Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

It's interesting how Trump handled the Crozier/Modly spat

Couldn't put it better myself really. Crozier screwed up by circulating the letter outside the chain of command but 'he'd had a bad day'. Trump wouldn't have fired Modly but he did commend him for his 'really unselfish act' in stepping down.

USNI article with captures of all the resignation letters

https://web.archive.org/save/https:...ignation-amidst-carrier-roosevelt-controversy

This is actually a really interesting situation - those sailors applauding Crozier seemed to imply that, horror of horrors, a mutiny wasn't out of the question. Clearly, Modly had to go. Especially after this speech.

They should do some Starship Troopers shit like have Modly's replacement bust Crozier down to private for leaking the letter and tipping the Bugs off to a possible military weakness but then putting him back in charge of the ship because he's shown he cares about his men. Which, looking at it, means they'd have to make him a Captain again.

No, a mutiny wouldn't have happened. There have been some very toxic commanders of US Navy vessels, but no mutinies. What happens is crew members start filing complaints with the Inspector General or sending complaints to their Congressperson/Senator. "Congressionals" get a lot of attention by the top brass. Investigation is held and commander is relieved of duty. Navy relieves more ship commanders than might be thought, for a number of reasons.

In the US military officers are not demoted. Acts that might warrant demotion are normally offenses under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). If convicted, instead of demotion, an officer can be dismissed from the service, in addition to going to prison. Dismissal also means a dishonorable discharge. There could be other punishments, including a sentence of no punishment. All depends on the individual case. Oh, private isn't a Navy rank, that's a ground forces rank.

My guess - there will be an investigation into all of this. Captain Crozier will retire. No UCMJ action. But Modly needed to go. He was no leader, just a boss who was an inconsiderate asshole. One primary tenet of leadership, least as I carried it out on active duty, is treating everyone with courtesy and respect. Modly's rant and rave was the exact opposite. If you need to get on someone, you do it in private, and you sure as hell don't launch a profanity-filled rant at the crew. trying to tear down a very well-liked former skipper. Your public addresses need to be the kind that get people pumped up, not piss them off royally. Not difficult to do.

Most assholes have to work pretty hard at being assholes. So much easier, and so much less work, to treat everyone with courtesy and respect, and deal with the shitheads by exception.

Just FYI...
Null's won 5 lawsuits without even responding to them, the PM of the UK is dying, and now Fredrick is fucked?
Kay is still alive and making bingo-worthy recipes and all of the deathfats are still going strong.

I'm starting to believe we only exist in @Null's imagination and the only reason he's having trouble with the payment processor is because he thought life was too easy and wanted to give himself a challenge. We're living in the Matrix inside Josh's head, people, I swear to god.

Went around a bit yesterday.

Local Winco was well stocked. However, EVERYONE had a mask, even though many of them were homemade or scarfs and the like. Vastly different feel than a few weeks ago when I last went. Every one felt... scared. Spooked. People would turn the corner, see someone and visibly recoil until there was about 10 feet distance.

Paper was still hit and miss, mostly miss. Still no disinfectant spray or wipes. Nothing else was of issue that I recall -- I just grabbed more pasta and some more meat, and some bags of frozen mixed veg -- not the kind I like to get, but, mixed veg is mixed veg. Got a pretty good stockpile now.

Stopped in at a few other places -- got the first start of a victory garden once things warm up a little bit more. Is there a good place online to buy shit like tomato plants and the like?

Locals are suggesting this might be over in May. They're insane. I'm planning on sheltering in place until at least August, if not later. I know a second wave coming when I see one.

@Joseph Stalin assuming malice is behind the lockdowns is unwise. The WHO is plenty malicious. But the lockdowns aren't, not for most countries. Although some of the people pushing for them are. Thing is, in high density areas they are NEEDED to keep the healthcare system from overloading, and the same goes for areas with insufficient healthcare systems. Issue is they're being horridly misapplied to areas that don't need them and certain assholes are trying to turn them into a tool against Trump and Japan, but it's not about keeping people down or treating them like animals. As always, it's about idiots misapplying treatments and blaming other people for their woes without caring about the truth. As they say, no words are scarier than "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

This guy didn't wear the fucking tinfoil, he sniffed it, smoked it and shot it straight to his veins with a needle. Jesus H Christ almighty. Most of what he talked about was just regular bureaucratic fuckups. As for taking the PPE. I fucking wish my gov had temporarily nationalized this shit back when it was necessary but they were too busy screeching about comunism until it was too late because they're fucking idiots.

I hear you. Problem in the USA is that one size doesn't fit all. Rationally, you lock down the areas with the highest number of cases, plus a buffer zone, and leave the other areas to go about their business. Here, entire states are locked down, supposedly including rural areas, which will ignore their house arrest. And there are nine US states that will not put their people under house arrest.

These lockdowns are turning political instead of health-related. Seeing people ticketed for taking a drive by themselves. Judges are making people whose only "offense" is getting sick with the ChiCom Flu wear GPS tracking ankle bracelets, such as convicted criminals wear. At least one town has imposed a curfew on everyone - gotta stay inside at night unless you have a reason.

Americans aren't real good at letting others tell them what to do. The present system of house arrests makes no sense except to cover politicians' asses. They don't care. They do as they please, and maybe get stopped in court later. They consider themselves the public's masters rather than their servants. Pushback's already starting. Expect it to get much worse. These politicians need to rethink their abusive policies and back off. Focus on the real problem areas and let everyone else start living their lives again.

"They" like to say, "we're all in this together". No. As usual, it's "us" versus "them".

