how is this number so low? its a very easy and widely used method. you can also scale it up very easy. there are thousands of people out in the wild that have used the method plenty of times. its something every biology student has to do.

thats a major problem in the Lab. they fucked up badly and they are lucky that they didnt made tests for something realy ugly.
I don't really know the details, maybe the labs are just underequipped and understaffed. They have teams of four working in 12-hour shifts.

---

We start the day with 13 new detections, I was expecting a lot more at this point.

The world is upside down because of a fucking disease that has less than 2.5% death rate.
This is the best timeline ...
2.5% is the fatality rate for Spanish Flu, so anything in that range that actually infects large numbers is pretty serious. The current official working cfr for COVID-19 is still 3.4% as far as I'm aware, though unofficially it looks to be at 4.1%.

Anybody know what's going on with Germany's numbers? They seem fucked to me; 15,320 confirmed infected with only 44 dead compared to the UK with ~2700 confirmed and 137 dead. Are they covering up deaths?
Extremely unlikely. More likely that germany is catching more early/mild cases then the UK is catching in their testing. The simple infection of a nursing home could throw a number as low as 44 off by a wild amount.

So this is really very, very simple.

The Germans are lying and slight of handing their figures.

So while the UK is registering any death of someone with coronavirus as the primary cause of death even if they have complications, the Germans are registering any pre-existing complication as the cause of death.

So, you got hypertension? Guess what? You had a heart attack or a stroke and that killed you, not corona-chan.

The 44 dead are people with no underlying condition and thus have to be registered as actually killed by Corona.

This quirk of German statistics I've seen played out time and time again.

Most recently in a large scale public polling exercise undertaken by the various tourist/steam railways in Germany. This polling took place, coincidentally around the same time as the UK's own "Heritage Railways Association" conducted similar public polling.

The end result was, somehow, 95% of all visitors to German Tourist lines were "Enthusiasts".

95% of all visitors to the United Kingdom's Heritage Lines? Non-enthusiasts and tourists.

So why such a huge disparity? Easy, if one single family member in a group in Germany said they were an enthusiast the whole family group was registered as enthusiasts.

The UK's modelling was much more honest in its registration.

So basically, Germans lie. What a shock.

Meanwhile, in Shoreditch a mural has appeared which is going viral.

People talking about the problems in Italy, using Wuhan as an example.
1. Inadequate testing ability. Daily increase in Coronachan cases is bottlenecked by their testing of the virus, just like Wuhan. Author speculates if Italy can test 20k a day, then the daily newly infected trends will increase to 10k+.
2. Lack of medical equipment. They ran out of ICUs, and now it seems they are running out of beds, some areas have a death toll of 11%. Author speculates that if this trend in critical areas continue, we'd be able to see the natural death toll of the virus. Natural death means to just let the virus roam free, free to spread, no measures and no hospitalisation.
3. Italy lacks medical supplies. They are low on inventory and don't have any manufacturing capabilities. China can help, but it's "using water far away to put out a nearby fire" ie extremely inadequate. Also China isn't rich either.
4. Lacking medical experts. Germany is using the military and retired medical professionals, along with students. Italy hasn't done that and it likely won't help too much, they also can't expect other countries to just help (aren't they in the European fucking UNION??). Chinese ones likely can't visit either.

Who knew we'd all be wrong?

Italy wasn't even an option.

This is nasty, I hope Italy gets help for their allies...

Natural death rate seems to be at 10%+. Some areas in Italy are at 11% now, that's more than 1 in fucking 10. Coronachan is far worse than the "Spanish" Flu. SARS might as well step aside at this point, since it's far less contagious.

Not sure if real.
Some married Argentinian thot arrived from Spain, felt nasty.
She met her childhood lover.
They began fucking, adultery peruses.
Then the guy joined some party involving 20 people.
Now the entire village is in lockdown, lol.

Stop blaming bats, I think it's time for some thot patrol.

One more thing to note; the 56% percentage of California numbers came out before the social distancing order went through. A lot more people are indoors now.
Which is why Gavin Newsom was talking about the homeless getting sick and flooding hospitals. Where are the homeless going to be housed? It'll cause a problem.
California was selectively putting some homeless into camps before this all started. I think it had more to do with severe addicts than anything else, and it was a pilot program.

Regardless - they have the ability to round them up. This would probably be the best thing they could do right now, from a public health standpoint. Let's see if CA gets a spign.

China is not "a hostile foreign power" regardless of how we feel about them (or how much they should be.) And as dumb as the MSM is, it's exceptional to think they're taking their marching orders from beijing. This is a normal level of exceptionalism for them
You are right about this being a normal level of exceptionalism for the CCP.

It's just sad to see the NYT reprinting talking points from the People's Daily. Or Bloomberg. These Children of the World don't mean much to me, everything they say sounds like some foreigner shrieking because his goat can't eat the tall grass that used to stand near his mud hut. Somehow the media found a way to monetize petty bitching, which is the CCP's chief export.

