I totally trust them not to embezzle/fuck with the money as the city sinks further into the ocean of needles and shit
thank you doctor purr very cool

Any emergency funds given to them will be spent on racism prevention programs, and Transexual acceptance education. Because of course it will. In the meantime they will do nothing about the vast herd of disease breeders shitting in their streets.

It gets better.

São Paulo, for those unfamiliar, has north of 12 million inhabitants, or 21+ million if you count the greater metro.
Well, they're fucked. Até logo bitches

yup and never mind that the group's they are going to spend their money will probably be the most impacted from lack of actual disease prevention.
yet somehow practical action is racist.

San Francisco mayor declares coronavirus emergency

San Francisco Mayor London Breed has declared a local emergency amid coronavirus fears.

“Although there are still zero confirmed cases in San Francisco residents, the global picture is changing rapidly, and we need to step up preparedness,” Breed said in a statement Tuesday. “We see the virus spreading in new parts of the world every day, and we are taking the necessary steps to protect San Franciscans from harm.”

While three people have been treated for COVID-19 at San Francisco hospitals, there have been no confirmed cases of the illness in the city.

Breed made the announcement following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s warning that the virus is likely to continue to spread.

“Ultimately, we expect we will see coronavirus spread in this country,” CDC Director Nancy Messonnier said. “It’s not so much a question of if, but a question of when.”

San Francisco’s declaration, effective immediately, will be in place for seven days and will be voted on by the Board of Supervisors on March 3.

The decree will allow the city to allocate resources around coronavirus mitigation efforts. Such efforts include staffing, the coordination of agencies throughout the city, the allowance of future reimbursement by the state and federal governments and increased awareness throughout the city on coronavirus preparation methods.

Santa Clara and San Diego counties have issued similar declarations.

San Francisco’s health officer, Dr. Tomás Aragón, said that decision was based in part on the high volume of travel between the city and Wuhan, China — the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak.

“We are prioritizing children, people who live in congregate settings and vulnerable populations as we plan to reduce the potential for harm from the virus in the community. We have been working closely with the Chinese community, who are so impacted by this situation, and also at risk for stigma and discrimination,” he said.
Breed reiterated the CDC’s call for schools and businesses to prepare for the likely spread of cases and prepare for possible school closures or work-from-home needs.

Messonnier advised parents to talk to schools about the possibility of internet-based learning in the event that COVID-19 were to spread and students needed to refrain from going to school. She suggested businesses think about how to use teleconferencing if employees should need to work from home. And Messonnier said officials would also need to consider whether to cancel large community-based events.

More than 2,600 people have died from the virus, the majority in mainland China. In the United States, there have been 57 confirmed cases; 40 of those are repatriated individuals from the Diamond Princess cruise ship. There are 15 confirmed cases in California.

Well, I'm fucked.
Coworker was in Cali all of last week and I know the pole smoking little shit was the gay community's scooty puff Jr. the whole time.

For the USA: I can't imagine the USA going full ŕetard like senior china. Keeping water and power up and running or back online is one of the top priorities in natural disasters, one for keeping people healthy and pacified and one for keeping people informed and not panicking. The politicians here have some fear of people if just because they cant declare themselves god emperor/eternal whatever without some really pissed off American with guns coming at them yet, so they have to at least do something to keep being reelected (usually). That and even most politicans have some compassion for others, unlike China's complete "fuck you got mine." Generally, our lawmakers decide to listen to the CDC as well, and know what pest horrors could come without proper garbage disposal.

I'm down for most of the reasonable 30 days to 3 months prep here and hope all of you prepping for your families don't have to use any of your stock up. Whether you're living in a crowded area, a place that's hard to get medical care, or live in some shithole like Gary, IN, I get you and hope nothing comes down to the wire. I'm just :optimistic: and if not resigned to my fate as a college student with mandatory classes.

