Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

The history is something one is well advised to take advice from - mostly to avoid the mistakes of your ancestors, but also to learn from their wisdom. Take the gold rush for example - people, who got rich were not the ones panning the gold, but ones selling them their tools - pots, pans and shovels.
With the Chink airborne Aids upon us, many businesses have wisely boarded up their stores, with stock inside them.

beverly_hills_boarded_up.jpg

Feel free to search twitter for "boarded up" for more examples. Why would a business board up their store unless there was a real danger of it getting looted? Boarding up stores is not free, it costs money - it costs money to install, it costs money to remove and it costs time to arrange the removal.

Now, the urban gentlemen will be looting these locations shortly and they will be needing tools for cracking these prizes open - an enterprising person may make a pretty bundle by hoarding all the crowbars, wheelbarrows and ski masks right now, so they could sell them to the people participating in this coming gold rush at a hefty premium.

All the articles i see are bashing herd immunity, but i dont see any other way cases go down.

Everyone is going to get kissed by Corona eventually. Either this year or next year. The problem is the hospital system can't handle everyone getting the disease all at once. Its why getting a mass produced anti-body test done is so important. We need to know who has already gotten it and developed immunity so they can go back to work, and who needs to continue to exercise caution.

A short update from my small hole in the US.

My neighbor is a physical therapist who works at a hospital. She's been repurposed into a support role for clinicians during this period. We talk from a distance as things play out.

Her hospital got their first 2 cases on Wednesday. The place lit up with panic, nurses were crying in the hallways, the people who run the morgue started calling out sick, the canteen shut down for everything but bottled and prepackaged items. It got so bad the Clinical Chairs already banned the use of personal cell phones on premises because everyone was constantly messaging their families to tell them what's happening.

The hospital has a supply of the malaria drug, many people have been taking it as a preventative. She said it made her constipated and gave her cotton mouth, said she felt a little hung over after starting on it but feels fine now. She doesn't know for sure but believes both patients were given the drug, one left the hospital the same day and the other is in isolation. She seems convinced it's effective when given early.

The one thing they don't have a lot of is hand sanitizer. The hospital sent much of their supply to New York a week ago and they haven't received a resupply. Part of her job right now is sourcing more, she's afraid they will run out before May.

No new cases since Wednesday. She says the mood is dire and the entire staff is terrified. She's a liberal and thinks the panic is overblown, people are so scared they're not doing their job. She doesn't know what will happen if the number of cases escalates.

Its a real tragedy how emotionally fragile people are these days. Healthcare Workers need to start getting into the same mentality of a soldier about to go outside the wire on patrol. Yeah, you could catch a bullet but you probably won't. And you gotta do your job, so get to marching.

Sermo have published their study, including their methodology, for anyone interested.

People have brought up good points lately. Has South Korea or Japan done these stay-at-home orders? Have they shut down the economy?

It seems like shits been going great conparitively in the other asian countries. They learned from SARS how to deal with china flus
Both have had SOME orders. SK has had school closures and some social distancing. There's talk about Gyms being close and a curfew which has been so so implemented. There is economic pressure being experienced by eateries and other such places. Oh yeah - and BTS/Kpop Stars have had to cancel a bunch of tours and they were forecast to bring a shit ton of money into the country. Their Kpopconomy has taken a mild hit. Shopping in physical stores is down a bit.
There absolutely has been nothing in the order of what the US or even worse - Australia, has done.

Japan has had some shut downs and is advising residents to stay at home as much as possible, but it seems to be more focused on Tokyo and Osaka, but there's economic fall out in Japan - people have lost jobs and eateries are struggling.
Also recruiting for new jobs with companies in both countries is down.

I believe SK is forecast to have a 7% shrinking of their economy. Not sure about Japan coz they're in limbo atm.

I've heard that there was a concerted effort on social media to convince black people that they are immune to the virus. Especially in South Africa, where a large proportion of the blacks are already infected with HIV, certain elements are trying to convince the blacks to take no precautions because the spread of the virus there has the potential to significantly alter the demographics of the country into a very favorable state for the survival of the white population.
In my neck of the woods "blacks are immune" was a popular sentiment until about a week ago. In my state the first people who were hit were mostly wealthy white people who travel a lot and/or commute between NYC. Of course those people end up spreading it and now I think people realize anyone can get it. Many of my black coworkers have family in the Bronx and Queens too, and there are a lot of blacks being hospitalized there so it started to put the fear of God into them finally.

Connecticut also had that 7 week old baby who died so pretty much everyone is freaking out now. I don't find it surprising that a newborn would be susceptible to this, but it's still really horrifying and I think it made people realize just how grave this is.

Current situation in Sweden:

6000+ confirmed cases. 350 dead.

What we basically have now is a continuous "danger zone" consisting of the Stockholm, Sörmland and Östergötland counties. In all of these, more than 1/1000 inhabitants are infected. This area have almost 75% of all deaths so far.

In other parts of the country the situation looks signficantly better.

That, and the pioneers of Usenet and IRC.
Napster created the economic impulse for bandwidth and storage.
I recall in the late 90's waiting 2 days for one three minute song, and watching porn images build pixel by pixel with My smoking fast 56k modem.

Edit: Double post avoidance.

There really is no middle ground between "it's just the flu bro" and "WE'RE ALL GOING TO FUCKING DIE AND IT'S ALL DRUMPF'S FAULT!!!", is there?

