The discrimination that is being held against them is created by people who malinger DID and the therapists who enable them. I can’t think of any other disorder that’s rise to notoriety was caused by debunked cases, Sybil, Michelle Remembers, the Satanic Panic, Patricia Burgus, etc. Additionally, the fantasy presentation of the cases you see online is what gives DID its discrimination. The whole idea of DID is that it's what the child needs to survive. So yes, alters of different races, genders, etc can form, but only because it's what the child 'needs'. MultiplicityAndMe is one of the few online cases I believe because you can see how the differences were needed. All her alters are boys because she feels if she had been a boy she wouldn't have gone through what she did. Excellent representation of this theory.
Cases with different races are common in protectors because a child may view a person who is a different race to be 'tougher' than they are. I'm sure this would be seen as racism by some morons out there. There can be cases where a child feels rejected as their own race and wishes they were part of another one. Cases where a child is the minority in their school, household, or community and bullied for it may present like this. There are some systems with alters who may have been modeled after children's book characters or fantasy concepts. It's because they saw themselves as stronger with them. However, these are not common.
Introjects were a concept that was introduced with the Satanic Panic where people claimed to have their DID be 'programmed' into them. They said that their programmers would put copies of themselves in the system to reinforce it. There was the Alice in Wonderland program where they'd put themes from that story. Then you have the whole 'the Illuminati controls everything' crowd who said that common themes from Disney Films and other pop culture references were installed as programming too (you can find out a lot more about all this on the Deprogramming Wiki which is run by a so called cult survivor).
It's funny because in cases of identity disturbance we see a lot of idolization. Because of this, a person will try to conform themselves to be just like the people (or concepts) they are attached to. This is why we see middle schoolers imitating their favorite characters or whatever they're into. They don't have that identity yet so they're trying to cling on to something else. This is also a contributor to the rise of otherkin culture and MOGAI genders. I can easily see how this can occur in cases of malingering DID.
These dramatic and fantasized representations of DID are widespread online whereas they only account from somewhere between 6% to 8% of real cases. A difference in age and sometimes gender can be common, but a wide variety of species, race, fantasy, objects, and 'fictive' alters are not. It's seeing all this that makes professionals and any sane person doubt this disorder's very existence.
