Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Tbh I'd rather be a coomer than a coofer

IIRC from way back in the thread, measles had a R0 in the teens and is therefore more virulent than kung flu.

It’s around 18, but that’s so much higher than most other things it’s a bit of an outlier. An r0 of 6 is at the higher end for a pathogen.

You may be thinking of Frisco.

EMTs in CA are freaked about this virus. There's a recognition of the deteoriating public health standards and concern that the homeless may already be suffering from the disease without getting a proper diagnosis. A friend of mine is in several private chats with other stations throughout the state. Most of the concern is in the area between San Diego and Los Angeles. There have been a few situations where they pick up a group of really sick people living under a bridge, get them to an emergency room only for them to leave the moment they are stable. There's no way to follow up after they leave the system.

San Francisco has an emergency center set up and they've been trying to recruit nurses from other states to deal with whatever's coming. From what I've picked up, the response has been tepid, no one wants to go to SF even for a short stint. On the one hand, yeah, word gets around about the shitting on the streets. Everyone recognizes that's the worst possible policy in a pandemic and wants no part of it. On the other hand, I think a lot of people are skeptical whether they are getting the whole story about what's going on. If you think about it, why would they be overstaffing if there are no known cases?
I'm from there and I wouldn't go back if you paid me one million dollars a shift. It's as dystopian as China in many regards. At least in NYC you can fly under the radar.

When people start infecting others by flinging wuflu poo, new name for it'll be Brown Death.

Add in stinking piss that can be easily weaponised with cheap plastic water guns and piss balloons and we'd be seeing some creative exceptionalism rivaling the mainland Chinese who spit at the poor doctors doing their job and licking elevator buttons.

It was in LA. If I got the location right of someone getting a bucket of shit at Hollywood's walk of Fame means they're in LA.

San Francisco's pooping habits on the other hand has what you mentioned as the issue. LA I'm not sure of but there's probably similar problems.

Not surprised nurses are dying, when they are this overworked and stressed. Those who survive will probably suffer PTSD from the experience. Good luck in getting many from outside China to volunteer under such conditions and in such a dishonest totalitarian system though.
Maybe I'm paranoid and over estimating the impact this will have on the US healthcare system, but what do you guys think the chances of mandatory conscription for health care workers could be? I think people would be surprised how many nurse's do office work(despite the nursing shortage), or otherwise work outside of hospitals. If this shit gets bad enough and there simply aren't enough nurses or other healthcare workers to treat the masses do you think they would mandate some sort of service. I mean they do have every skilled health care workers name, and mostly likely address on the books.

Saw my first mask-wearer. Grocery store. I'm in the Central/West area of the US, about ~700 miles away from the nearest confirmed case.

His mask was... blue. Not a N95. Looked like a surgical or disposable dust mask.

We are, however, in a region known for preppers which has a certain pseudo-Christian religion that requires their people to prep -- to the point that the local Walmart has a Prepper section -- so, should be interesting if anything happens.

No confirmed cases in my state as of yet, though Im hearing that Asian markets are full of people wearing masks already.

That's already part of the Selective Service system should they choose to activate it. Though as of now it only effects a portion of the population.

I live in an super Asian area with a fuckton of Chinese people and have only seen a few face masks. All the Asian markets are sold out. We did have a very bad flu outbreak so I'm not sure how much is Coronavirus and how much is flu. It never really registered with me as anything to be worried about since I have spent so much time in various Asian cultures it could be anything, and there have been confirmed cases in my state. Honestly, I am more worried about the seasonal flu than coronavirus.

First Finnish case here confirmed. She came from itally and felt ill.
Wont make me a doomerfag yet tho. Even if quarantine was going to be a thing, I have cans of pea soup, refigirated Meat and clean water from tap because we are not a third world shithole. Worst case scenario, I get few weeks of vacation out of this.
Second, actually. Finland was one of the first European countries to have a single case weeks ago. There was a Chinese dominated area of Helsinki there. Kontula, I think. Wouldn't be surprised if there's some carriers there.

Children in Italy are now getting it. 4 year old.

Edit: Corrected re: @AtomicAgeBoy

So, if this thing gets worse, would it be better if you live in a US city to try to leave if it looks like it might get quarantined, or stay put? Asking for a friend

Meant as In first propper Finnish. First one was chinese tourist, I was the one posting about those and translating the news in this thread.

So what's the verdict so far? Fucked, somewhat fucked, normal-ish/actually is a flu, or too early? I'm leaning on the latter since most deaths so far are happening in places with poor heathcare and conditions.
Also, suspicious how China dropped off the radar in the news.
I'd say somewhat fucked if you're not in an absolute clownworld jurisdiction. I'll repeat what I said above but if that /pol/ poster is right about how the virus is operating and it's effects... Shit' man I don't wanna end up living like an HIV patient. I hear that's not cheap.

the advantage us Scandinavian countries have unlike central European and east Asian countries is that we are sparsely populated and lets be honest we are mostly anti social by nature. i think we will fare alright through this, as long as the migrants don't fuck it up.