I just want burgers to nuke China; literal nukes are the only way to get back at these bugmen who are intimidating other countries in need by relinquishing medical supplies if they don't suck Xi's pooh dick (who end up being lab rats instead of the promise of being a factory slaves who can "live one more day"). This is whats making me mad the most tbh, why the hell aren't countries rallying to carpet bomb their 10 day built hay stacks. /autistic screeching
Fuck China and I <3 the nation of Israel.
They steal our technology pipeline, they flood our markets with cheap shit we used to pay people to make here, they pay our universities to radicalize their children, they release bioweapons and call us incompetent when people start dying. If this isn't war, I don't know what is. And Western countries let it happen because they have money.

Nuking China would not be enough. War is about more than destroying your enemies, it's about ensuring the next generation understands their crimes so they will not be repeated. That BSL needs to be shut down.

I was in DC on 9/11 ... Not that far from the Pentagon. This feeling and dread I have for this pandemic is worse.

I think that's because of the uncertainty around it, and the fact that this affects my loved ones on a personal level as opposed to 9/11 when it affected the whole country and felt like a tragic event that was "bigger" than myself. It was easier to separate my personal life from the impact of 9/11, because it simply didn't affect me on a personal level (however, I am very much aware that 9/11 affected countless people on a personal level).
The saddest thing I ever saw was Humvees parked around the Capitol. The cordon was tight.

Getting beyond the thought of dirty bombs about to go off took years. We are back in the shit again, it didn't take long.

National Guard has been hanging out at the hospital my neighbor works at. They're setting up some kind of a station in a parking garage, optics is a concern so they taped off an entire level where they can operate without being seen. There's a military truck and the staff was asked not to take pictures.

Watching the military deployed in the US just breaks my heart. Wish people would wake up to the reality of the world around them.

The more I think about this virus and the response, the more Trump seems like FDR. He didn't ask for Pearl Harbor to happen, no matter what anyone says about getting us into the war. But he dealt with it and kept people safe. Hoping we're going to see a similar level of mobilization before it's all over, ready to buy war bonds if it comes to that.

So no legal threats and the original valve didn't cost $10,000.

A group of Italian volunteers distributed 3D-printed versions of a vital medical device — but it doesn’t appear that the original manufacturer threatened a legal crackdown.
Business Insider Italia quoted Massimo Temporelli, the Italian professor who recruited the pair, saying that the device maker threatened them with an infringement claim.
But in an interview with The Verge, Romaioli denied they’d received threats. He said the company had simply refused to release design files, forcing them to reverse-engineer the valve.
Managing director Charles Bellm issued a statement to The Verge:
Just to confirm that recent reports from Italy are totally incorrect, we were contacted at the end of last week for manufacturing details of a valve accessory but could not supply these due to medical manufacturing regulations, we have categorically not threatened to sue anyone involved. The valve is an accessory supplied as part of a CPAP Hood system which alone costs a few euros.
While earlier reporting said the original valve cost over $10,000, Fracassi also told Fast Company that this number was inaccurate.

UPDATE: Well....gonna be honest im not feelin too bad. Went to bed with a ragin fever, a splitting headache and assorted body aches, and a really nasty dry cough. After about 12 hours asleep with a hot water bottle and a big thing of chilled water next to my bed for night sippin I awoke this morning with nary but a somewhat scratchy throat and a slight head buzz.

Knee is hurting like fuck though so...not sure whats happening there. Either way im going to continue bombarding with kefir and kimchi and keep drinking hot fluids until either this nigger virus of my nigger ass is in the grave

UPDATE 2 - CORONA BOOGALOO: Feel....stuffy. Somewhat congested, somewhat claggy, and very slightly achey. Getting plenty of sleep and drinking plenty of liquid seem to be helping, and the tripple thicc homemade frogurt I have been inhaling has been extremely threaputic for my throat. I do appear to be farting like a dying nigger though, but that might just be the new batch of kimchi I have moved on to

What's happening in Italy right now breaks my heart. It's horrifying in every sense of the word. I imagine the overall attitude and morale in Italy is going to remain very somber for a very long time after this nightmare comes to pass.

That said, I don't anticipate scary numbers like that for the United States. Italy has very special circumstances that created the perfect storm for this pandemic to run completely wild and unhinged there. Also, the regular health circumstances: As I've said in this thread before, the average age of the people in Italy is about 10 years older than that of North America. Also, over a quarter of the people smoke, which definitely plays a factor in underlying conditions being horribly affected by the virus.

And this isn't just with Italy, but with all around the world: I genuinely worry about the mental health of our doctors and nurses after all of this is said and done. I remember back in February seeing a video of a doctor in Wuhan feeling so defeated that he was caught on camera literally breaking down and crying. And the stories I read about what the doctors are going through in Italy is just ... Gah. It really breaks your heart, man.

I'm not so sure. The US still has loads of old people (~70 million Americans are 60+) as well as more obese and sedentary people. ~15% of Americans still smoke cigarettes while many others smoke weed or vape. The fact that Florida has been absolutely overwhelmed by mentally deficient shit-flinging spring breakers and has yet to fully close its beaches, restaurants, salons, spas, etc. essentially means that a huge portion of their older population is going to be wiped out.

