What scenarios can possibly make the election as hilarious as last time? - "It's not rigged, Trump's just losing"

So I recently found out that a bunch of the bluest states in the country now have a deal where they automatically give their electoral votes to whoever wins the popular vote.

I'm imagining a scenario where the democrat (preferably not Bernie for maximum hilarity) "wins" the EC, but Trump actually wins the popular vote so fucking MA and Cali automatically flip red and give Donald his second term.

Wouldn't be 2016 tier, but still probably funny as hell for it to blow up in their faces

edit: but more realistically it'll be their minds giving out. I think Biden vs. Trump debates have the most potential for hilarity if Trump starts bullying Biden on stage like he did with Jeb. that was my favorite part of the 2016 election, even the ocean of lefty tears came second to that.
