As the election nears and the celebrity endorsements roll out and the journalists work themselves (and their readers) into an animalistic frenzy and the political machines begin to preach impending doomsday to the public, the sentiment will turn. People on ResetERA who are reluctant to vote for Biden will either fall in line or be punished for not swallowing their conscience.

This shit happens every election and it sucks. Inciting panic is central to getting out the vote, and it fucks people up and turns them against each other during and after the election season. Every election gets spun into an all-or-nothing fight for survival and people are left hating each other regardless of the outcome or consequences.

About half the people I know personally voted for Hillary; the rest voted against her and of those, the majority did so by voting for a third party or staying home. Those people take no end of shit. Saying publicly that you voted for Trump earns a simple “fuck you racist;” saying that you voted for a third party or stayed home gets you lectured at endlessly about exactly how and why you’re an evil person. The best Twitter tirades were the ones aimed at people who wrote in Harambe; that shit got construed as treason against the American people.

If Trump wins reelection, you can bet your ass that ResetERA staff will retaliate against anybody who voiced any objection to voting Biden, both because they’ll have drunk the “trump will literally kill us all” kool-aid that will be spewing from every societal orifice by then and because they’ll just be looking for somebody they can righteously hurt. It’s a story that never changes except for the dates.
