Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Just wanted to ask why the hell are people going all "Only nerds care about continuity and consistency and rules in a movie about space wizards" all of a sudden? These people don't realise they are saying it's okay to break the rules of previous continuity and invent shit on the fly and to not call it out. This is referring to of course the force healing ability in TROS that wasn't established in any of the other movies.

It's to own those Toxic sexist manbabies, who care about lore and realistic storytelling obviously.

Personally I would have just bit the bullet and made Kylo full on evil. Not this waffling emo bad boy stuff.

Unlike Anakin who embraced the dark side to save his family have Kylo just be a selfish power hungry egomaniac using the Force for his own benefit.

If any of you have ever seen Dragon Heart Kylo would essentially be Prince Ivan.

Eh, I'd rather have him be the protagonist as one who's already well placed in the insurgents. Maybe he's come to see the New Republic as a failure.

For those keeping tabs, the RT audience score is STILL at 86%. You'd think they would be slightly less blatant.

Jeremy from Geeks + Gamers came up with a rather too tinfoil hat explanation for why it's at 86% (TL;DW: It's 86% because TFA was 86%, and parents are going to make that subliminal connection when deciding whether or not to see it).

Still, there's definitely something screwy going on. Why is it that RT has 86% when all the other sites are showing parallels between the critic and audience scores? 🤔

I've never gotten this idea that you're an autistic manbaby if you care about consistency from story to story. It's this postmodern idiocy that says fiction is infinitely malleable so you can do whatever you want with it (like create stupid new force powers or say that Hagrid is trans or something). The same people that argue that everything from race to gender is all some arbitrary social construct have no qualms applying that to established fictional properties.

So why didn't it work for Star Wars? For the first point, the trilogy movies are following the same characters through a (supposedly) cohesive storyline, so it's important not to wear out your audience by dropping each chapter so quickly. There's no anticipation or buildup, no hype generation. Having that extra year between movies could have made a world of difference both in their production and in their reception.

there was still enough interest for TLJ even after TFA, if ruin wouldn't had the shit so bad IX would be an equally bland inoffensive jarjar movie that makes 2 billions because normalfags love their brands.

they even tried the MCU approach but still made everything about MUH SKYWALKERS or MUH OT. marvel movies work because you get vastly different heroes with their own origins which culminates in a big crossover event - which would just fine, if not better in star wars.

I agree that killing baby Hitler is an interesting dilemma, but in the interest of appealing to your argument, why would Luke still be so impulsive and emotional well into his 40s/50s? He's had more than enough time to understand how and why his father fell to the Dark Side. Weak points aside, it stands to reason he would've known better than to be standing over his nephew's bed with his lightsaber at the ready. He learned this lesson in Empire.

like I said we don't know what happened in the meantime, we don't even get context for the scene. if he was checking on ben like a lot of adults do and then got hit hard out of nowhere with the vision (and maybe something else already put him on edge) pulling your saber first thing is nothing to be ashamed of. which is why TLJ is such a shit movie. there's nothing wrong with aiming your gun when threatened, only if you actually pull the trigger.

also, we know why anakin "fell", I doubt luke has seen the prequels - and who would've told him? almost everyone from that time or close to anakin was dead and the jedi order is pretty much gone too. heck I could even see luke getting dangerously close to the dark side for simply having no teachers or hardly any material while learning what it means to be a jedi.

if he had just kept on the mask for the entire movie and kept his mouth shut more then he would probably have been a cool villain like maul was, but he just turned out to be a whiny emo kid, and that's really unappealing.
dunno where I said it before (might have been another thread), but the only time I though kylo was somewhat "cool" when you just run around with him in battlefront 2 and he's spouting vader-like phrases (well, that and the beginning of TFA when poe tries to be a marvel character, kylo just looks at him and says "kill them all" - wow, a villain who takes no shit and is not stupid evil. but we all know where that went...).

Shaak Ti deserves better

Yeah, alot of characters deserved better, especially Shaak ti. Just look what they did to Dengar!

And reminder that the "Decraniated" are casually sold in catalogs as a "more effective and cheaper droid alternative". Like what the fuck. They're not even used as hookers, just pitiful maids and butlers.
This certainly gives more credence to my claims that Soggy Boggy Toilet Man, Captain Coffeepot, and other decraniated characters are seen in-universe as less than human even when these same characters are intended to appeal to niche fans such as gay males, the larger LGBTetc community, etc. So much for positively promoting diversity.

My Christmas wish is that the Mandalorian doesn't go to shit like GoT.
I'm not sure who is on the story group for The Mandalorian. It would be nice if the show maintained its focus on old-school SW storytelling for its entire run. However, Disney still has the reputation that whatever SW content it touches turns to garbage. The big question is whether they can buck that trend with The Mandalorian, or if they will backslide and somehow turn this show into crap as well.

You know, I’m starting to wonder if there’s a longer version of IX.
Supposedly there's several cuts, including one by Lucas.
We know there is at least one more version of it -- whatever existed before the decision was made to do mass reshoots. How many other versions exist between that and the final version to hit theaters is anyone's guess. Regardless, it's pretty certain none of them proved to be good.

I had my doubts before, but now I'm sure Star Wars was just a casualty of the woke mob that is simply using it as a weapon. They don't actually like Star Wars, but the idea of pushing away people that do.
That's why it's important for Lucas-era fans not to abandon SW entirely and continue to enjoy the movies and aspects they've always enjoyed. Otherwise, the woke mob and SJW crowd can claim moral victory (for their definition of the word "moral") and continue to produce shit-tier SW content. They don't deserve that kind of control over the franchise and long-time fans.

