TGWTG Allison Pregler / Obscurus Lupa / Movie Nights - The vindictive leader of #ChangeTheChannel, GOTIS personified, vendetta against The Cinema Snob

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
If she and Phelous genuinely love each other, then I'm very glad for them. But it does feel to me like she decided to ride off of his far greater e-fame to publicise herself. In the earlier days, it wasn't so bad, even sort of endearing - but then we get to that Wrong Turn review where she ends the thing by attempting to sing a long, unfunny filk of Goldfinger, all while trying to come across as a 'sexy Bond Girl' type but instead looking more like a raddled, alcoholic divorcee attempting seductiveness down the nightclub. I've never felt any need to watch any of her solo stuff, and I'll usually happily give any new reviewer type from that community at least a quick shufti.

Quick aside -

Oddly, a few, and even more oddly (from my straight male perspective) all men. Brad may be balding, but he's easy on the eye aesthetically. Guru Larry was both at ease with himself when he was a lardarse, and more recently has become outright healthy and decent-looking. And Brandon Tenold is objectively one handsome guy.
Aside from Lindsay (your mileage may vary) all the decent looking women at CA were mostly only very briefly or loosely associated with it. Goggles, who was attractive enough to cam whore, has already been mentioned, and I remember someone on another forum where this subject came up posting a picture of some chick who did anime reviews (not JesuOtaku, much nicer looking) who was apparently part of the site for like five minutes who most people don't know about. I think there were also a couple of girls in group gaming shows for blistered thumbs who looked okay, in a nerdy low maintenance girl with glasses kind of way. There was also Lindsay's friend Maven, the "vampire," although she's an absolute lunatic who married Paw, came out as "asexual" and is raising their kid to be agender.

Other than that, you've got cat lady Lupa, snaggle toothed JO (now becoming a real boy), potato-ish Marzgurl, and hambeasts and probably troons like Nella and Hagan.

hate to double post but lupa is still on this im skipping a tweet which is just a gif of someone licking a boat (these tweets are from the hour)

Hoes mad over a simple “too bad. I’m alive”

I could be remembering wrong, but wasn't her and Phelan leaving a big deal at the time?

Phelan leaving was a big deal. He did a lot of the effects for the anniversary specials, as I recall. Allison just went with Phelan...though I'm not sure if the "fired via Skype chat" was before or after Phelan left. I've PLed in the NC thread, but I was close to some of the from CA folk back in the day, around 2013 to about 2016, though there's one I'm still friends with. I never bothered to get verified because no one ever really asked me to. But Allison has always been a bit insecure, a bit of a hanger-on to the more popular CA members. And now that she doesn't really have the name (not that she'd want it), she's discovered she doesn't have what it takes to be her own 'thing'. Even the change in format didn't help.

Let's be real here, she hasn't accepted that at all. She's decided to distract herself by waging an endless internet jihad against Doug and Brad instead.

Anyway, you were a contributor for CA? What were you known as? Or was it a more behind the scenes thing?

I was not a contributor, I did not work on any huge CA project, though I did appear in some producers videos and I was close to one creator. I don't want to flat out say who or what videos because I know some of them still check in on here & I don't want trouble...though I realize I'm kind of asking for it by powerleveling. If a mod wants me to verify, I will. If you want to know what a select few CA people were like off camera, I can let you know what I thought of them.

Well I guess you've kind of already told us what you thought about Lupa. An insecure hanger-on. What about Phelan? What was he like off camera?

While you're here, why don't you tell us what you thought of Rob and Doug? There's a lot of heavily biased stuff coming from both sides about them, so maybe you can give us a more objective view. My take so far has been that they were far too incompetent and immature to try and manage the behemoth of autism that was CA, but that they weren't actually malicious like the CTC loyalists try to frame them as being.

Mind you, I only briefly knew Allison and before all the shit hit the fan. In fact, I knew a few of them before they went hardcore SJW. She was sweet, chatty, funny but always sort of tagging along, you know? She was there for panels, but people where there to see other producers moreso than her. She had a sort of bright-eyed-ness to her that she's since lost, if that makes sense.

Phelan was quiet, funny & very insightful, the opposite of how he is 'in character'. He was very smart, knowledgable about a lot of things and very polite.

Both Phelan & Allison were great at interacting with fans, they took the time to listen to what most of them wanted to say, signed things, did photos, etc.

I never met Dog & Rob, but for what I gathered from others, many of the producers thought they were incompetent & arrogant. Doug wouldn't go to certain cons if they didn't pay for his room, etc or if he didn't feel a big enough deal was made about him being there. Rob couldn't keep who was who on the site straight. I was (and still am) close to particular person who was on the site & was there for "To Boldly Flee"'s release. A lot of them were blindsided and pissed, but couldn't talk about it until then. The whole fallout after the NC died left a lot of them (especially those not as popular as the likes of Linakra, Cinema Snob, etc) feeling like Doug & CA didn't care about them & their careers. Killing off the NC was a risky move (that didn't pay off) and everyone except Doug & Rob seemed to realize that it wouldn't just effect them, but others on the site as well. There was a movement (ie, the infamous CA group Skype chat) among the producers to make demands of Doug, Rob & Michaud, like rotating who got on the front page/who was featured, etc. Of course, nothing came of it. I suggested to my friend many times that someone with an actual degree and actual experience in HR and just plain ol' business management would be an ideal addition to CA's payroll, and they suggested it, but it was poo-poo-ed by the Big Three.

