Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

From what I understand they use sneaky numbers, if people had any underlying issue they say that killed them instead of wuflu. The 68 there are deaths they could find nothing else to blame for. Other countries take Wuflu as the primary COD and thus their reported numbers are bigger.
That is somewhat sensible though. If Grandpa Jimmy has Lung Cancer and can barely breath to start with and catches The China Virus, I wouldn't say it was The China Virus that killed him.

what about if you credit an assist like the sports balls do
Eh, Grandpa Jimmy would die from any disease that would cause him extra trouble breathing.

Edit : And I am not saying we shouldn't count them at all, but "People who died who also had a pre-existing condition" would be a fun number to see aside from "Deaths of Random Assholes."

I think the problem comes because a) it limits our tracking of the spread and b) is used by countries to make political hay at this time like Germany is attemting to do right now.

I hear what you're saying, but say someone has the AIDS. Then they acquire Kaposi sarcoma and succumb to that. What would you attribute the death to in that case?

It's probably even higher than that. The issues with the confirmed cases at face value are such:

1. People either too stubborn or too sick to get to hospitals/unable to get treatment
2. Governments either downplaying or trying to cover up the virus as a whole
3. Governments using a co-morbidity as the primary cause of death instead of Wuhan Flu
4. The ability to only test so many people at a given time

It's impossible to give a truly accurate number, but I'd say it's probably multiple times higher than what is confirmed.

Whoever's keeping tabs on the official infection numbers, keep an eye on exactly two weeks from today for the U.S. Today was the warmest day of the year for a lot of northeastern states; like I'm talking absolutely perfect "go out for a walk or bike ride" weather with that crisp excellent smelling Spring air. The kind of day you look forward to after the long winter because you can actually open a window without freezing.

Wouldn’t be surprised. My partner works for a major regional power utility and this is standard protocol when there are major storms, etc. Partner is currently working crazy hours in the field, haven’t seen him in days. Folks at the utility who can work at home are doing so, but there are a ton of jobs that just have to be done in the field.

Man that fucking sucks, at least he isn't working for Amazon where they'd put him in a fucking Wage Cage if it came down to it

Germany tests the most right now, and there is no massiv amount of death people beeing burned like in iran or italy.

Is Compton even on the list?

Please ... let's not resort to crude stereotypes and dated information about communities in LA, such as Compton ... or any community on the map, for that matter.

Compton is no paradise, but law enforcement has cleaned up a lot of the crime problems that were going on in the 1980's, 1990' and 2000's.

Downtown LA will likely get hit the hardest due to the homeless, apartment dwellers, and overcrowded conditions.

Please don't take this as a personal attack. I just want to throw in my 2 c. to avoid the spread of misinformation and anxiety.
A lot of you guys who's only experience urban blight is via Worldstar videos and /pol/ memes are saying some variation of "When them big city sambos gonna start chimping out? When them crazy nigs gonna burn down Compton?" But as long as government benefits are fulfilled, and store aren't completely raided, urban blacks and minorities are going to stay in doors like everyone else, or at the very least stay in their own hoods like they usually do.

The biggest issue is going to be homeless. Almost all Westcoast cities have a massive homeless population. A lot of them live on handouts. With the potential well of people who throw in a couple bucks into their begging cups almost all dried up, I can see them turning into those monkeys in Thailand, fighting over scraps. They also travel a lot, on buses or trains. They may make their way to states with less harsh quarantine measures.

I'm also waiting for the first death, the first death from someone who violated curfew and was had it out with police, because it is going to happen.

TODAY WAS STUPID OK.
It wasn't that bad.
Still drinking tonight though. 🍸
I cleared out our LCBO's stock of Captain Morgan White Rum 1.75 L bottles. Go me. *yawn*

Personal Happenings 🚶‍♂️
Security was quick and efficient.
Lots of guys still on surface this morning. Looks like the cage (elevator/lift) down into the mine is doing the whole social distancing things instead of the usual can-of-sardines method of transportation.
I still find it funny that the email notification with the flow chart I posted before was sent last night after hours, as in 7:30 PM.
The morning safety meeting got broken up into smaller groups in different areas for the purpose of social distancing. The memo went out for this after everyone left for the day yesterday, so everyone showed up to the usual spot of course. I check my work email off hours so I knew about it, but I played dumb just to see how it would turn out. I was not disappointed.
One coworker left the country on vacation and got back before Canada placed border restrictions. Was back at work a couple of days and got kicked out when the new isolation policy began.
Another coworker got turned back at security this morning for having a cough. He was honest about the symptoms portion of the interrogation. The rest of us lied, of course, like the normal sociopath humans that we are.
Several meetings throughout the day explaining last night's last minute corporate mandate email.
The long and short of things right now is that the mine can close at any time (we all know that's coming) and employees have to burn vacation time until EI kicks in if the mine shuts down.
I'm debating whether or not to theatrically *coof* Monday morning. A mandated vacation quarantine would be nice.