You really think Shelter-in-place orders will be respected for that long, eh? That is blindly optimistic. From mental health, to financial stress, to a dislike of being told what to do, the orders will not last that long. Human beings were not meant to live in the pods and eat the bugs. As the weather warms up, more people will continue to violate the orders, and in larger numbers, and eventually larger businesses are going to reopen in spite of the state because money talks.

You should also consider: this may already be the second wave. The cough-that-was-not-a-flu was eerily similar to coronavirus, and was spreading since august 2019. If that turns out to be corona 1.0, this would already be the second wave in full swing. We wont know until we get antibody tests in wide use and determine how long the body remains immune.

And we already have spanish cars.
Seat is owned by VW and is mostly using older tech in a more south european friendly outfit.
Nationalize it and destroy all worth of Seat. VW has another brand for older Tech, and they look pretty good compared with Seat. Also sporty cars for poor people are not realy in the trend anyway.

Guns got me though. HK is tol damn classy, the others better step up their game if they want our money, the G36 and MP5 look too damned good to pass.
Its very easy, if you want effective weapons, buy german. or suffer like the new Spanish Sub thats to fat to swim and so loud that you can detect it with your ears.

PSA. How to see if you or someone else has requires hospitalization. You need a pulse oximeter and a thermometer.

Basically see if you have a 'chill, sore throat or a cough'. Check your SpO2 using a pulse oximeter. Check if you have a fever using a thermometer. If your SpO2 is at or under 93% and your temperature is over 37.3°C you should go to a hospital.

The figures here are a bit different.

The researchers found that some signs and symptoms were more common in patients who turned out to have pneumonia. These were a temperature higher than 37.8°C, a crackling sound in the patient’s lungs, a pulse rate of more than 100 beats per minute, and oxygen saturation in the blood lower than 95%. They found that 86.1% of patients with pneumonia exhibited at least one of these signs.

Mind you if your heart rate is over 100 you should have over 95% Sp02 because at that point your heart is pumping a lot of blood through your lungs in an attempt to try to keep it oxygenated. The normal range for resting heart rate is 60-100 and my resting heart rate is towards the bottom end of that. If your resting heart rate is over 100 and your SpO2 is under 95% you've got problems.

The fact that Chinese paper quotes 93% makes me wonder if they're pushing the minimum down to try to avoid diagnosing people. Most Western sources seem to agree that >95% is normal. Then again their temperature minimum for diagnosis is 37.3°C versus 37.8°C for the other source. I guess it's just slightly fuzzy data. I'd say check baseline levels and then see if they get worse.

Guns got me though. HK is tol damn classy, the others better step up their game if they want our money, the G36 and MP5 look too damned good to pass.

A lot of countries make HK guns under license. E.g. the MP5

https://web.archive.org/web/20200312010410/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_&_Koch_MP5#Manufacturers

The G36 is license-built in Spain

https://web.archive.org/web/2020032...ipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_&_Koch_G36#Production

In July 1998, it was announced that the G36 had been selected as the standard rifle for the Spanish Armed Forces, replacing the 5.56 mm CETME Model L and LC rifles.[5] Deliveries first took place at the end of 1999. From 1999 to 2005, 75,219 of these rifles were manufactured in Spain under license by General Dynamics Santa Bárbara Sistemas at the FACOR (Fábrica de Armas de la Coruña) facility, in Coruña, Galicia.

You don't need Germany. For anything.

Shit is following apart. Navy pissed. Trump fired inspector general whose over seeing the stimulus. Honestly feels like trump is doing a power grab, he's pulling a Cesar as people are detracted by the pandemic and the depression. And the DNC is running a man with dementia. I bet he picks hillary for vp and if he wins I bet 18 months in the 25th will be invoked and hillary will be president.

Its still better than our last sub. We never managed to get that one to come back up after we sunk it.

I'll do it tomorrow it's too damn late.

Jokes aside. We already deal with everyone anyway and have strong alternatives to german trade for everything worth a shit. And if there's one thing spain is good at is surviving. Fuck this are record numbers for job destruction yet we're not even close to the unemployment rates from when my mom was a teen. You may think you can punish us. But we can endure a lot worse than you can dish out. Life's already fucked us enough times to remember bringing lube. And right now most of the country would be happy if they told us conscription's back on the menu and we're being sent to plant trump's wall in Berlin. So you'd do well in fearing how far we'll go before your leaders realize we may not bark a lot but we sure can bite.

People keep saying Trump's doing power grabs for firing stupid people

Something he literally was given a TV show for because he does it so much

Somehow I don't think anyone in the US really knows what a power grab is. Wake me when he suspends congress and has Pelosi and Acosta thrown in jail for sedition.

There are plenty of things without an alternative to german goods. you think rich guys will start driving lexus instead of S-class? or factories buying british machines instead of german?
There is just no alternative, and it doesnt realy matter if you stay in the EU or not. we can dump our currency with greece and belgium.

99.03 temp isn't considered a temperature. A healthcare worker would not look twice at 99.03 oral temp. He should take a drink of water, or turn on his AC. Frederick is being dramatic.

Just wait until the nurse who doesn't speak English very well somehow switches the thermometer to Kelvin (I have no idea why this is an option.)

he hab feber of 300 degree

WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made a terrorist threat against United States of America. Tedros, who is not even a real doctor, is head of WHO, and he was instrumental in getting the world infected on behest of his masters in China.

Today Tedros went on camera and threatened people, who have been demanding his removal with "more body bags". Why is this terrorist already not in Guantanamo, getting his nipples electrocuted?
Whoa dude let’s just calm down here and take a step back from this silly defunding idea, everything’s cool, just chill out, simmer down, just relax bro, everything’s cool, ok?

Nah, the US needs to take all their money back.
So does the UK
So does every country in the EU
So does every nation that isn't sucking China's cock.

Let's see how long the WHO praises China for doing a great job when they lose 90% of their funding.
