybe a $50 pie)
