"Huh? Ooh shucks, turns out that could be a felony if I did it without transferring it through a dealer. Plus you have to pay them, so maybe like $30 bucks, then you'd have to pay to transfer it back to me afterwards, so there's that. Then you'd have to go through the background check which is super backlogged, so you'd have it in maybe a month?"
In my state you cant get a carry permit now at all because the state office that does the fingerprinting and paperwork is shut down. A friend of mine who works in an office full of soyboys and other sorts of leftys has been getting in to the same sorts of converations as you lately.

Stuff if defiantly starting to get weird here in new england now that the stores are bare and everything is shutting down. The police force has been running below the legally mandated staffing level now for a few years and as they get sick its only going to get worse.
The Hajji-mart I get my morning paper and coffee at is owned by an old Iraqi dude. He has his sons there with him lately and they are all wearing sidearms opencarry. I'm probibly going to switch from my normal small ankle ccw to full-boomer-mode 1911 on the belt.
With all the restrants being ordered closed and no food in the supermarkets things are going to get much more interesting quickly once all the people who did nothing to prepare wake up.

What deficiencies can arise after a long-term diet of rice and beans? Like any minerals, essential aminoacids, stuff like that?
This is from a site for vegetarians
“For example, grains such as rice typically lack the essential amino acids isoleucine and lysine, but contain methionine and tryptophan,” Giancoli says. “Beans contain isoleucine and lysine, but lack methionine and tryptophan. Therefore, together, they make a complete protein. This is also referred to as complementary proteins. Even better, they don’t have to be eaten at the same time.”
Classic vegetarian meal pairings that do add up to complete proteins are red beans and rice, corn tortillas and pinto beans, couscous and lentils, and hummus and whole wheat pita, recommends Giancoli.

Our Schools are failures, Absolute Failures.

I learned to cook from Good Eats, no really..Alton Brown taught me to cook when my school didn't.
I only know Alton Brown from his cooking/science lessons, so I have no idea if he's exceptional otherwise. But the man really had the best cooking show second only to Julia Child herself. He taught you how to cook but he also taught you the fundamental processes behind what you were doing, allowing you to easily apply your knowledge to any other recipe. The show Good Eats was and is a masterpiece. If Alton can't teach you to cook food, you should probably just stop trying.

Are you locked inside due to WuFlu? Find yourself some reruns of Good Eats and I promise you you're going to improve your cooking skills by at least one order of magnitude.

Good Eats Fan Page has transcripts of all of the episodes. They also have a shit ton of broken YouTube links to the episodes which USED to be free for everyone until someone got greedy and put a stop to that.

Really feels like China is launching a bot campaign tbh.

At least the right are sincere with their selfishness. The greedy conservatives that can afford respirators and whatnot are fully aware that they aren't good people, they're just fortunate enough to be rich. The other brand of conservative that genuinely values tight-knit community and family are going to come out strongest out of all of us, since though the state will be overwhelmed, they have a system for helping people cope and recover thats proven to work since caveman times.

Meanwhile the 'urban elite' will designate the in-group (which includes themselves no matter what) which deserves all the sympathy and support, and designate the out-group (arbitrarily the old, the rural, and the white) which should be left to die.

How long before we see riots in the cities? If LA blacks kick off I'd say they're a whole heap more justified this time than they were in the 90s.
I was expecting to see a "long, hot, summer" this year, like the one in '67 because of the RNC and DNC election year conventions, but throw in a stressed economy caused by a pandemic and divisive politics, this summer could be very interesting. *fortifications intensify*

so I have no idea if he's exceptional otherwise.
I've never seen anything that would indicate he is one of the TDS crowd, but I also have never seen him comment on anything political at all. The worst I have ever seen him is him taking the backlast against the last season of Worst Cooks a little badly (but he has outright stated it was the worst experience he has ever had on TV)

Today went to the discount grocery store, was looking for something. Was surprised to see no milk or eggs, on top of the things usually missing these days. Saw some restocking. Didn't find what I wanted.

Went by Costco, in quest of the cherry pie. Sign out front saying what they were out of. Also out of milk, among other things. No pie, but got the other things I wanted.

Guess I can somewhat see a run on certain paper and cleaning products, but milk? We have milk. Tomorrow will walk by the 7-11 and see if they have milk.

Now the SF Bay Area is being told to shelter in place. Amazing.