I somehow survived a year and a half of working at a busy pharmacy without contracting the flu or something else horrible, I'm putting my luck and my sanitation skills to the test again.

I frequented semi-covered Korean outdoor markets for over three years during the 70's and 80's, and the worst thing I got was a case of the shits after eating my first Asian pear. That's why I don't buy the virus just spontaneously coming out of some market downtown in Wuhan.

i'm surprised they're doing anything for it, this is the same people who say it's totally ok to infect people with aids so i wouldn't be surprised if they kept the "it's just a flu bro" going.

the silver lining is that if you live through this with your reproductive organs in tact you can tell your grandkids about the 2020 Chinese Flu pandemic and subsequent economic shockwave (complete with global supply chain malfunction) caused by the world-class, weapons-grade incompetency of global """""""""leadership""""""""""".
it'll all be shits and coofs giggles a decade from now, trust me comrades

There's a gun show coming up in my area, so I plan on buying a couple of firearms. I've got a few thousand dollars to spare on that. If Corona-chan goes on a stripper grand tour here in the U.S., and we end up getting bands of crazed looters, could my gun-loving kiwis recommend what guns would be best for home-defense?

In the hands of someone who doesn't know shit about guns? An empty 12-gauge. Practice looking unhinged while working the pump. The sound alone will probably make people scatter. But it takes a not-few amount of hours practice at a range before I'd say someone isn't just a danger to themselves and people around them with a gun, so if you don't have the time to devote to actually learning how to use it well before Corona's slutting it up in the US cities, it's too late to get a gun.

That being said, if you do unwisely buy yourself a gun without training in how to use it, at least buy frangible rounds for it. They're designed to blow apart on impact, so in theory if you miss the person you're shooting at, they won't punch through the wall and your kid on the other side of the wall. It will at least reduce the odds of you accidentally killing your family.

Really using antibiotics for a virus will do shit other than make your immune system more compromised by killing the good flora and having yeast take over. The best bet if you can't go to the hospital with wu flu is to rest and drink as much water as possible. Point is its just stupid to take antibiotics with a virus.

Well, exactly, but that is the precise problem with idiots who self-diagnose and treat and buy meds not made for human consumption or meds that may as well be the equivalent of gutter oil, manufactured and sold without licence or prescription out of some third world shithole, without knowing wtf they're doing. They think they have one thing, while they have another (differential diagnosis exists for a reason), have no idea what drugs are used for or why or how they work, and just pick something they've heard of, and take whatever until 'they feel better' which could be either becuase they have a self-limiting illness the drug had no effect on anyway (like a common cold or flu) or they didn't complete a full course and helped create the latest superbug.

Why people think they can effectively do the job of people who actually had to pass exceptionally stringent examinations and have a complex understanding of chemistry, biology, human physiology and pharmaceuticals etc by reading some online survival guide written by someone who probably has no more education than high school or by asking a pet shop owner to chuck you something that goes into a fish tank is beyond me. You wouldn't ask a vet to treat you medically - why would you trust someone, anyone, with way less appropriate education even than that? May as well ask your local post office worker to suggest a drug by picking a label out of a hat. Or even worse, a homeopath. Or hell just go with your local tie-died twat who thinks they're a witch.

if most males go sterile then the few who are still fertile will be rolling is pussy. finally NEETS will get to be become their favorite harem protagonists.

Well... I have 4 fire arms. All been used in various actions in life. If you are going to purchase a fire arm right now and never fired one, you are just going to get yourself killed. If you are really that serious and you ARE a nub then go get yourself a Rugar 10/22 rifle or a .22 handgun.

And example of a .22 handgun is here.

Again just don't be stupid. Don't expect a larger caliber weapon and play Hollywood.

Nothing quite says "Best Korea" quite like only distributing the shitty do nothing cloth face masks made out of used bedsheets to the Top Party Officials! The Peasants can all suck Corona-Chan raw!

