Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Jeezus christ, this thread is chugging along, I'm sitting at home drinking a beer at eight ayem because I went to class and the school is closed for two weeks 'for cleaning', which means there are probably cases in the community now. My work then contacted me, they're not coming in, but they've got some busy work I can do from home, so I grabbed a six, went home and am now waiting for my younger roomie to wake up so we can go into town and pick a couple of last things up. I'm kinda pissed, this is gonna foul up finals week, I had sunk money into my presentation and literally three more days of school and it would be done for awhile, stupid virus

Stay safe everybody.

What a galaxybrained Chad. Can't get tested home? Time to endanger a whole plane to leech off of a foreign government! Britishness. Britishness never changes.
I see nothing wrong with it. At least some of the people on that plane were responsible for existance and thus failures of current system, so they deserve the chinese plague.

For the people here that enjoy skiing, are you also enjoying the mountains of snow salt from people having to cancel their vacation and trying to get refunds from their reservations?

uh.. house rep DeLauro wearing her best today.

Fuck man, the ride never ends, doesn't it?

Fucking mong. But so typical, middle classes and their bloody skiing trips. Piss off with that shit.

Doctors are the worst patients, for sure. This twit, like the twit in Australia who exposed a fuckload of patients to the virus, should have damn well known better. I notice the medical establishment in Australia rallied around the idiot there when the government minister rightly criticised him as if he couldn't have known. It was up to both these arrogant twits to realise the world we are currently living in, realise yes, it CAN happen to you, and to self-isolate upon developing symptoms and at least get a test before going back to work. That this idiot was in the centre of the Italian outbreak and carried on working .. ugh. This is what I was talking about a hundred pages ago with people who think they are heroes for going to work sick. You're not a hero, you're a bloody plague rat.

I went out again yesterday, to Aldi, Walmart and Dollar Tree. The crowds were normal but this time there were a few older people wearing masks. There were no disinfectant wipes to be found (but plenty of bleach left) and none of the brand of laundry soap I wanted. The lack of this one kind of detergent leaves me certain that this is the end times. Dollar Tree did look kind of apocalypse-y but I blame bad management since that one always looks like that.

Does this virus affect driving skills? I swear the last time I saw such poor driving I was going through Kentucky in the rain.

Florida man news. Heres a table for those familiar with the counties:

My uncle who is overweight with diabeetus and sleep apnea text me he caught a cold. Count me in as worried 😰
Holy shit look at that average age. Boomers literally bringing carnage of death to america.

A Brit couldn't get tested at home so they flew to Vietnam and got confirmation of being infected over there.
The article says they're Vietnamese, not British. It sounds like she caught it from another rich Viet expat in Britain (Nguyen Hong Nhung, who may or may not have nudes around) and came back to Vietnam on a private charter flight to get checked out, so not as bad as it sounds. Vietnam is a competent nation, they can be authoritarian when they need to.

Said non-emergency functions have been sent to other hospitals, even

And of fucking course if you check when he goes near the sauce you can see the parts they emptied are the PERISHABLES. I asked on the groups for anyone of madrid to corroborate and indeed they confirmed the canned food area is almost fully stocked. OI NUTTERS! READ A BOOK! I swear I needed these laughs at this point.
The total illiteracy of the populace is the thing that worries me. Here in the states they've been grabbing scented bleach rather than plain. The most popular scented bleach is 'lavender'. If the memes about this are accurate and lavender is being touted in the woo community, there could be a few repercussions. The roommate and I were speculating on additional ER pressure stemming from stupid decisions made by undereducated and desperate people.

Welp, 3 days to Dallas wedding time. Hope this doesn't become Masque of the Red Coof.
My roommate and I have been making up movies lately to capture the zeigeist.
We did have a 'Masque of the Red Flu" starring either Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos in the Vincent Price role.
But my favorite is 'Decameron 2020'- a bunch of rich shits remove themselves to a country estate, sit in a single room together with their i-phones and text each other for weeks.

This is an excellent book.

The nordics too. I can’t remember the last time I even used a banknote or coins over there. Everything is electronic, even tiny amounts. In the Uk we’ve still got quite a few cash uses (buses for example) and small shops but over there the buses don’t even take cash at all. Everything is done via phone apps or card.
Also noticeably fewer smokers.