One of the only saving graces we have is that we typically don't live in multi-generational homes (grandparents, parents, children) like many Italians do, and outside of cities, dwellings are usually a bit more spread out.

But yeah, I do think we're pretty fucked, maybe not as bad as Italy but definitely still bad.

Two weeks ago, I was just a rando mope who fixed medical gizmos for a living, but today I'm a rockstar who keeps the miraculous magical ventilators that everybody is sperging about running.

Sucks. I guess I should be happy that my job is now beyond secure, and I'll be working full-time for the duration- probably even rack up lots of the OT, but I just want to be cooped up at home being a lazy fuck and shiposting on the internets like everybody else.

The hospital where I work isn't getting slammed yet, but we're scrambling to prepare for the Wubonic Plague pockyclypse. I'm even overhauling this old antique anesthesia machine that belongs in a museum, because it will work as a ventilator.

Like I'm Fred Sanford in the junk bidness over here.

Enjoy your sloth and sluggardry, quarantinearinos, I gotta get up, drink my cuppa, and trudge off to the salt mines.

I'm essential to the cause.

That's the key thing to focus on here. Italy was Murphy's Law manifested into a country for this disease. Tons of Chinks in the population via the sweatshops (thereby a massive inital vector of the virus), a very old population (the highest risk demographic), said population is infamous for smoking at all ages (extra susceptibility than normal) and as a culture they're big on physical touch for just about every aspect of social life (even greater ease of transmission).

Not to suggest that it won't get as bad elsewhere and that everyone else will be relatively fine, but they definitely had the odds heavily stacked against them by default in more ways than one.

Sorry for change of the topic and if that was discussed before - I don't have time to check 900+ pages, but anybody had logical explaination of that stupid toilet paper panic?
Soap - I understand. You wash your hands more often, you use more of it.
But why toilet paper? People shit more out of fear or what?

I'm sure it's been discussed before, but I don't know where.

My theories:

1. People are exceptional and think flu means "stomach flu."

2. Toilet paper doesn't go bad and is a necessity, so why not buy as much as you can?

3. One person decided to hoard and it started the whole world hoarding.

4. Buying a lot of something useful and mundane makes people feel more in control.

5. People think toilet paper would be scarce if the supply chain got fucked up. (But TP isn't an import in the US or Australia, so that's highly unlikely.)

Pretty sure I have it from my positive tested coworker that works 5 feet away, I’ll know in a day or two when the drive through test comes back. Even though I been following this thread since Jan, I made the mistake of thinking my office space was a safe area. Coworker was a neet that only went to work and the supermarket but had many health issues.

I’m 35 years old and don’t drink or smoke, and do cardio every day. Since last week I had what felt like a slight cold, the only difference I have had is I noticed when jogging I can’t go as long as usual. I would say I have about a 30% reduction in lung capacity. My oral temperatures have been in the 97.8 range with only one time hit 99 earlier this week. No throat irritation, might cough twice a day.

Unfortunately it appears my girlfriend is getting the symptoms now and they are a little bit worse.

Well, here are the things that Italy is dealing with that the United States isn't:

1. Italy and China have a line to each other via speed trains.

2. The Chinese population in Italy has surged big time over the past 10 years, as Italy has developed literal Chinese workshops for clothing in their country. In the midst of a recession, no less (but I digress).

3. The Silk Road project that Italy signed onto signifies their economic and business relationship to China ... Wonder why Italy was so reluctant to close its borders until things started to hit the fan, eh? Hmmmm.

I mean ... While Trump was getting backlash for the China travel ban, Italy was busy doing this to virtue signal, with full approval by the Italian government:

You consider all of this, and then take into account of all of the other things that myself and others have mentioned in this thread, and you have a unfortunately perfect recipe for devastation and tragedy, sadly.

Okay, canceling student debt is one thing, but having free college would be way too expensive in the long run. Why can’t Bernie be more sensible and promote alternatives to college? Not everyone should be going to college quite honestly.

He's a Marxist. Colleges have been repurposed as Marxist Indoctrination centers. There's a reason they want to cancel student debt and make college free. Imagine the current SJW epidemic only now instead of it being funded by these lunatics going into crippling lifelong debt, instead they go to school to learn how to be Antifa on YOUR dime.

Are we seriously going to start bitching about a potential treatment for this, now? Are we actually going to do that?

Of course we fucking are. They absolutely do not want Trump fixing this. They want this pandemic to continue until Jan 2021 when Joe Biden takes over, at which point even if there are still people dying, the virus will abruptly be forgotten by everyone in the media, other than that "Good Ol' Joe" fixed it, like all things are fixed under a Glorious Neo-Liberal Administration, or somesuch tripe.

This is the exact same thing they've done for the past 4 years. Doesn't matter what Trump does, it's WRONG and he SHOULDN'T DO IT, in fact he SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED because IT WAS HER TURN. Why would a deadly global pandemic be any different?
