There's preparedness, and there's "Dressing up as an ironic punishment monster from the Silent Hill franchise" preparedness....

Minor Britbong update:

Tescos, the largest supermarket in britain is limiting the sale of all items across the store to a max of 3 per customer. This had already begun across stores far harder hit by panic buying, but now enforced across all stores.

Operation Broadhead is likely to begin from either this weekend for the first phases (roadblocks, supporting police) and suporting the NHS. Around 10,000 are ready and a further 10,000 are being activated ready to step in.

EDIT: London is already preparing for lockdown and the government has told industry and others that Lockdown proceedures will be announced tomorrow.

Transport For London (the quasi nationally owned London transport company) is closing the Waterloo & City Line, suspending the Night Tube, reducing bus services and reducing services to every 4 minutes instead of every 1-2 minutes across the whole network for "key workers" only.

18 new cases in Poland's morning update for a grand total of 305. To reach the 1000 cases that everyone's been predicting to happen by the end of the week, we would have to more than triple our current numbers in four days. Which did happen in other countries.

Just read news of a woman who escaped quarantine and went to the local police station because she's vegetarian and the food she was provided with included sausage.

An interesting thought I had. If the Corona virus is guaranteed to hit the majority of the population (and it doesn't reinfect in the vast majority of people), then the best course of action is to intentionally infect the majority of the the populace that isn't in the danger group (ie, people under 30) segmentally one after the other so that the few complications that will arise won't flood the hospitals capacity. Though the challenge is that you need to do it so that the different groups will be divided from each other and be divided from people that are in the danger group.

WTF are you on about, there is no pattern visible on this fucking chart. Pray tell, what are some of your theories and predictions from this chart?
Uh... that the average price return on the S&P 500 12 months after a serious public health crisis is 13.6%? In the 2 cases where there was a negative return, the 2 year % of change was net positive.

Found that comforting, but I'm not rooting for the apocalypse.

The thing about that, though, is that there is no guarantee that the young people being exposed to the virus wouldn't pass it along to the high risk cases.

I think we'd still be in a crazy situation if we did this.

Yeah, there will come a point where it's safe to go out, for the majority of people who have had the virus.

That doesn't mean it's safe for the people who have not had it. Resisting that impulse after several months of quarantine will require some drastic steps by government.

Not just for the health of those who didn't get it, but in preparation for the second wave that should arrive in the Fall.

Welcome back to the wonderful bittersweet world of spain news. Today morale is lower. Not amongst the general population they're having a blast. But amongst healthcare workers. The hospital's had 2 outbreaks now (the ones I reported before) so of course people demand more protective equipment. But there's not. There's less. Because madrid took most of it like fucking feudal warlords yesterday. So you can imagine...

Worst part however comes from being less. The sweet part also comes here. On the sweet part, we got people engineering all sorts of shit to fight the shortage. Most of my work right now is being the voice of reason and telling them what can't be used. On what can for instance we got mandiles made out of garbage bags, improvised plastic screens, etc. On what can't but it still melts my heart. We recieved a cache of cloth masks from the local population. Of course I had to warn direction those can only be used for propaganda purposes and are worthless against the virus. But I also get reminded of north korea and tell them it's still a luxury in some countries.
On the bitter part we got the nurse chiefs doing some fucktarded shit. One of them put the morning masks to dry under the sun after rinsing them with running water then phoned the afternoon shift to tell them where they were and told them to grab them when they came in. Which has to be the most retarded thing I've ever heard by the by. Another one proclaimed only nurses and above needed masks and tried to get the celadores (the guys that actually MOVE THE PATIENTS THAT CAN'T MOVE THEMSELVES AROUND) to wear NOTHING! Even worse the Junta de Andalucia just sent a memmo saying filter masks need to be reserved for airborne diseases and the wuhan flu only needs surgical masks. You can imagine how that felt to the workers.

