Makes sense, if you want to email all students from China you probably get less false positives and false negatives emailing all business students than emailing all students with Chinese names.

False negatives? How many Chinese don’t have Chinese names?

Edit: apparently late, must've missed it. ABC is LITERALLY the last place I go for for news. Aussie CNN, but with public funding.

brooooo noooooooo broooooo ABC is unbiased brooooo

Another confirmed Australian case, I don't think there's an article yet.
Another case (archive) in Victoria too, haven’t seen it posted here yet. He ate at popular all-you-can-eat buffet-style Chinese hot pot restaurant. Wonder how many he infected there. :\

A lot of Chinese Students adopt Western Names while studying here to feel they belong a bit more and to make it easier for people to remember their names. Ma Yun aka "Jack Ma" is the most famous example I can think of who adopted a western name.

Oh no, those are the legal equivalent of nicknames, none of them legally change their name. If Jack Ma studied abroad his school would know him as Yun Ma 10 times out of 10. Sorry everybody for posting off topic.

Kathy Zhu is an obvious grifter in the consevative movement..like so many.
"You whites", "y'all", "ain't".... what's with the southern / ebonics speech, kathy?
She thinks she's down with the black mayn or something.

She's also covering up for the fact that she may have eaten some um.. exotic foods before and now
she feels called out by "racist" whiteys.
Peope aren't racist against the chinese race. But we are allowed to make fun of lost generation backwardness. Heck, the Chinese themselves are memeing about this atm.

Australia's distributing 1 million P2 and surgical masks from the national medical stockpile to doctors and pharmacists in response to reports that the virus could be transmitted without symptoms.

Supplies have been depleted due to the bushfires, this will leave 20.5 million masks in the stockpile.

One million masks released as Australia reviews coronavirus response

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced 1 million masks will be released from the national medical stockpile, as the government reviews its response to the coronavirus outbreak after reports it could be transmitted without symptoms.

The masks will be distributed on Wednesday through local public health networks to general practices and pharmacists in areas where stocks had been depleted by the bushfire response, Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra.

It comes after worried GPs called for "urgent" assistance to replenish their stocks of P2 and surgical masks as they prepared to deal with an influx of suspected coronavirus cases.

Chief medical officer Brendan Murphy said an urgent meeting of all expert groups would "reconsider whether our medical advice should be changed" when it met on Wednesday afternoon to evaluate the veracity of two cases of human-to-human transmission outside China by patients who had not yet developed symptoms - one in Germany and the other in Japan.

"The normal advice has been with these viruses that you need to be symptomatic to be infectious," he said.

The flu-like coronavirus has now killed 132 people, mostly in China, and as of Wednesday morning had 6,000 confirmed cases.

Health minister Greg Hunt said there were 21.5 million masks in the national health stockpile, comprising 12.5 million P2 masks and 9 million surgical masks, which were "the appropriate masks for this particular type of action", and that "if more are required, more will be provided".

Professor Murphy said the general public was not advised to wear masks, which were only recommended for patients with the relevant travel history and symptoms and the doctors assessing them.

"We have only five confirmed cases in Australia. There is no evidence of human-to-human transition in Australia," Professor Murphy said.

"The Australian public should go about their business, reassured that the risk to them is extremely low."

He said Australia was "well prepared" to deal with the outbreak if more cases were confirmed, with state and territory health authorities equipped to "isolate people as necessary and manage them". A number of patients were tested for the coronavirus in recent days.

Victoria's chief medical officer Dr Brett Sutton said the state's health authorities were using similar hospital and ambulance procedures to those used for other highly infectious diseases such as measles and influenza.

"Isolating people who have coronavirus is pretty straightforward for us," Dr Sutton said.

Masks, gloves, aprons and goggles were used by staff treating patients with suspected coronavirus, he said, and isolation rooms were used "as appropriate".

NSW chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant said special measures were being taken to ensure all hospitals and emergency departments were well prepared for potential cases of the new coronavirus.

Dr Chant said the state's hospitals would not be testing every patient who had fallen ill after travelling to China, but were focussed on people who had been to Hubei province, where the coronavirus is believed to have originated at a market in the city of Wuhan.