In Disney I saw a specially designed pair of mouse ears that was designed by......Ashoka herself, Ashley Eckstein....she has her own feminism based fashion brand now *sigh*
The shit was $80 something bucks.
You might not have known that Her Universe (Ashley Eckstein's company that sells sci-fi clothing and stuff primarily marketed towards female fans) has been around since Filoni's Clone Wars was still ongoing. I'm not surprised that there exists clothing and accessories priced that high; there are undoubtedly SW and Ahsoka fans that think the higher prices are worth it just because "Ahsoka (Ashley) made it!"

Tfw I actually like Ahsoka but I wish Disney would stop shoving her into literally everything. Jesus christ let a character die.
i think many average SW fans feel this way. Even though being Anakin's padawan opens up a number of cans of worms, Ahsoka eventually comes around as a character who grows quite a bit during her Clone Wars run (and I'm not talking about anything beyond Season 5 or the new coming episodes; that's all crap, IMO).

The biggest issue is that Filoni refuses to allow her to die or otherwise fade out of the picture. It's like he can't let go or accept the fact she has to die at some point and that her death at the right point in the SW time line could advance the plot in a meaningful way. Instead, we see Ahsoka shoehorned in where it makes no sense or simply to attract Ahsoka fans to media that's not strong in terms of content or story-telling (Rebels comes to mind as I've observed people saying her appearance at the end of Season 1 seemed more to prop up lackluster ratings than to have her be an important character in that show).

Its actually been speculated the reason we don't see more togruta on screen, is because they're afraid normies will assume any togruta they see to be her.
I wouldn't doubt this much because Shaak Ti was more of a background character in both Episodes 2 and 3 and also in Filoni's Clone Wars where she has limited speaking roles and her other appearances are as a non-speaking hologram when the Jedi Council meets and members not on Coruscant have to use holo-Skype to remotely appear and discuss the matter at hand.

Still, there's definitely something screwy going on. Why is it that RT has 86% when all the other sites are showing parallels between the critic and audience scores? 🤔

They're trying to create the illusion that this is one of those situations where the audience loves a widely panned movie, and a lot of people, at least now, just look at RT scores and decide to go see something or not. I assume RT got a healthy infusion of cash for this obviously rigged bullshit. It doesn't even really matter how they did it. It could be as crude as they just assigned a number and went in and changed it manually.

Yeah, alot of characters deserved better, especially Shaak ti. Just look what they did to Dengar!

Why do these things all look so fucking evil? They look like rejected Cenobite models.

It's possible that the greed of robber barons is actually running out. What do you do when you have so much damn money?

Human beings are naturally moral creatures, the true blue sociopaths are few and far between, most people like to feel like they are doing good for the world.

Maybe that's because of God, or maybe it's an evolutionary advantage, because the human species has gotten farther along by helping each other out than we ever would have if it was always just every man for himself, whatever your personal beliefs in the reason why it's just a fact that a desire for morality is part of human nature.

So as surprising as it's been it makes sense that after decades within the corporate world a sort of pseudo cult like morality would emerge within it, because there does come a point in which money for the sake of money starts to lose its meaning and those with the power and money want to try to use their influence to have what they see as a positive impact on the world.

That should be a good thing but the problem is the morality they've chosen is a flat out evil one, they've bought into the whole cultural Marxist schtick that the white man is the Great Satan of the world and should be oppressed.

Honestly he does look like something made in a lab but he isn't for some fucking reason. The dictionary claims he appeared on the snow planet and is a bounty hunter. And he has to keep his mouth open in order to see, so if he's eating he's defenseless.

So here are all the brainless/headless freaks in Disney Wars (at least the ones I know about or have been told of):

Hey look, it's Disney's ideal audience!

I believe you mean Prince Einon. I fucking loved Einon as a villain because he's just so goddamn evil. He outright murders his own mother when he finds out she wants to kill him. Fucker was a sadist for sadism's sake, too.
"Death is a release, not a punishment" was probably the most powerful characterizing line ever.

Now if they'd made Kylo basically space wizard Einon that would have made for a great villain.

A few things:

1. I agree that the hate Lucas trend was too much, and may have been one of the motivating factors for Lucas selling the thing to Disney, but that doesn't absolve Disney.
2. Again, no actors were bullied off of social media. There are few spergs, but the "fans" did not ruin any of the sequel actors' lives.
3. The whole "ruined my childhood" argument is ultimately a strawman that's used to deflect legitimate criticism of the franchise.

Just pure cringe.

Social media barely existed during the prequel era though. So that part is completely bogus. I never even heard of most of the hate against the prequels until after ROTS.

Filmmakers that would be better for the What If Trilogy than both JJ and RJ
  • Zack Synder
  • Michael Bay
I mean both directors would've been fine if only one had full control over the trilogy but had people reasonably keep them in check rather than Story Group people/Disney making them do dumb things or changing their ideas to fit their agendas.

...I don't know about Zack Snyder. I mean, I'm sure he wouldn't have been a complete jackass like Rian especially after any backlash, but considering some of his ideas regarding Superman and Batman, I wouldn't be too surprised if he would have made Luke a crazy jaded hermit that ran away. Then again, he probably wouldn't have given us Reylo crap or Canto Bight either.