I actually kinda feel bad for North Korean citizens. The Kims have thoroughly fucked that country so bad that cloth masks are probably the best WuFlu protective gear they can make on their own with their limited resources and machines. Worse is that the citizens are barred from having even the flimsiest of protection until fatty Kim says so.

Godspeed Gentlemen. :semperfidelis:

my general survival skills are lacking but guns are something I do know and have put a lot of thought into. autism incoming but there's probably not going to be one perfect gun to ride out the apocalypse so it's all about what you're willing to spend, what your personal circumstances dictate you'll be doing should the world end, the laws in your area that dictate what you can currently buy, and what performance characteristics you're willing to compromise on. Also before you pick up a gun, I'd suggest trying to get some training from someone since they do have a learning curve and you need to be instilled with proper safe handling.

Pistols are the easiest guns to keep on your person at all time, which is great because the biggest most badass gun ever made can't help you if it's not within easy reach. There's lots of choices out there for semiauto pistols that should go for thousands if not tens of thousands of rounds with no more maintenance than occasional cleaning, and maybe an easily-replaceable part like a new mainspring or extractor along the way. (Beretta, CZ, Glock, SIG, Walther, HK, S&W, etc- most will shoot well and run fine so it kinda comes down to personal preference. Maybe rent some guns at a local range?) Be sure to pick a common caliber, no hipster shit that would be hard to obtain like .357 SIG or 10mm! 9mm Luger is the most popular centerfire handgun caliber and for good reason- it's the cheapest, it strikes a good balance between decent power and manageable recoil, and it also allows high capacity in a reasonably-sized gun. Budget for accessories as well- grab a bunch of mags, a bunch of ammo, some spare parts like I mentioned earlier, and I'd make sure my gun has a rail so I can slap a weaponlight on it. For a fullsize pistol the Streamlight TLR-1 and Olight PL-2 Valkyrie are two affordable CR123 lights I've had good experiences with, and can be found in the $100 range. Stock up on batteries and see if you can find a holster that will fit your chosen pistol with the chosen light mounted, if not there are shops that can make custom holsters for your specific setup. I for real cannot stress how much you want a good holster. Features like fiber optic or tritium sights will help you get a sight picture in low light, if you decide against the added size/cost of the weaponlight or just want to be sneaky. The downside of pistols are that the terminal effects on bad guys are less impressive than the following choices, and they're also the hardest to shoot accurately since you don't have the support of a shoulder stock.

A shotgun can be a good choice for home defense, but I'd rather have a semiauto pistol or rifle. Still shotguns are affordable, they usually don't require the added cost of mags, they're usually extremely durable and reliable, and 12ga ammo is pretty common. 20ga is less common, but not exactly rare either. Birdshot can be nasty at point blank range but is only good for killing birds at any sort of distance, so buckshot or slugs are what you want (for close-medium or medium-long range shots respectively.) I'd stick with a tubefed pump action like a Mossberg 590A1 or an older Remington 870, probably an 18-20" barrel, since those will last forever and parts availability is great. Get a good sling, get a weaponlight and some way to attach it to the gun, and search around to figure out what might break on whatever gun you have and order spares. Downsides are low capacity, long reload times, fairly high recoil, pump-actions can suffer from malfunctions if you don't work them with authority, and it's not as easy to carry around all day compared to a much smaller pistol.