So, that's what I had to deal with since I woke up. My union contact is feeling better than yesterday actually but she droped this on my ass for 2 reasons. 1) she doesn't actually have medical or scientific studies, she got to the union from the informatic branch, she knows a lot about organization, psychology and computers, fuck all about masks. 2) I told you many unions got hit by red lung last outbreak. She's been handling everything from home, some really really aren't. So between that and the panic, her workload's been more than she would be able to handle even if she wasn't sick. But biggest chunk of what I heard her talk on the phone was people seeking ways to gtfo. One case I asked her about is a nurse that got a severely mentally challenged kid. Now, his adult brother is taking care of him, so chances of her getting a leave are close to 0. But can you blame her for being scared when she's seen 2 outbreaks in quick succession then been told to stick to the front line practically naked? I sure as shit can't. I wouldn't want to bring that shit home and my union contact (god I swear trying to reduce power level gets awkward) can't tell her to not be scared with a straight face when she's brought this shit home.

Talking about that. I still feel like shit. The rest of the household either hasn't caught it or is asymptomatic. They're taking care of the cooking, buying, and their stuff. We'd rather not get them exposed to reduce the amount of shit we pass between each other so they don't get infected.

Now, not everything is bad. After the first wave of excuse making to attempt to get leaves seems people are calming down, memes and emotional strength are coming back, and it seems people are focusing on beating the situation again. But stress was high. Therr was however one very worrying factor...

Yesterday the government promised part of our production was coming back. They said it would be here at 8 in the morning. It wasn't. Inditex said they were giving masks, every other autonomy has seen their cache, madrid has blocked Andalucia's from coming here. We have no fucking clue what the fuck they're thinking but the metapgorical bomb has been primed and launched already. It's beyone me at this point. The populace has been told by their medics madrid has as of this morning officially tried to murder us all. I don't know how they're gonna fix this. But let me say for sure. Sanchez isn't getting reelected. The PSOE is likely to end with him. And I doubt the PP will survive either. CATALONIA tried to save us and Moncloa took the aid from their hands and stole it while lying through their teeth. The cognitive dissonance of the entire situation is enough to make my head hurt... I mean more than through just corona. Now, don't take this to mean morale is low. As I explained before. We're used to the switch going into full "THE PRESIDENT'S BEING AN IDIOT AGAIN" alarm every fucking time there's a crisi and a lot of times when there's none. And andalucia is used to being the battered mule that pulls the cart known as spain. People are thinking about this productively and I've seen so many initiatives to fix the supply shortage it makes me cry a little to see people standing together like this, and the memes are still glorious. But, man, we're not forgetting this one. Not in a million generations. Hope you're having a better day. Remember, mental health IS health, get ready but don't stress, and don't forget to treat yourself and your family members.

Well my niggers and jews and retards, in the half day since I went into isolation the headache still there, cough simmering on, and my throat is feeling extra claggy so either im going into psychosomatic overdrive or I have indeed got the chinky-pox.....or a basic cold/seasonal flu

I am bombarding my body with every single old wives remedy known to man, from probiotics to honey-lemon green tea to spicy food to ice cream to a pint of water every half hour and am preparing a cauldron of chicken noodle soup for tommorow. Thus far shit aint too bad, but I am fully expecting if I have indeed been infected for shit to get nasty in the coming few days

Either way I trust my immune system to see me through this, and if not its going to go down in a blaze of cytokine glory as my white blood cells go full tony montana on the slant eyed virons swarming through my veins

EDIT: and before you ask....yes. I am going to take every step needed to boost my immune system
UPDATE: Well....gonna be honest im not feelin too bad. Went to bed with a ragin fever, a splitting headache and assorted body aches, and a really nasty dry cough. After about 12 hours asleep with a hot water bottle and a big thing of chilled water next to my bed for night sippin I awoke this morning with nary but a somewhat scratchy throat and a slight head buzz.

Knee is hurting like fuck though so...not sure whats happening there. Either way im going to continue bombarding with kefir and kimchi and keep drinking hot fluids until either this nigger virus of my nigger ass is in the grave

Also wasn't the test kits that came from China initially faulty anyways? Like the whole CDC debacle was precisely because of the error rate from NYC's first 10 people.

