Scandinavian Airlines "What is truly Scandinavian?" commercial pisses off everybody

Not quite a news article, but something interesting I found. A recent advertisement by Scandinavian Airlines, produced by Swedish advertising agencies &Co and funded by The North Alliance, has decided the best way to incite tourist interest in Scandinavia is to assert nothing about the region is unique nor interesting whatsoever. It does this in the usual ways, such as undermining all alleged Scandinavian culture (did you know the danish is not Danish, but Austrian?) and having a silly-looking nigger brag about his alleged 'viking ancestry.'

The comments section is was densely packed with westerners, not just Scandinavians, who reckon this was a stupid idea.

depends where you live really. in Sweden, being proud of your heritage, history or nation is seen as "dirty", "shameful" and sometimes, even "racist" by those in power. the average swede either dont care for politics or do everything in their power to avoid it. our SJWs are in the minority but they are so loud about how progressive they are, its hard to avoid them. dosent help the elites and corporations give them a big voice so they can shill for them and act as their shield. the only time you are allowed to be proud as a swede is when sports are involved. the Swedish left are so hardcore left it makes your typical american communist blush in embarrassment.

I used to buy a lot of those fashion magazines (don't judge me) and it's funny they're trying to be woke know when they've alwasy had diverse models for the covers. I've seen black women a few times, and never paid more attention that I should. Some were pretty, some other weren't, just like with the white models. I remember saying a few of them, white models, and thinking "boy, this girl is ugly".

I wouldn't have any issue with them putting a black woman on the cover and saying "ITALIAN MODEL WHATEVER" because fuck it, I get the point. She can be Italian too. Sure, whatever. But "Italian Beauty" has a different context, implying "THIS IS ITALY". It's such a nuanced context that I understand why people get mad at it.

These Europe countries doing this shit are funny because they fail from the start as they are trying to be something they are not. They are trying to copy us, the Americas. We are very mixed and everybody can claim being part of our cultures (US, Canada, and LatAm) because we are a highly ethnically diverse societies due to immigration and colonization*. As someone mentioned previously, castizos exist, so a "white" person here can claim "my ancestors were mayans" and probably get away with it. And I know a lot of black people who identify with their current countries, without any hyphen. Only Leftists would tell yoU "I'm African-Bolivian". Normal blacks will say "I'm Bolivian".

*the irony here is that the one thing they hate so much, it's the thing that made us what they are desperate to be.

Patriotism is another form of nationalism in Sweden, less so in the neighboring countries. Norway even celebrate their day of independence! Here the flag should be hidden unless it's a pride flag(ISIS is also acceptable) and having a national anthem is problematic.

This fear of nationalism extends further and not too long ago professional worry-warts started writing opinion pieces on how supporting and cheering for the Swedish national team in the soccer World Cup was problematic and Swedes should support other teams - this was largely met with a "nigga you retarded", people were fed up and for no reason at all the Swedish Democrats suddenly became the third largest political party which is blamed on a dangerous uptick in nationalism. Who could see that one coming?

Thing is, airlines have to run truly great ads, to make you want to use them, to visit their countries.

That Scandidavian ad doesn't do that. It just tells you that the country's a shithole that has stolen everything from others, and that Vikings had really bad teeth and were pussies.

They don't even need to do that. The shortened version of the Scandavian ad is less insulting to the locals but there's nothing attractive about it. You don't have some footage of some pink-haired fag of unknown origin, you focus on what people would actually want to do. "Visit [x] because it's fun!" and accentuate the positive is what has worked for everything else for decades. Even clearly low-budget ads for unremarkable (at best) places like Lake Charles, Louisiana follows that framework and isn't a national embarrassment.

Its more a product of Soviet propaganda centered around the age of colonialism as a way for the commies to smear their ideological enemies in North America and Western Europe. A common commie talking point was that as a product of "evil capitalist thinking" the "capitalist nations" stole everything from the down trodden of the world. Including things like culture. The idea of "cultural appropriation" for example, originated in Marxist thinking as the evil capitalists stealing what people already had and then selling it back to them in a bastardized form. Obviously a huge portion of this ire was directed at the USA, and the ideas had fertile ground in European academies as the former leaders of the world had to contend with being America's bitch post world war 2. Commie ideas about America "not having any real culture" were a sort of salve to the bruised ego. The French in particular lapped the shit up like cream.
