I really don’t understand what Bob is popular. Like, he’s supposed to be a movie review, but his Twitter is nothing but elitist political rantings.

Not to defend him, but he used to be different. When Obama won he spent time in a video praising McCain, while no Trump, an old white republican. I might be misremembering, but I believe he even said some kinda nice things about Ted Nugent once. I stopped following him after his "build a better gamer" video, so I don't know if Trumpalofagous broke him or if he cracked before that.

The general indie hipster invasion of the internet in the early 2010's happened. The first real Bad Year for Bob was 2012, where he blasted anyone who criticized Mass Effect 3's ending as hating "auteur creators" (side note, but I cannot think of something more insulting to actual auteur filmmakers than comparing them to post-EA Bioware), and where he firmly positioned himself on the media's side of the Tropes vs. Women in Video Games nontroversy, mostly because of his unending thirst for its host, Anita Sarkeesian.

I imagine he either said "This shitty Chinese cash grab is just like the Sonic movie" or "This Chinese movie is like the Sonic movie done right." Either way, yes I'm pretty positive that's why he'd have him in the thumbnail.
If anyone cares to confirm, please go ahead. Even if the video were mirrored I don't think I could stand to watch it all the way through to check myself. I can only stand Robert's videos filtered through something like EFAP.

Robert was always very clear about his politics, and although he was more leniant on issues like Women in videogames representation, and had arguments that today he would be very against of, as far as his politics and self-rigthous grand standing, that was always there.
But Robert could at least keep it in check, every now and then he would say his piece, but mostly it was about videogames and movies and his love for it.
Then he changed his gameoverthinker videos to a skit format like TGWTG, and if that wasn't bad enough, he made the villain of his show a Bro lover of FPS and hater of Nintendo. While Robert avoided inserting too much politics into this character, the carcicature was so bitter and unpleasant, seething with palpable bile and resentment,and so badly done that it drove away most of the shown audience. And that only made him double down not just on the Skit shit, but interjecting his disdain for a group of people in a way that it was just not fun to watch.
That is when Robert started to crack for me, gamegate just got him into overdrive. He calmed down a bit after he got fired, wallowing in self pity till Trump showed up.
And now Robert is just what you see before your very eyes. I think he will never change. He might pipe down if a democrat win, but to an actual enjoyable creator, nah, this is the image he made for himself and it will be the one have to carry.
At this point, the only thing that can make it worse is if the Escapist gives him the boot.

Bob's been online for over a decade and if you do the Herculean feat of looking back through his timeline I believe you'll see, because this is what I see, is that Bob has always been somewhat unhinged. His general ideology/beliefs are in a flux that generally follows the popular trend on the liberal side of the political spectrum. The only thing that is consistent is Bob's superiority complex, to Dunning-Kruger levels, and his hatred, true unadulterated hatred, of what he perceives as "the other". I speculated more or less the same thing as you a little more than half a year ago as he seemed to be getting worse. He has, in my eye, gotten worse since even then. I think the 2016 election really did a number on him like it did with all the other people suffering from TDS. Because there's "a WHOLE army of inbred orc canon-fodder in that big red splotch of nothing in the middle of the country", of whom Bobbyboi has always had a disdain for, that got to do a victory lap when it was #HerTime...well clearly there can be no peace. This coming presidential election is gonna be a doozy one way or the other. I cannot see Trump loosing with the Dems acting like they have and if Orange Man wins and Orange Man bad?

There is a good chance Trump might lose. Not to play sides, I don't do politics nor I like those, but if we go just by numbers, he didn't win with a big margin, and people might call a populist, but he is very off putting to a lot of people. Its a toss up in my opinion, I wouldn't put money betting on this election.

Yeah, but last election is also a good case to not trust polls. Again, not taking sides, just find prudent to not making any calls till the thing is done.

The polls are likely biased against Trump for two major reasons.
First, polls have always historically tended to lean a bit more to the left than the actual vote. This could be for any number of reasons: more polling places leaning left wing and affecting the outcome in all kinds of subtle ways, right leaning people being less open about their political attitudes, but the pattern is definitely there. When polls are inaccurate, they're almost always inaccurate in the left's favor.
Second, left wing people exert far more social pressure trying to get people to not support Trump than the other way around. Especially if you live in a heavily blue area, becoming a known Trump supporter can very realistically heavily damage your social life and possibly your career depending on where you work and for who. Conservatives meanwhile tend to keep work and politics separate. Friendships too, if the other person isn't in their face and nasty about it. This ties into the above about right leaning people being less open about politics and not wanting to take polls, and with Trump it's more pronounced than with basically any other Republican because people on the left are far more zealous about this with Trump than they ever were for even Dubya. Trump supporters are far more likely to be in the closet than the supporters of any other candidate.