And then for the masks, of course they have a stockpile, alibabaman has been hoarding it since his hospitals turned into moats. Dude's probably just rerouting already ordered and manufactured masks and cbs sucked his dick for it.

You know disasters, epidemics, and wars have been very good methods for tech to advance.

Maybe 3D printing can finally advance beyond exceptional plastics and shit.

I always wanted to 3D print a fully edible carrot.

Bio3dprinters don't work on the same basis as normal 3dprinters. They use cell growth. Yes they exist and are being tested for medical purposes. 3d printing is the future either way.

Deaths in the UK now stand at 104. A rise of 33.

What's interesting is the UK and Germany are counting the dead differently. So in Germany the "underlying complication" is the registration of the main death, while the Wuhan Flu is registered as secondary.

The UK is registering Kung Flu complications as its primary cause of death.

As always UK is ultrabased. I swear UK and poland are going to become the most wealthy countries in europe when this is done. It's gonna be an interesting fucking time to be alive.

@Logical Fallacies made a post here which triggered off some political musing on my part which I decided to shitpost here instead of shitposting there.

I wonder if this crisis will finally convince the powers that be that most people don't want open borders? Then again if Brexit, Trump and the rise of populist parties didn't convince them, you have to wonder if they are convincible. Ezra Levant, not someone I'm normally a fan of, remarked that if you don't have walls at the borders, you need them somewhere else, like around your home. This is an interesting way to put it - the walls are in some sense inevitable, it's just a question of whether we want them inside the country stopping people traveling and doing stuff, or at the borders. Of course, this is classic questions where elite and regular people have a very different view.

Most people spend most of their time in one country and want to be able to move around freely and not worry about crime or excessive competition for jobs driving down their wages. Elite politicians and businesspeople are almost the opposite - they spend a lot of time traveling internationally, believe that free movement promotes economic growth by driving down unskilled wages and when they are in their home country they live in gated communities which have low crime levels because they have their own walls. And of course, by definition, elite politicians and business people are not competing with unskilled immigrants for their jobs, only with other people from their rather rarified social group which excludes both immigrants and 90% or more of the population of their home country. I suspect these people know they're incredibly privileged and that combined with a distaste for the poor of their own country makes them keen to virtue signal by letting in even poorer people from the third world.

Put that way you can see there's not all that much chance that the elites will change their view of borders. Still, perhaps they won't have to. In the Brexit debate, there was a lot of concern about how Brexit would lead to more friction as customs were imposed. Right now that seems an absurd thing to worry about given all EU external borders are being closed. You won't even notice Brexit in a world where everyone is closing their borders, with the probable exception of the US southern border which the left will never let Trump secure because they see all those illegals as future voters. Still, it demonstrates that his 'build a wall' motto wasn't all that crazy. I.e. the coronavirus lockdown is interesting because suddenly everyone is in favor of much stricter controls on international movement than either Trump or the Brexit voters were asking for.

Also for another example of the inevitability of borders Macron has threatened to ban travel from the UK unless the UK imposes the sort of strict controls on movement inside the UK as he has done in France.

Macaroni du baguette's just trying to pull the UK down with him. @DidYouJustSayThat already posted the french plan for the future and this makes it obvious that indeed it's trying to buttfuck the rest of europe in an attempt to be the least dicked by the end of this. Never trust the slimy gabacho. Not even the fanfarrones do so.

I dunno what cities do now with their homeless.😟

In spain the number of shelters has augmented but it's not enough. Hilarious part is due to aznar's bubbles we got a fuckton of empty buildings we could let them squat in. They're literally owned by the state and have no use because they were bought only to bail the banks as the bubble burst, they could easily be rehabilitated into shelters, but instead even though Vox and Podemos yet again were the voice of reason the PP and PSOE said that was unnacceptable and sent the money to temporarily habilitating other areas as shelters... no one has any fucking clue why either than some stupid belief that the property will somehow rise in price at a later date. Which spoiler alert, it fucking won't, it'll only get more ruinous without any maintenance. Yet another example of our gov being fucktarded. I swear if by the end of this Podemos and Vox winds up making an anti-stupidity alliance I'm gonna laugh my sides into mars.

