I worry that, as a society, we've become addicted to fear and outrage. That we view those who would rather go on with their lives despite the risks as the real deviants. Obsessively checking Twitter and Reddit for the latest iterations of "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE AND IT'S ALL __________'S FAULT!" or "OH MY GOD CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT ________ DID TODAY?" is a horrible way to live. When you spend all of your free time looking at how awful the world is, that really does some damage on your psyche. Given a choice between that and the WuFlu, I'll take my chances with the latter. Life is not a fucking safe space.
Ya, that's why WWII Americans and Great Depression Americans would be laughing their asses off at us right now. The WWII Americans knew what it was like to be part of a country fighting for its' life. The Great Depression Americans would have died and gone to heaven to get even a $100 "stimulus" check. Matter of fact, the US Government during the Great Depression did all it could to keep from paying WWI veterans their bonus before the planned date of 1945. The vets finally got their bonus in 1936, but not without one hell of a lot of turmoil.

I always seem to sound like I'm giving a history lesson. Maybe more Americans should study their history. The USA has been through many tough times in the past, but our people were tougher.
America didn't used to run scared. It had the confidence born from weathering wars, depressions, epidemics, and natural disasters. Best I can figure, America as a whole started to lose that self-confidence at or about the time of 9-11. Too many people, at too many levels, took counsel of their fears. And we all know what happened. Same damned thing has happened here. Way too many people have taken counsel of their fears, especially those in most state governors' seats. And we see what's happening. Got a lot of little Hitlers creaming their jeans and panties while on their personal power trips. And because so many people have taken counsel of their fears, most accepted the ukases these fucks promulgated at face value. Not so much, now.
Happily, we aren't Chinese. When Americans stop buying the politicians' bullshit, they act. Seeing it now. Getting support from the President and Attorney General. Believe the next time there is a calamity, and there will be another one at some time, people will have much less faith in politicians' proclamations and work around/ignore them from te get-go. And the politicians will have only themselves to blame.
It's been said nobody gets out of life alive. Matter of fact, tomorrow isn't guaranteed to you, to me, to anyone. You learn to use your brain and live with a degree of risk, at least if you have a life worth living. Could well be that when a person dies, God is more likely to ask them, "What did you do with your life?" instead of "Where did you hide and cower all your life?"
