Probably the most important video I want to share today, it's longish but do check it out. On the use of anticoagulants to prevent blood clots. Also, the postive outcome of a patient treated with remdesivir:

Another (shorter) video about Covid-19 affecting the blood: "7 fold increase of strokes in younger people" "sudden onset of large vessel stroke" (ie. the interruption of blood flow in one of the main large arteries in the brain). Also mentions using the D-Dimer test to tell how likely the blood will clot.

The U.S. really keeps dancing around the fact that obesity is a huge factor in deaths here. It's the most prevalent underlying condition in hospitalized patients between 18-49 according to this.

The CDC even mentions it as a risk factor, but I keep seeing articles about people in their 20s and 30s dying and it says "no known underlying conditions" but then you look at a picture of the person and it's plain to see they're obese.

I was thinking about it when I read about this 26 year old former football player who died in Connecticut. It's sad that someone so young died and he seemed like a decent guy, but it's a bit ridiculous to say someone is "perfectly healthy" carrying around that much weight.

I've also noticed a lot of the articles don't include a picture and I have to search around for one and my first thought is "they're probably fat".

I know it's a touchy subject that hurts people's feelings, but it's a serious health issue and this should be a come to Jesus moment about the obesity problem here.

It's weird how nobody says, not even the alt-right. It's pretty much only countries with sizable Chinese populations that are getting punched down.

USA, Italy, Spain, Canada, etc. Guess renaming it to COVID worked?

The Detroit Democrats are acting less like a political party and more like the Mafia. Is it something in the water?
Democrats plan to censure lawmaker who credited Trump for COVID-19 recovery said:

Detroit Democrats plan to vote to censure and bar any future endorsements of a Democratic lawmaker who credited President Donald Trump with advocating for the drug that she said cured her of COVID-19.
State Rep. Karen Whitsett, D-Detroit, broke protocol by meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence during an April 14 meeting of COVID-19 survivors, during which she credited hydroxychloroquine for saving her life.

“Thank you for everything that you have done,” Whitsett told Trump at the meeting
(Archive) . “I did not know that saying thank you had a political line. … I’m telling my story and my truth, and this how I feel and these are my words.”

Trump appeared to offer his support for the state representative late Thursday, tweeting, "Disgraceful. (Whitsett) Should join the Republican Party!"

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 24, 2020 (Archive)
The meeting and other comments Whitsett made prior to and during the coronavirus pandemic have landed her in hot water with the 13th Congressional District Democratic Party Organization.

The group, as first reported by Gongwer News Service
(Archive), plans to vote Saturday via Zoom on a resolution to censure Whitsett, a first-term lawmaker representing the 9th Michigan House District.

The admonition means she will not get the group’s endorsement for this year nor will she be able to engage in the group’s activities for the next two election cycles.

“At the end of the day, we have political systems,” said Jonathan Kinloch, chairman of the organization. “We have political parties, and political parties exist for a reason.

“They do not belong to themselves,” Kinloch said of endorsed candidates and elected officials. “They belong to the members and precinct delegates of the Democratic Party.”

Up until March, Kinloch was Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's community liaison to southeast Michigan.

The developments quickly drew the ire of Donald Trump Jr., who tweeted Thursday: "What a joke. Remember folks, the narrative can only be against Trump and if you break those rules the left will turn on their own."

'I will continue to fight'
Whitsett, meanwhile, said she plans to continue working for the district, adding she has been delivering food and cleaning products to those in need throughout the pandemic.

"I will continue to fight for the city of Detroit and the people in Detroit who need it the most, and that is the black community," Whitsett said. "We’re the voiceless, and I don’t care who I got to go up against to do that.

"I’m a Democrat, and I plan on continuing to be a Democrat, but they will change their ways. I have my First Amendment right, and no one will take that away from me.”

It's not unusual for there to be strife within parties, but those differences usually play out at the state or local level, said Greg Bowens, a Detroit-area Democratic political consultant and a member of the executive board for the 14th Congressional District.

n Whitsett's case, the issue quickly rose to the national stage and could be used as a wedge to peel off Democratic supporters in Michigan, Bowens said. Whitsett's actions, he said, could be "undermining the party's ability to win Michigan."

“She is in her own way trying to champion the inequities in our system," Bowens said. "But everybody knows Trump’s a user. If you give him any praise, he’s going to use it in his campaign to win the state.”

