They are closer to the truth than most other christians. Its about success not material wealth and you dont show proof that you are chosen by god that way.
You show the glory of the lord with your work and success. Its not about getting rich fast, its about hard work.
The problem with those megachurches is that they allow everybody, no black, no dogs no Irish should be on a sign infront of every church.

The “prosperity gospel” heresy exists because hustlers prey on the religious, and the poor don’t tithe well.
Mark 12: 41-44:
“41 He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. 43 Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44 For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
Moreover, if wealth is a blessing for following Christ, then the poor can be dismissed as having somehow displeased Christ, as evidence by his having “withheld the blessing” of material riches. The association of poverty with poor moral character, and the “prosperity” heretics directly correlating it as a punishment for lack of Christian practice, is both utterly against the teachings of the Gospels and hugely corrosive in a religious society such as the US.
Luke 6: 20-26

for yours is the kingdom of God.

for you will be filled.
“Blessed are you who weep now,