My preference for home defense is actually an intermediate or pistol-caliber carbine, like a shorter 5.56 AR-15 or a CZ Scorpion EVO with a shoulder brace. The AR-15 will be loud as hell indoors, but is otherwise mild to shoot and a very effective round between 0-250 yards. (That range isn't needed for home defense in urban areas, but it's nice if you're out in the sticks and trying to keep a perimeter on property with clear lines of sight.) Expanding or frangible 5.56/.223 ammo is common and affordable, so are accessories and spare parts. You can build an AR from scratch with fairly minimal hand tools, so with the right tools repairing them yourself is entirely possible. Decent ARs are all over the place and they aren't that expensive, just look for one with a 5.56 or .223 Wylde chamber matched to a C158 bolt and 4150 CMV barrel. Get a spare bolt and small parts kit, they're readily available. A good red dot or 1-4x scope like an MTAC work great on those guns, depending on how far you think you'll be shooting. Pmags are good, Lancer L5AWMs are prooobably better overall? Alternatively some pistol caliber carbines like the Ruger PC or some AR-9 models will take mags from pistols, which means you could get a rifle/pistol combo that draws from the same pool of magazines and ammo. Carry the pistol just in case, and grab the rifle if shit goes down. Most pistol ammo will get a velocity boost from the rifle barrel, and it'll be easier to land hits with. Again not as portable as a pistol but both choices are compact, accurate, have low recoil, and will stop an aggressor.

Get some good safety glasses and electronic earpro too. If you really wanna go ham with this end-of-the-world shit there's affordable body armor that can stop rifle-caliber rounds from companies like AR500 armor, because it's nice to be able to be shot at and at least have some of your most important bits be covered

Rwanda health minister fired
Rwanda’s president Paul Kagame on Sunday revealed how the country’s health minister had been fired over mishandling of coronavirus testing kits. In a stinging rebuke on his ministers, Kagame accused several of them including the ex-health minister Diane Gashumba of lying, carelessness and indiscipline.
Kagame, who was speaking at the National Leaders’ Retreat said Gashumba lied to him about the availability of kits to test individuals for the deadly Coronavirus, Covid-19.
“One morning, I called one of the leaders and the Prime Minister about the Coronavirus and asked that they examine each one of us ahead of the Leader’s Retreat. I told them to tell the minister of health to ensure this.’‘
“She responded that we have 3,500 kits, and that using 400 of them to test leaders would seriously deplete the number of kits we have. The person I sent told her that the message is an instruction, and that if she has objections she should call me. “Later we discovered that we do not have the kits as she said. We have kits for only 95 people and not 3,500. I asked her about this and she started giving excuses in a long story. You leaders, you cannot even speak the truth; how do you expect to solve problems?” President Kagame said.

USFK Service Member Confirmed with COVID-19

CAMP HUMPHREYS, PYEONGTAEK, Republic of Korea — —

A USFK soldier stationed at Camp Carroll tested positive for COVID-19, marking the first time a U.S. service member has tested positive for the virus.

The patient, a 23-year old male, is currently in self quarantine at his off-base residence. He visited Camp Walker on 24 Feb. and Camp Carroll 21-25 Feb. KCDC and USFK health professionals are actively conducting contact tracing to determine whether any others may have been exposed.

USFK is implementing all appropriate control measures to help control the spread of COVID-19 and remains at risk level “high” for USFK peninsula-wide as a prudent measure to protect the force.

USFK encourages all personnel to continue to practice strict proper hygiene procedures as the best ways to prevent the spread of viruses and protect the USFK population: wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer, do not touch your face or eyes with unclean hands, avoid handshaking and unnecessary contact with others, non-mission essential large gatherings, clean all common-use areas and items, use caution when traveling off-installation, and most importantly if feeling sick or ill, avoid going to work or school and seek medical treatment for proper diagnosis.

You got a lot of good replies already and a lot of advice, but if you do go down the path of actually learning to use firearms I would suggest picking up a revolver as well. Nothing Dirty Harry would use but something that shoots say .38 special or .357.

Chances are you'll never use it over a glock or something, semi autos replaced revolvers as the workhouse sidearm for a reason, BUT, revolvers are the toughest girls around and can take a beating better than an Irish housewife. I've seen wheelguns survive things you wouldnt believe and keep on working because they are just so mechanically simple.

In the face of long term societal collapse (hey, it could happen) you'll stop looking for lethality and start searching for reliability, and revolvers are still the old fucking faithful of gun design.