So, all this is happening because we have 4,680 cases out of a nation of 335 million. Oh, looking at the Chinese numbers, they have hardly gone up, but they're lying, of course.

We didn't do this for the swine flu. We don't do this for the "regular" flu. From what I have seen, few people get the WuFlu, and the vast majority who do recover.

I can only surmise President Trump and his top echelon know something about this virus that we don't in order to mandate all these measures. Believe some of them can and should be relaxed in a week or two. They'll need to be. People will need to go back to work. Just need to use common sense and good sanitary procedures.

Almost like it's being done on purpose. Dumbing down the masses to not only be generally stupider to basic common sense (let alone more serious issues), but also be increasingly reliant on public/government services because they're never taught a crumb of self-sufficiency.

There are a lot of women out there who view not being able to cook as some kind of feminist flex. This goes all the way back to when Bill Clinton was running for office and Hillary Clinton said she wasn't going to be one of those wives who "baked cookies all day." Never mind the fact that every person, regardless of sex, should pick up some cooking skills, as there are few things more important to a person's well being than what they stick into their mouth. No wonder we're such a nation of fatasses. The food you buy at a restaurant is almost guaranteed to have twice as many calories in it as the food you'd make for yourself at home, as the restaurants want you to come back in and get more food - that's why they prioritize its tastiness over it's health properties...

I keep a steady supply of rice and pasta on hand, simply because they go with everything, even prepackaged sauces/meat. You don't have to go full scratch when making every meal.

Buy one of those giant chubs of lean ground beef and you can use that to make a ton of dishes. I occasionally make a stew using 1lb of cooked ground beef, a chopped up onion, a can of vegetable beef soup, a can of cream of celery soup, and chopped up potatoes (boiled until they're soft.) Toss all of this into a casserole dish and bake for an hour. It tastes great and will feed about 4-5 people.

Being hygienic is culturally appropriating China.

Someone mentioned archiving. Here's the Chinese box video from February... I saved that one. Probably never going to forget that scream.

Oh, yes, the actions of a "civilized" "great power" that treats their people like animals and slaves. Things like this will never go away, and the CCP cannot wish them or talk them away.

"Flexing" over not knowing a skill ... My brain can't process how incredibly stupid that is.

This weekend, I had a bunch of bananas that were about to go bad (and I had neglected to freeze them). What did I do? I made banana bread out of them, and boom: Instant breakfast and snacks already prepared for this week while I'm stuck at home and probably unable to find anything I might need at the store for now. No food wasted.

And to the people freaking out over not knowing how to cook at a time like this: You can do it ... You're just pulling a hissy fit because you don't want to get off your ass and cook.

There's really no excuse in a day and age where we have information at our fingertips. At this point, if you can read, you can also cook. I'm convinced that people are just incredibly lazy and spoiled rotten.

Not that I'm happy this pandemic is happening; it fucking sucks. It sucks even more because people have become so spoiled to the point where they're panic shopping and hoarding shit which makes everything that much worse for everyone (not to mention it also fucks over the economy big time-- great recipe to start a depression, folks). This really makes me realize how good we Americans have had it for several decades. We, as a whole, have proven to be totally unprepared for any sort of hardship.

Get a rice cooker, God damn. Also Dutch oven bread is impossible to fuck up. Mix up flour, yeast, water into something vaguely dough like, let rise overnight then chuck it into a preheated Dutch oven and bake for like 20 minutes.

Everything is going on lock down here. Some remote communities are closing themselves off as a preventative measure.

I make those rice cooker pancakes. Just mix up the batter, dump it in the pot and hit cook.

I dont buy that they know anything. I'd bet they are suffering from fear of the unknown. They've seen what happened in china and what is currently happening in italy and are trying to avoid overloading the medical system, but I doubt they know of some massive spike in deaths or mysterious actual infection numbers.

Reading even the last few pages of this thread are wtf.

1. Phone screenshots not thumbnailed.
2. Copy+pasting articles despite being asked not to.
3. ZERO (0) usages of archive.li, ANYWHERE.

To be fair, I know that many have tried but end up with ridiculous queues that even the japs and bongs would scoff at atm at DisneyWorld. If it weren't shut. (Yes gasp!)

It doesn't excuse the lack of archiving in general. Many such cases of others taking flak or picking up after others.

Do it, queue it, check it or wreck it.