Alright so. I just had a skype videocall with someone I won't disclose who or why for powerlevel reasons will just say, family. And in the background, I couldn't fucking see the wall behind him, he had literally started stuffing TP packs like layers and was halfway through the second layer. This mofo ain't buying any more TP in his fucking life, when he dies his children will inherit his precious fucking TP hoard WHAT THE FUCK IS THE DEAL SOME PEOPLE HAVE WITH TOILET PAPER?! I tried asking him all he said was "better safe than sorry." I just... I have a million questions and all of them are "WHAT."

Anybody know what's going on with Germany's numbers? They seem fucked to me; 15,320 confirmed infected with only 44 dead compared to the UK with ~2700 confirmed and 137 dead. Are they covering up deaths?

Malaga's filled with dead krauts so... I'mma guess they're classifying the dead differently, sending the sick here, or both. Probably merkel's plan to save face.

The US seems to be very careful with declaring someone recovered compared to alot of other countries.

Not really. We all went through that. First the number of dead spike, then the number of recovered start catching on until they pass and keep escalating. At least until a second outbreak. Without medical collapse most of the dead die on the first days, recovered all take the whole process, hence this statistical result.

Attracting illegal immigrants to fight an outbreak.

All I see are reasons to start kicking all illegals the fuck out ASAP. Let the purges commence!

This virus didn't come from bats. Came from the Wuhan Biological Warfare facility.

Need to reiterate something. Spent over three years in Korea, two different occasions, mid-70s to early 80s, when Korea was still somewhat rough. Lived downtown almost the entire time. Often went, just like the thousands of Americans at the adjacent US air base, to the downtown open-air/partially covered market. Not the cleanest place in the world. Sold all sorts of things to eat, including dogs. Bats, I don't know about. I just bought fruit and bottled soda. Worst thing I ever had from going to the market was a slight case of the shits the first time eating an Asian pear. Got over that, good to go.

If there had been any respiratory illnesses coming from that market, the base would have put it off-limits in a heartbeat. Didn't happen. These markets were all over Korea, and there were a lot of US bases in Korea at the time.

Going back to the root problems here, the CCP knew about the virus but said nothing. The CCP's been lying about this from the get-go. They actively repressed doctors pointing out concerns. Millions of people left Wuhan to go throughout the country for the Lunar New Year. Thousands and thousands of Chinese were allowed to travel overseas. The Chinese have no primary care system. Everyone goes to the hospital. We saw what happened. The CCP imposed draconian lockdown conditions on the residents of Wuhan, and am sure other places. The CCP says things are improving. Propaganda. Believe the true numbers of sick and dead are multiples of what the CCP claim.
The CCP has given the world the "gift" of the Chinese virus. In view of the havoc this virus has caused worldwide, once again say it isn't that much of a stretch to say the CCP has committed an act of war against the whole world.

Oh, please keep in mind the Chinese consider anyone who isn't Chinese to be a barbarian. The Chinese character for China means "middle". China is in the middle and the rest of the world doesn't count. Matter of fact, China used to be known as the "Middle Kingdom".

Short-term, the CCP has long since lost the propaganda war on this one. WAY too many video clips on the Internet that will never go away.

The CCP has shown us (a) the utter stupidity of putting so many manufacturing and supply eggs in one basket (b) the hazards inherent in "just-in-time" parts inventory when there is an overly long supply chain and (c) that China is not a great power, and under the CCP will never be a great power.

Long-term, believe the CCP will have problems. Foreign manufacturers will either leave China entirely or move most production out of the country. Foreign concerns will be looking for second sources of materials formerly from China, and/or rework their products to use little or none of certain Chinese materials. Chinese students may be kicked out of foreign colleges.

Having said all that, we're going to get through this. People are working together, sometimes grudgingly. But they are working together. We'll bitch, we'll complain, we may have to sacrifice some, but the USA is resilient.

Remember, do not take counsel of your fears. Just keep on keeping on. Be strong for those who need you and depend on you. You might be all they have. Take it one day at a time. Never quit. Never give up. I just keep on trucking. So should we all.

The market is the one thing we'll always disagree in. Epidemiology has always considered markets as outbreak centers I have no clue why south korea might be any different or the army would do it differently. I do know why markets usually don't close. Namely that people need food. But areas with other sources of food do tend to close them and those without or in which the market is too important are always blasting them with restrictions, extra vigilance and cleaning, and all sorts of protocols. At least here in europe, and yes I mean all of europe it's even in the international regulation stuff. This isn't just my freak of a country being weird.

So will Spain and France end up like this I wonder?

Spain right now mostly depends on the malaga outbreak and any possible other turist related shit. At least until quarantine's done. But I know that despite shortages and politishit the malaga outbreak IS under control. We're great at doing shit unofficialy, much like ISCIII started the protocol in december while not even warning us until mid february and not doing it officially until march. So shit's mostly OK. And we don't have nearly as many dumbasses breaking quarantine so far. So I'd say probably not.

As for france... I'm surprised they haven't surrendered yet.

And now we're going to try to convince everyone that Chloroquine is some sort of murder-drug even though thousands upon thousands of people take it every single day in the form of Hydroxychloroquine/Plaquenil as an immunosuppressive and anti-parasite drug. Yes, drugs can be lethal or even fatal if taken way above the prescribed amount. Thank you for being so helpful.
Quick, nobody tell the fuckers at Bloomberg what happens when you take too many Tylenol. They'll shit their collective pants!