Mark my words - the left can not afford for the coronavirus to slow down. They will not budge from the doomsday position from here on out. They've gone so extreme it makes the right look like they hold the "It's just a flu bro" opinion.
They know they're taking a chance with this position but as of right now Corona-Chan is kicking our ass and the normies are in fear.

Jim in one of his streams made a good point - in the beginning, the left said this was a nothing burger. They took that stance because the CCP and WHO told them it was going to a nothing burger. And they have much more respect for the Chinese Communist Party than Trump. They believed them and it helped their social justice narrative. Remember the "Hug a sad Asian to prove you're not racist!" shit they pulled in January and February? They said, "Go to the Chinese parties and use those fucking buses, you bigot. Go to Chinatown now and let that China man cough on you - you dare practice social distancing, racist?!?"

But when it got too obvious that we were fucked, they had no choice but to become dooms day sayers. The best political move to make for them was to go to the very extreme because they need to take a stance that proves them right. There can't be an in between because being right helps their party more than anything right now. You think they forgot all about this upcoming election? This is why when Trump tried to bring just a bit of hope and optimism two weeks ago, he was shut down by them.

Their party is in the shitter. Being right about Corona-Chan is the ONE thing that may save their asses in November. It doesn't matter that they thought it was a nothing burger in the beginning. Trump said the flu was worse in February and they will always use that against him.

Unfortunately for us, this makes it so much harder to know how bad this thing really is. An extremely deadly and mass killing Corona-Chan is a version the left is using because, at this moment, there really are no negatives to using it in that form for them.

United Nations wants 10% of entire planet’s annual income in fund for coronavirus response

Oh yeah ?

Really now ?

View attachment 1213724

Fuck that you piece of shit, the WHO and the UN Actually let it all happen by mishandling every fucking thing from A to Z and you would want these piece of shit to handle anything ?

At least the article keep it real :

"United Nations and World Health Organization helped to create the pandemic, says expert Steven Mosher, president of the Population Research Institute, noted that the UN’s World Health Organization (WHO) helped to create the pandemic by repeating communist Chinese government’s false propaganda denying the health risks of COVID-19, and said he was against giving them or the UN in general any additional money for the crisis."

The UN and WHO should be considered China's millitary operatives, look at what the UN handled China on a silver plate in south Africa in terms of rare earth these past 50 - 70 years of operation down there and all the report of women and child abuse / rape the UN soldiers have been charged by the past, it's hundred of complaints and a lot of them have gone through and have been proven !

Rate me mad but This is a RACKET on the WORLD as if they weren't part of this shit and shouldn't be , FOR THEIR OWN GOOD doing something for their own safety. THIS IS HOW A MAFIA OPERATES "gimme money and i'll protect you, not like i created the situation you are in.

HOLY SHIT ! FUCK EM !

Talk about giving a shotgun to a toddler to shoot a bee in the dark in front of a row of puppies.

High. Treason. The UN doesn't need money. It needs to be dealt with in the same way as their ancestors: a gas chamber.

Scientific Consensus:
>Has ample evidence of surface survival.
1 German Family:
>Cleans their home religiously as ordered by their government.
1 German Scientist:
>Sees that 1 house is clean.
>Inmediately assumes scientific consensus is wrong.

I swear this might as well be a stereotyped german cartoon. The onion is gonna sue reality.

One of Norway's largest news papers wrote an article about some of the faulty or poor quality masks and tests and such countries had been getting from China (Link, behind a paywall). China's embassy in Norway apparently wasn't too happy, and directed a pretty angry Facebook post directly to the main author himself:

I think the conclusion says enough:

Well spanish officials and press have today started the expansion of factories for ventilators, meds and PPE expressely started the call that once we pass the curve we need to start exporting it en masse to aid our economic allies, and I'm fairly sure Italy's doing the same as things get better over there. Specially as they're gonna need political pressure to get those coronabux. So I'd tell those filthy humanoid roaches that flies don't enter closed mouths, and they're about to get a lesson or two in humility.

Instead of a gas chamber, let's go with something who's worse than death. Public humiliation is sometimes more painful mentally than death like having them on a dunking stool.

Along with throwing on their faces tomatoes and/or pies cream and let's drop them in a remote place somewhere in South Chicago or Ferguson at night alone.

Free meals for any New Yorker, but you have to go and get them. It has to be better than those rice cups @Feline Supremacist was showing us the other day, right?

arent those danger zones anyway?

Well the article is from the daily mail...
the real story is a bit different, there is a big study running in the first german corona cluster, and the leading scientist was on TV talking about some findings.
the first findings from the study suggest that infection is unlikely to happen in most places that are now closed. european clusters are formed around singular events like partys or football games.
And he isnt just some scientist, he has a pretty good resume.
the scientific consensus is mostly formed around some minor evidence, there wasnt a real study before.
Its pretty much like climate change, the consensus is formed with deeply flawed models as base. thats why all predictions fail all the time in that field, while other things are changing nobody talked about before.

At least that makes more sense. But since we're having supermarket spread despite enforced separation here in spain and from what I've seen on both hospital outbreaks, I'd call bullshit anyway. Even the cooks got infected. The kitchen has separate airflow it has to have been from surface contact in the elevator. (We're segregating people on the elevator to avoid contagion)

Seems that Walmart is going to try to ban selling "non-essential" items like garden supplies, including seeds. It's April. This will not go over well.

Edit - so far it's only happening in Vermont. Note to other Walmart stores - this is a bad idea. Don't do that.