Those who developed a "severe respiratory illness" after wider China travel would also be tested, she said.

"We’re monitoring that situation every day," Dr Chant said.

"I know it’s frustrating as our messages change, but assure you we do monitor the epidemiological situation in China."

Royal Australian College of General Practitioners president Harry Nespolon welcomed the government’s decision to distribute P2 masks to GPs.

"There is already a shortage of masks due to the bushfires and we don’t know if infections will continue for days or weeks ahead," he said.

Indeed. This incident seems to have given the CCP the excuse it needs to ban trade in wildlife for meat like bats and snakes.

One has to recognise that the Chinaman is born to the taste of strange meats, and enjoys cruelty. They also have many thousands of years of history of eating such things. For those reasons, there may be difficulty in making this prohibition stick, but the CCP now has the excuse to really crack down, backed up by the public will.

On a lighter note, which of these dog breeds eaten by South Koreans would you most strongly resist eating even in the worst of deprivations? For me, it would be the Pungsan, a sort of North Korean hunting and retriever dog. Impressive, loyal beasts by all accounts.

I'd rather eat the South Korean.

Do you guys believe the theory that the virus was man-made as a way for the Chinese government to curb the elderly population,Wuhan had some bio-tech labs, or do you believe the main culprit is just Chinese eating habits?
Yes, I believe it. My opinion of the Chinese government is so low that I wouldn't put anything past them. The coincidences involving Bill Gates and a new bioweapons lab in Wuhan are too much to ignore. Sometimes it's wise to be cynical or else you miss out on something important.

Finally some good news:

Scientists in Australia have become the first to recreate the new coronavirus outside of China in what they have called a "significant breakthrough".

The discovery will be shared with the World Health Organization (WHO) in the hope it may help efforts to diagnose and treat the virus.

Scientists in China have also recreated the virus and shared its genome sequence, but not the virus itself.

The outbreak has killed 132 people in China and infected close to 6,000.

There are at least 47 cases confirmed in 16 other countries, including in Thailand, France, the US and Australia. No deaths have been reported outside China.

Researchers at a specialist lab in Melbourne, Australia, said they were able to grow a copy of the virus from an infected patient. The sample was sent to them last Friday.

"We've planned for an incident like this for many, many years and that's really why we were able to get an answer so quickly," said Dr Mike Catton of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity.

Hope of 'game changer'
Doctors said the copy could be used as "control material" for testing and "will be a game changer for diagnosis".

That could involve an early-diagnosis test which could detect the virus in people who have not displayed symptoms.

Chinese authorities have said the virus - like a normal flu - is able to spread during its incubation period.

But the WHO has said it remains unclear whether it is contagious before symptoms appear.

Media captionWhat are viruses? And how do they spread?
"An antibody test will enable us to retrospectively test suspected patients so we can gather a more accurate picture of how widespread the virus is, and consequently, among other things, the true mortality rate," said Dr Catton.

"It will also assist in the assessment of effectiveness of trial vaccines."

According to the WHO, the incubation period can range from two to 10 days.

In recent days, the number of virus cases in China has jumped rapidly, despite authorities scrambling to contain its spread.

Chinese authorities have taken extensive action to effectively lock down Wuhan in Hubei province, where the virus originated, and surrounding cities.

TL;DR We already had its genome sequenced, but now Australians were able to recreate it and this will speed up the process for getting a vaccine and will make it possible for detecting it even if people have no symptoms. Also we will finally know how deadly and how spread it actually is.

4 people confirmed in Germany.
(I think it was mentioned before but here's a German source)

The company where the Chinese woman that infected the people held the conference has shut down until Monday.

Ironically the child of the dude who first got infected is happily going to kindergarten because she's 'symptom free'. I hope they know what they're doing and properly checked the kid. Because we all know what happens when one kid is ill and hangs out with playmates.

I love how Chinese people are so sensitive to “racism” when they’re doing better than just about any other minority group in America besides Jews. Really makes you think that “racism” and “anti-semitism” are just ways for wealthy people to avoid discussions on class.
Class warfare is also retarded, but is it ethical to fight retardation with retardation?

And ironic to see them telling a incovenient truth to a black guy in the documentary "Empire of Dust".