I heard Czech, Romania, and possibly Spain will be shutting schools down. Can anyone confirm?

Can't speak about the Czechs and Romanians, here in spain schools which already have cases in them have closed and started using electronic (livestream and forums/chats) ways to teach instead of normal classes. That isn't many schools, just a handful, but most notably after the latest eruption madrid (the capital province) has closed ALL schools (of the province) up to "bachiller" (which isn't "bachellor" it's what comes before because language is weird. I think highschool is your equivalent) and vasque country (the other place that seems to be getting buttfucked, probably not due to higher infection but due to its frankly outrageously massive percentage of elderly people) has followed lead. Most of spain has the schools operating as normal so far though.

How exciting. From 1, to 2, to 6, to 11 (almost all from the north), and now we've declared our first public health state of emergency. According to the article it doesn't really change much for the people though, just that NJ's municipalities are being reorganized to contain the coronavirus more effectively.

At the place where I'm working in, I'm definitely hearing sniffles and coughs coming down the hallways. Everyone's grabbing for the hand sanitizer at the front desk, poor thing is already near-empty. There's a bathroom literally four paces away with full soap dispensers, you don't need to use up all the alcohol.

EDIT:
Almost immediately after my previous post, my cousin texted me with the news that Corona-chan scored her first blood on NJ territory.
Guy was 69 years old, had diabetes and other health issues. Like pretty much every other confirmed infectee, he was from Bergen County. Man, that place sure is taking a beating.

I asked my boss today to explain to me our company's overall plan for addressing this and protecting employees. We are a very very large company with many large assets and lots of responsibilities to the public and to our workers. Of course, given a company of this size it is pretty common for the chiefs to ignore most things that the ants say. When I asked about our preparedness, I also added the caveat that he please not minimize the issue, something he already did before when I asked about this in January... and February...

After yelling at me for accusing him of minimizing the issue, he then berated me for being such a jerk since I never brought this up to him before so how dare I point fingers. I've brought this up twice now. And I have also brought it up on other occasions with other bosses.

Then he told me that he was unable to get any work done yesterday because of the damn meeting that the bosses attended about this very issue. Why didn't I bother to look at the paperwork they just posted yesterday? Why the hell am I blaming them for lack of preparedness? He said I needed to get my head on straight and pay better attention. Then he stormed off.

Uh... I had my regular day off yesterday, dude. WTF happened in that meeting? And why wasn't that meeting a month ago?

*forgot to add, he also literally said the words "It's just a flu." But that totally isn't minimizing the situation.

Rabbi Mazuz blames pride parades for coronavirus outbreak

As the coronavirus outbreak in Israel and the world intensifies, Rabbi Meir Mazuz, who promised that the virus would not affect Israel, blamed the continuing outbreak on pride parades.

"We are strict about the words of the Torah by washing hands and the rest of the commandments," said Mazuz at the Kisei Rahamim Yeshiva on Saturday night, according to Israel Hayom.

"This pride parade is a parade against nature, and anyone who does something against nature, the one who created nature takes revenge on him," he said. "When you do things against nature, you place your hand in fire and pray that the fire doesn't burn you? It burns you! Here they are doing [something] against nature in impertinence: the pride parade. What are you proud of?"

If immigration would be a major factor in this outbreak, you should see numbers in places like Sweden soar like a kite. But thus far they don't.
Well we're up to 326 cases since my last update yesterday.

Pope is hellbent on getting priests infected.
What better way to support medical staff and volunteers than making the situation worse.

They ministered to the sick during the plague too...test of faith, something something...tl/dr they dropped dead and spread it around...pneumonic plague is spread person to person with coofs. The pope of the day sat through an Italian summer locked into his chambers and positioned between two lit braziers burning 'aromatic' herbs to keep him safe.*

I've seen nuts insisting on licking shrines and taking mass by 'tongue', as opposed to 'hand'. Should I stop worrying, step back and let Darwin go on his merry way? I would think true faith would not be shaken by consideration of others.

*Barbara Tuchman's "A Distant Mirror" is an entertaining quarantine read, the fourteenth century is really not that long ago.