Several lawmakers in Detroit or elsewhere have been censured in some way by their parties over the years because of "serious trouble with the law," but the idea of zinging a lawmaker for meeting with the president is "unheard of," said Bill Ballenger, a longtime political analyst, a Republican former state lawmaker and head of the online Ballenger Report.

"They obviously feel this is something that cannot be tolerated," he said.

Kinloch said the party’s problems with Whitsett date back to comments she made about House Democratic leadership and the Democratic legislative caucus at large.

In February, Whitsett told WWJ-AM (950)
(Archive) that House Democratic Leader Christine Greig of Farmington Hills was a racist because she wouldn’t consider an urban agenda for the caucus. Greig also pulled Whitsett’s communications staff because of an unfavorable vote on an early rendition of the no-fault auto reform bill, Whitsett said.

A later version of the no-fault auto reform legislation received overwhelming support in the state House and was signed into law by Whitmer.

Slammed for misrepresenting Dems
The resolution Detroit Democrats will vote on notes she has "misrepresented the needs and priorities" of Democratic leadership to the president and public.

The resolution also notes she's participated in events with the Republican Women's Federation of Michigan to express gratitude to the president.

Whitsett, the resolution said, "has repeatedly and publicly praised the president's delayed and misguided COVID-19 response efforts in contradiction with the scientifically based and action-oriented response" from Michigan's Democratic leadership, "endangering the health, safety and welfare of her constituents, the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan."

Michigan State Medical Society President Dr. Mohammed Arsiwala prescribed hydroxychloroquine and an antibiotic for Whitsett after she visited one of his Michigan Urgent Care clinics in Wyandotte. She had symptoms of COVID-19 and an underlying condition, he told The Detroit News
(Archive).
South of the US border calling someone "indio" is a huge insult. Some countries, like Guatemala, Bolivia and Peru use indigena/o without problems as they have large indigenous populations, many still speak a native language (parts of southern Mexico as well). The idiots in the Democratic Party can't tell the difference between a Spaniard or a Mayan Kachiquel, they're all "Hispanic" to them.

I see you never heard of Guillermo Brown. I'm sure all the potato famine ñiggers that settled there have had issues with the bongs going back to Drogheda.

Wall Street Journal good enough.

there is also an open letter to Cuomo floating around where a family who lost an elderly relative demands answers to how and why their nursing home bound loved one was exposed to and died as a result of said policy. Cuomo was asked about this order at a news conference this week. He expressed confusion. At which point his Health Commusioner stepped up and said “yes that is our policy”

I had finally forgotten the fucking X shit. God. Why. At least use the @ like a normal person, fuck.

Technically it already exists. Just not for the RAE. Funny thing, that's why when you sellect language in games it specifies "spanish-spain", the classification of "spanish-american" was made due to the old dubbing industries. It is applied in technical aspects some times.

As for the RAE. They still think Balistas and Ballestas (crossbows) are the same, so I'd say they're idiot.

You can make Dasani out of pretty much any water by adding a little bleach to the water to kill the bugs

https://archive.vn/F1B4Q

To use household bleach for disinfecting water:
  • Add two drops of bleach per quart or liter of water.
  • Stir it well.
  • Let the mixture stand for a half hour before drinking.

Don’t fucking drink disinfectant.

When I was little, my mum forced me to drink watered down Dettol to get the evil out of me; the baths in scalding water and bleach and the beatings with electrical flex having failed to do the job.

When my dad caught her, she had to go and live with my granny for a while “for a rest”.

Don’t try it yourself.

The funny thing is Trump was talking about UV IVs, which also sound crazy, but are apparently a thing. I was hoping for Operation memes.

Have never seen this happen before. Believe SecDef will approve. Also believe there's been some sort of internal Navy investigation as to why Captain Crozier didn't get the support he apparently requested earlier. If this is done right all mention of the relief of command and the reinstatement would be removed from Captain Crozier's personnel records.

Having said that, it will be interesting to see Captain Crozier's future after this assignment. Every officer has two reputations. The first reputation is the one that's laid out in the personnel records and performance reports. The second, and by far the most important, is the reputation an officer has whenever other officers, especially those senior to him/her, are sitting around talking, or on the phone, etc. If the people sitting around talking conclude Captain Crozier got a raw deal, he'll get a good assignment after leaving the carrier, something that will set him up for that first star. Or if he's getting ready to meet the one-star board, word will be passed, informally, not to take the relief/reinstatement into account. If the officers sitting around talking believe Captain Crozier fucked up, he will get a less-desirable assignment, and likely an informal suggestion to retire.