Yeah, I hope this lasts... Our testing numbers are transparent and updated every 1-2 days, it's consistently been around 1500 daily tests lately. There's some odd stuff going on today that makes me wonder, but I'll only talk about that in my evening summary post when things clear up.

One of the many pieces of news I've seen today told about Spanish authorities investigating some nursing homes in Madrid that were pretty much swept clean by the virus. Can hardly imagine this happening here, really. The public would be thoroughly shocked... We're spoiled by years of serene stability.

Thing I forgot to mention last quote... It's likely your numbers get less transparent with time. This is because of the bureaucratic strain that will come with added testing as the bell curve grows. Also depending on how they're making the tests there might be a production hiccup, due to mutations every country has had to freeball this shit partially so it depends on wether or not they can even do their preferred strategy. Here's hoping they don't fuck up as much as us.

Ok hombres, assuming....

a) I actually have the bat-AIDs
b) I somehow manage to survive it despite my crippling autism

...what do yall think the first thing I should do is once my two weeks in the plague pit end?

Kill Xi Jinping. Jokes aside, treat yourself and relax.

Wut. A healthy human body has an internal temperature of about 97-98°F. How is the virus infecting in humans if it really dies at T>80°F?

That's 80F ATMOSPHERIC you crazy kiwi! Evaporation of the liquid matrix it uses as a host is what determines survival outside the body. Inside ghere's water to spare!

Yeah. It's fucking stupid to say that summer is coming so it might die down. It's summer in Australia and they are not unaffected.

That however is a better reason to distrust the 80F claim. It's not the claim I'm defending, I'm just pointing out the prior argument was bad.

Can anyone explain why the gov would tank the economy over a 2% mainly old people death rate? Even if it were young people. I'm not understanding this. There has to be more to it.

2% of the workforce dying from the virus, plus another % due to collapsed hospitals, plus the cost of caring for the patients with complications, plus the cost of treating the long term complications including increased flu fatality rates for years to come...

We need to have factories that are quickly convertible not just to medical supply production but also to weapon production. And our goal should be to completely stop dealing with China until they stop eating everything that moves and treating their people like animals. It's not even a matter of morality or disgust. It's a matter of looking at them, seeing what they're willing to do to their own, and then coming to terms with the fact that what they'll do to us is far worse.

Due the USA already got the highest military budget including a god damned DEATH SATELLITE. You don't need more weapons what you need is the balls to use them for once!

Yeah, there will come a point where it's safe to go out, for the majority of people who have had the virus.

Not just for the health of those who didn't get it, but in preparation for the second wave that should arrive in the Fall.

Well, if we can curbstomp this current wave before a second wave hits, then the second wave shouldn't be nearly as bad. I am of the firm belief that a much larger amount of people have already been exposed to the virus and just aren't coming down with symptoms, personally. If most people have already been exposed, then a second wave shouldn't be nearly as severe, especially since most people actually voluntarily stay indoors during colder months, and especially since there are no reports of any recovered patient relapsing. We should have more testing readily available by the time that second wave were to hit, too.

Also, over the past two or three days, we've heard some good and encouraging news about how so many doctors are trying to find a cure to this. Doctors have discovered that those who have recovered from the virus possess antibodies (which is ridiculously important when trying to make a vaccine), and human testing for vaccines has already started. I am aware it takes a long time for these things to get approved, but I highly believe this is a different case. I think there's going to be a lot of red tape removed to speed the creation and distribution of a vaccine. Doctors around the world are reportedly waging flat-out war against this; they're determined. I reckon the doctor who cracks this is going to be one filthy rich person (to which I'll say, "fucking GOOD"). There's definitely an incentive for the doctors to figure this out.

These next few months are going to be one hell of a bumpy ride, but the Apocalypse it is not.

EDIT: And to be frank, I think that a lot of the travel bans that Trump has placed should remain until 2021. I would like for this to be the case so that we don't get the same kind of fuckery from China during a potential second wave.
