The only ones that fucked over Italy and by extension the rest of Europe was Italy itself. The virus wasn't taken seriously by Italian authorities until hospitals started becoming full of people. The only countries that have taken the virus seriously from the beginning are China and Japan. In Japan, there have been reports of infected people since early January. They took the necessary measures and precautions, coupled with their citizens exercising basic civism. The result is they're as of now one of the least affected countries, their economy isn't completely paralyzed and Japanese people can lead practically normal lives, while European countries have no choice but to enter lockdowns one after another despite only having had the virus for less than a month.
The fault here is 100% on European governments and their citizens.

Italy closed the airports to flights from China in the last week of January, while the rest of Europe blithely continued to keep theirs open and calling us paranoid. We hadn't official cases, yet. The first infected was discovered the third week of February, and the government decided to red zone the town he lived in and quarantine and test all the people he came in contact with. A friend of mine, who has a relative who lives in Germany, on 23th February wrote me that in Germany no precautions were taken, because the virus was treated as "a normal flu". and that they considered us crazy. Idem in UK and the Nederlands. The measures we took were judged disproportionate and motivated by panic. We always took this shit seriously.

Anyway, we can't leave our homes, but honestly I don't even want to leave, it's just too depressing. Today I came out of my lair to buy a newspaper, and while I was driving home I saw queues outside banks and grocery shops, because they can't allow too many people inside. As I said, depressing.

Panic buying is in full swing in Western PA. Predictably, all major chains had no toilet paper- people were trying to compensate by buying up kitchen towels and napkins instead so those are also very low. Costco had placed limits on certain goods including all paper products, bottled water, canned products, and dry products like flour, rice and sugar. Employees were enforcing this by standing guard. All carts were wiped down before being given to customers and most employees were in masks and gloves. In four separate big chain stores, paper products were gone, rice and flour were gone, fresh chicken was gone, canned products were almost gone. Most places had all checkout lines open, which is something you never see. Despite that, all lines still stretched a mile back. People were generally more tense and on edge than usual, but no fighting yet.

All day long I went to several types of stores to report back up here because dumb ass shit I have been seeing about the attitudes of people. It's not good. The best word is ignorant. They put their belief in the dumb ass media and the government about the information being correct and it is not!.

More and more stores are having difficulty stocking up because of disruption of shipping schedules. It is now hitting all of the Walley Worlds in my region. And when the stocks arrives the mob mentality immediatly goes right after the products, ripping it out of the stocker's hands.

In a 50 mile radius, there are more people where I live than there are in 5 US states put all together. I have seen the dumb ass people in my region turn into fucking Mexico/Australia/UK in their mindset. 3rd world bullshit in a 1st world population.

You do not fucking need that much bleach. TP Alcohol to get by. 5 gallons (1 cup of bleach for 5 gallons) is 20, 32 oz spray bottles of disinfectant. You are NOT going to go through 20 spray bottles a month in a standard household.

The Same goes for TP. A packet of 12 rolls of TP goes for 1 week in a standard house hold. A more very conservative method is 1 roll of TP for 2 people per day.

But people have become mindless dumb asses with some of them trying to make some money off of this. This includes price increases across the board on foodstuffs now in my region.

The people here in the US are becoming more of a danger as the virus becomes more localized. Because in this day and age the majority of people can not think for themselves and when they do try to think they think only for themselves.

Because of all of the total shit going down in my region and all of the driving done today to get a general feel on what is going on right now. I'm not going out much anymore. People are become just fucking dumb in a more dangerous level. If the virus continues and the situation deteriorates further, Theses Cunt monkey's ignorance/stupidity are going to cause major issues/violence over these simple god damn items.

It means that I'll eventually have to go armed. I've made my comments about this situation and what is happening in a major population hub. The situation has now deteriorated. I'll be now commenting on what I am going to do if and when the times comes, I'll comment when the bad things happen.

There is nothing wrong stocking up on things. I did mine slowly over a 2 month period. But it is the hoarders... the assholes... and the cunt monkeys who are panic buying are the ones making this situation far worse than they are.

I keep imagining the hoarders' homes being filled to the brim with toilet paper and Progresso soup cans.

It's unlikely that they'd have a lot of room to store six or more twelve-packs of Charmin.

I also imagine this will be heard on PBS soon: "Next on 'This Old House' - how to craft a tasteful love seat from your unused rolls of Angel Soft, and how to re-purpose those cans of lima beans that you will never eat."

They'll have more fodder for those hoarding reality shows.

I go by the assumption that a slowing of the inevitable spread will make it more manageable for the hospital system. When it peaks quicker, because nobody gives a shit, hospitals will be overwhelmed, which they will be anyway in the course of the next 3 Months. The peak is estimated (in UK/Europe) to be within 10-14 weeks. That said, I think the US is just getting started with the spread and it shouldn't be underestimated there either.

It really interests me how many of these super old things are being floated in discussion; some very old medications, too. I swear I walked by someone talking about iron lungs yesterday.

This is the tl;dr of US pandemic laws.

The federal government can do whatever the fuck it wants to anyone, including US citizens, that come in from outside the US if it has reason to believe they pose a danger. Yes. They can move you to a military base and put you under armed guard.

Within the States, the State governments can do the whole armed guard thing and they can even go so far as send the national guard to your home, cuff you and move you to a FEMA camp under armed guard.

Their is case law on this and it to this point only deals with State level actions. Basic takeaway of it all is the State must show it is acting in good faith and there is an IMMEDIATE danger to the public. If both those criteria are met your State can do pretty much anything it wants to you if it serves the interest of halting the disease.

Fucking hell and you muricans claim to be more free than europeans? Over here that shit isn't allowed until we get to sitio level, and as the name implies sitio is declared at the point at which part of the country is under enemy control (sitio literally means to be under siege)
