Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Already said this before, but you're calling ISWV as a whole what is actually just a small part of ISWV.
This is a fair point. It’s just kind of sad that the most visible members of the movement have ended up where they’re at. And there are many ISWV who follow these people and regurgitate their talking points. Rekieta is the only one worth listening to any more, I don’t even view him as ISWV. This doesn’t even touch on small studios apparently using Vic’s name to line their pockets under false pretenses.

You could do a Venn diagram of all of the ISWV identities, out Vic & Nick on either side of the middle orbs and then go from there.

We can all acknowledge that if Nick hadn’t got involved, then the GFM would not have gone anywhere near the levels it has. Nick has the ability to unify the masses. But Nick is also the reason why the defendants have hit defcon sperg.

Without the insanity that the GFM reached, there is no way that orbiters such as TUG, HH, YF would have continued, especially in those early months.

Then there are all the clingers on. People who built an audience or following due to all of the weeb wars shit. Whether it be Shane, Dom Skye, Sushi, FS, T Greg, they all latched onto this controversy and Are trying to tard cum it for their own gains.

KV & ISWV are two sides of the same exceptional coin.
Unless there were back channel activities between Vic, Ty, and Nick, from what I can tell, TUG, HH, YF are responsible for peaking Nicks interest in the situation. Nick seemed genuinely unaware of the issue upon first being contacted by TUG & YF. So Nick being involved and the GFM being in his hands, was some mix of deliberate and luck thanks to TUG, HH, & YF.

Say what you will about their motives but at that time they weren't technically orbiters.. There's a reason Vic & Ty act grateful to TUG & YF. After this became about the court case and less about social media, their importance faded and I guess you could call them orbiters.

Meh, I keep checking back here hoping some of the main players have done some bs, but it's always some random ass lol cow.

I feel it's become way too routine for me to check back here and see nothing.

Due to the Corona Lockdown, most of the main players are not doing much.
The notable exception is Ron, who keeps sending Nick DMs aka Ronversations.

So, this slipped under everyone's radar:
Scott Barretto is no longer the Head of Public Relations at Funimation:

I am conflicted.

On the one hand, the sooner Funimations is wiped out, the sooner this is all over.

On the other, I want them to twist the knife in Sabat for all this bullshit by making him cut Funimation apart piece by piece.

Not that Barretto was important or anything. He was probably quickly replaced.

Can someone give me the 411 on the merger? When did it occur? Which companies were involved? I know Funimation had a shitload of NYC and CA job postings a few months back which was interesting, (having seen a few of my clients go through them that's the biggest warning sign for a post-merger purge), and I know a lot of people were pointing out that Aniplex already has a perfectly good US branch and is also owned by Sony (so there's a lot of redundant people)...

Didn't realize anything had officially happened. Only thing I saw mentioned for sure was some European project Funimation is involved with.

They are being combined with France's Wakanim and Australia's Madman Anime Group.

Aniplex and Sony Television owns the whole thing.

It seems to be an on going thing right now.

It was Cody from Anime Outsiders who alerted Nick to the situation. It’s likely Tug and YF got interested in this due to Nick’s interest, no idea about Hero Hei. As I recall YF very first video about it went something like “lol another celebrity who thinks he can get away with anything” but as he looked into it more he realized there were problems. YF then alerted Tug you might want to look into this, it’s bullshit. Sometime later I believe Tug arranged for Hero Hei and Senpaishome to partake in a livestream because he had seen some of their videos covering the situation and appreciated their work.

Ah, I had heard about that and thought it was just something they were being put partially in charge of. If they're scuttling Funimation's US stuff to make them... some sort of Mexico / EU / whatnot anime publisher, that's certainly a happening. Do we have any information on this other than that article from September?

Doing a search for Funimation Wakanim Madman gets the Funi version of the PR page:

Doing a bit of research for... Madman:

AnimeLab is a video on demand service that specialises in the online streaming and simulcasting of Japanese anime series, serving the Australian and New Zealand market.[28]
[snip]
On 24 January 2020, Funimation announced that it would be shutting down access to FunimationNow in Australia and New Zealand on 30 March, merging all of Funimation's titles onto AnimeLab.[36]

This is the linked article:

Which has more information. So Funimation has already been shut down in Australia and NZ, and probably France, but...

Colin Decker, who became Funimation's general manager in May, leads the joint venture. The joint venture operates under Funimation's name and acquires and distributes Japanese anime through the three component companies. Variety reported in September that the joint venture would cover 10 languages in 49 countries with about 300 employees.

But apparently Funimation is in charge of the three companies, ultimately.

Looking further in that article... Apparently Funimation also bought Manga Entertainment (UK / Ireland), too. And through Aniplex, Sony owns A-1 Pictures and Cloverworks.

So yeah, Sony appears to be trying to EA the anime industry -- and Funimation is just being brought along for the ride?

Looking at the job postings for Funimation...

A lot of jobs in Culver City / LA, but still some in Texas. Seems like a lot of software engineers and the like. Makes me wonder if they're aiming for a new mobile app.

I figure any jobs away from the Texas campus are less jobs that Sabat can influence.

At the end of they day, Funimation has more eyes on it now than ever before.

Hero Hei probably started when Rooster Teeth made their post about dismissing Vic.

Looks like sony is fronting the funimation name and brand to get more IPs.

Good that they're trying to get a software engineer, their app is shitty and has needed work for a while.

Vic's doing an audiobook now which is kinda sad because he never wanted to do audiobooks and yes he has stated this on camera. But he did the Star Trek one because Star Trek and now it seems this is the niche that will hire him for the moment
That's a shame, but I hope it grows on him. Todd Haberkorn did the readings for the Ed & Lorraine Warren audiobook series. While the stories those 2 tell might be suspect, the audiobooks are some of the best I've ever heard. Todd fucking nailed the story telling.

Maybe it's just me, but it's damn near impossible to find audiobooks read by people in which their voice doesn't ruin it or bore me. The audiobook industry really could use some more good voice actors.
