I remember the 'energy crisis', lines at gas pumps, and had parents who lived through the depession (and didn't have electricity until the forties; we recycled religiously) and grandparents who lived through shit like the Spanish flu. People were more cohesive then. It's much different now.I'm only middle aged and I remember the extensive power cuts of '73-74 (just). Mum had us little ones making toast via the gas fire, sitting in the dark, with candles burning for light. I also remember the winter of discontent. One of the (many) reasons I have never voted Labour and never will. I was just a little kid and the politics at the time were beyond me but I recall the rubbish piling up, the anguish at the dead remaining unburied and so on. I also had older relatives in the old mill towns with outdoor toilets still back in the 1970s. Brought up on war stories. It's amazing how you can get by with very little when you absolutely have to. The key is planning and co-operation between people though. People back then relied on each other far more, there was less 'I've got mine, fuck everyone else' mentality among the working classes.
Dont forget to stock up on alchohol for the crippling alcoholic in you. You dont want to be caught without booze after 5 days of doing nothing like that one cruise ship. It's the Florida man way. things with higher alcohol content are good disinfectants for cuts if you're going that far
I personally am just gonna roll overand die, prepping is too hard.

Chinese authorities weld the entrance shut with people inside.
Or even better one... CCP knew of this beforehand. Apparently made no preparations. Then when doctors raised a concern they were arrested; one's dead. ...
Communists will never stop intriguing me.North Korea successfully combated the virus!
Allegedly, the first verified carrier of coronachan in North Korea is executed.
Take notes governments of the world, this is a quick and easy solution.
Can we please do that anyways regardless of the virus? Can we just quarentine all of Cali outside of the agricultural areas?
They did this to get state money. THE LIBERAL FUCKERS.View attachment 1161403

Yeah, this is why I don't buy anything I wouldn't normally eat. I detest canned veg, and doubt its nutritional value; if I do buy it, I'll never eat it, so I don't. Canned or dried fruit's okay, but I don't eat it very often, so I don't buy much.I seriously hope that come summer I am laughing at my own paranoia and looking for ways to integrate canned fruit and veg into our daily diets.
How bad is it going to get in the US? NYC claims we have no Wuflu cases, I find that hard to believe.
Can't tell how many of you are being serious or are losing your goddamn minds.
I'm afraid my friend, we're completely fucked. I ride 3 types of public transport every day and I just look at the masses of people. JFK. Penn Station. AMTRAK. An incubation period of 14-24+ days. Asymptomatic spreading. Lives on surfaces for 9 days. Can be transmitted through feces and urine.
It is already here. There's no fucking way its not. To be quite honest, every major metropolitan area should do random population screenings.
I use 3 forms of public transport, work in a place with many international people and am very close to multiple airports with vast numbers of travelers from who knows where the fuck. There's not enough hand sanitizer on the planet that will keep me safe. I'm super fucked, there's no prevention for me. Hell, it could be incubating right now and I wouldn't know for 3 weeks.
I mean, I guess I'm prepping? Though part of me feels like its futile.
I fortunately already posses a good deal of knowledge on foraging including mycology. But I live in the north. We can always hunt year round but foraging isn't really an option when the ground is snow covered. Not to mention that what I am preparing for is isolation so scouring the land would defeat that purpose.Yeah, this is why I don't buy anything I wouldn't normally eat. That said, learning to identify, forage for, and cook wild greens (aka "weeds") is a good strategy, imo. Dandelion is common almost everywhere, and in the spring the leaves are good if you like stronger-tasting greens. The roots are edible, too. They can get really bitter once summer kicks into high gear, but par-boiling helps.
Plantain, nettles, burdock, and clover are just a few others I can think of where all or part of the plant can be consumed in a variety of ways, and there may be others local to your region. So it's worth looking into.
But yeah, this summer I hope to be able to laugh and say, "Well, at least I won't need to do any major grocery shopping for a while."
It's been a month of governments and the news downplaying the issue while things steadily got worse. Now containment is fucked, the governments are still being stupid, and there's still people going "haha its just the flu, bro."Can't tell how many of you are being serious or are losing your goddamn minds.