I won't reveal exactly who I knew, but if you have questions about certain people, I'll tell you what I know.

Alright. Do you have anything about Lindsay Ellis, Marzgurl, Linkara, Spoony, ERod the Blockbuster Buster, Brad Jones, or Spoony? Sorry it's so many, but those are the ones with real activeish talk here.

Lindsay : I didn't see much of her, but she was a bit...intense when I did see her, meaning she just had a very big personality and a lot of opinions and she would let you know them. I met a few other members of Team NChick (Elise, Nella and Paw (who was not on Team NChick, but had just gotten engaged to Elise. I remember congratulating them). My only real memory of Lindsay was her being super drunk one night during a con.

Linkara: He was nothing but pleasant and polite to me. We conversed briefly about his favorite musical, which I happen to have performed in three times. He was very attentive to his fans and when there was a meet and greet, he was the only producer to stay until the very end to make sure everyone who wanted to talk to him got a chance.

Spoony: I don't believe he attended the event I went to, but I was there (meaning talking to CA people) when that notorious tweet to Hope went out. I remember people freaking out and my close friend saying they felt bad that this was going to be the first thing Doug had to deal with after returning from his honeymoon...probably firing one of his good friends.

ERod: He came after I sort of stopped talking to the majority of the CA people. I remember him being around, but sort of like the little brother who desperately wants to hang out & be accepted by his older brother & his friends.

Yes, what was her name? I remember catching a glimpse of someone who did anime reviews but wasn't JO but I never did find out who exactly that was.

you forgot her rt and talking about brad, Tamara and Malcome for no good reason expect they work for Doug also featuring film brain and linkara
And still, Doug pulls in more views than all those that left CA in a fit of tardrage combined. That must be like salty vinegar in their wounds.
Linkara, for instance, has like 10% the views that Doug gets and he seems to be one of the few that manages to break into 5 digit numbers after a month.
Allison's videos crawl along at maybe 4k views and then die down.

This is some grade A lolcow behaviour, jfk.
2 years and she will never, ever let go of this bullshit vendetta. She only gets crazier and crazier with every passing month.

A bit of a different kind of question (and it sort of goes out to everyone in this thread):

What is the deal with Phelous?
What is his personal background? I always wondered what kind of education or job this guy did before he ended up as a youtuber.
Also, got anything on "Bennet the Sage"?

My only real memory of Lindsay was her being super drunk one night during a con.

I don't know what Phelan's education or employment is like, but he seems very knowledgable in how to add effects to videos. Granted, it may not look like it in his videos or the anniversary specials, but I think it's more because of what he has to work with, you know?

I never met Bennett, but from what I heard from others, he seemed a decent guy. To save time and a guessing game, I'll let you know I knew/interacted with (in addition to those already mentioned) FilmBrain, Nash, Welshy, SadPanda, Ed Glaser (I think that's how it's spelled), Holly, a bit with Kyle Khallegren or however it's spelled, and yes, a brief interaction with JewWario. So...ask away, I guess.

Okay, after dropping that, we need to know:

What was Jewario like? I guess a friendly, unremarkable and polite fella. Cause these scumbags are usually really good at hiding their true colors... but maybe there was something that you can share?

Also: Filmbrain comes across like a massive sped, what is he like in the flesh?

JewWario was exactly as he appeared, polite, friendly, unremarkable. The one occasion I met him, he was very polite, he seemed very interested in me when we met & getting to know me. At this time, I was over the age of 25, but I look younger than my actual age, but I never looked like I was 14 or anything. We met in the Artist Alley area and my friend went off to chat with another person & Justin started talking to me. He put his hand on my shoulder & looked really intensely into my eyes & sort of pulled me closer to him. It was a little weird but I figured he was just trying to show he was invested in getting to know me & what I had to say. I never felt unsafe or got the creeps. My friend saw us, came over, made some hasty excuse and we said our goodbyes. They asked me what Justin said to me and I just said normal getting to know you stuff, nothing weird or creepy. They said that they were sorry if they seemed rude, but they didn't trust Justin because they heard he was cheating on his wife and didn't want me alone with him. That was the most I heard of anything. Apparently I was present (at least in the same building) as the notorious fingering incident that Count Jackula related & I remember some people rushing around, but it was very hush hush, I never knew the details.

As for Film Brain, he always struck me as just being very nervous, shy and eager to please. He didn't like to make a fuss. A prime example was the people he was sharing a room with where checking out and he had one more night there. He didn't say anything until I figured it out & offered him the room I was sharing with some people, since I was leaving that night, he could just take my place. He second guesses himself a lot and is very much a follower, not a leader. I think he's just very sheltered and doesn't really know how to assert himself in a positive way and was overwhelmed or awestruck by this people he worked with. He seemed to mean well & just wanted people to like him. The rare times he did open up, he was very kind & sweet.

Did you ever meet Chad Rocco or Dominic Smith?

I did not. I was familiar with CR's work, but that was about it.

EDIT: I feel bad now that I've hijacked Allison's thread with general NC/TGWTG stuff :( Sorry!