LA Suburb Update:
- Grocery store remains hit and miss. I went in the evening, and got my b-choice on canned soup, some hot dogs, lots of coffee creamer and a pizza. Roommate #1 found a big pack of scented toilet paper (???) and Roommate #2 found organic paper towels (They're brown so you can tell they're recycled).
- Grandpa's doctor has been consulted about the nursing home infection, and says that *if* the nursing home is following proper protocols, it is still safer to leave him there. The nursing home has tested all residents for Covid, and we're waiting to hear how many are affected besides the two symptomatic ones.
- The number of people at the (non-LA County) beach has risen exponentially since lockdown started. (Week 1 = four people, Week 3 = @12, Week... whatever we're on = 200). This was the first week the beach has been legally open. You're supposed to keep walking and not sit in the sand but everyone was tanning on towels as per the norm. They say if the beaches get too crowded they'll close them again, but the weather hit 90 the week so... yup.
- One local (non LA County) ski resort has opened, and is letting in 15 people an hour.
- My local "small nitch hobby shop" is supposed to be doing mail in only but was happy to sell me stuff out the back door.
- The fabric section at Walmart is totally decimated. The mask makers have found their true calling at last.
- A bunch of (non LA County) golf courses have reopened.
- My friend who works in medical supply production just got her hours cut. My friend in one of those not-quite-pyramid-schemes says her mother-ship-company just laid off half the sales-force and is forcing the remaining ones to continue paying subscriptions for products they can't move. My nurse friend just signed a new contract and is making bank...

Fabric might be out if they bring in stuff from China. As we well know, China is more or less jumping on a sprained ankle right now.

More LA County update. Includes information on race, and nursing homes and other institutions.

Given that the county is like way over half Hispanic, I asked my husband about why whites are hit so hard with this. He said that some people count themselves as white when they are actually mestizo.

Its not unheard of. Admiral Nimitz managed to run a destroyer aground back when he was an Ensign. He managed to recover from what is almost always a career ender. Definitely did not expect reinstatement here though, even if they thought he got a raw deal. I figured they would have shuffled him ashore, and then quietly promoted him to Rear Admiral in charge of logistics or R&D somewhere after a year or two.

One more week of this before things start opening up in earnest, at least here. It's probably a bit too early but the city is way spread out, like Houston. My relative who died was in Louisiana, which has been harder hit, so no mixed feelings from that.

I still think they need to go full-on Starship Troopers where they bust him down to the lowest rank for revealing Federation secrets to the Bugs and then say 'You did it out of concern for your men. The Federation needs people like you for the upcoming war of extermination against the Bugs. We're reappointing you as Captain of the carrier'.

Now people will say 'Gustav. Life is not a Robert A Heinlein novel'. To which I'd respond 'Why can't it be?'.

I went out shopping supply gathering in the midwestern US today.
Walmart was fairly well stocked, but out of a few things here and there. They had 12 packs of Angel Soft toilet paper, so I got some even though I still have a few rolls left. Am I a hoarder or a responsible person? Time will tell. Most people were wearing masks but there were a few rebels and as far as I could tell, no one cared.
After Walmart I went to Aldi. They were limiting how many people were in the store at a time so I, along with a few others, had to wait in line to enter. The lady ahead of me in line complained bitterly about it the entire time even though it wasn't long and the weather was gorgeous. It was also pretty well stocked and I got what I went there for and got out.
Then I went to Lowes. THAT was a different experience. Very few people were wearing masks, everyone seemed to be giggling about something, and forget social distancing or even respecting personal space, these people were trying to climb into my pockets. I got the one thing I went in for and got out while wondering wtf was going on in there.

That wasn't in a Heinlein novel.

US officers are not demoted. Instead, officers can be dismissed as part of a punishment if found guilty at a court-martial. Dismissal means a dishonorable discharge.

We can’t exactly forget or forgive that on the rather clear basis of Croziers leak, the Chinese Carrier Liaoning and it’s Carrier task group put to sea to threaten Taiwan. Triggering an escalation of naval forces in the theater. While his concern for his crew is admirable, he put untold numbers of lives at risk by advertising the condition of his forces.

It’s a limited opening, so I don't think it's going to be too bad. I'm furloughed through May, so I won't have a reason to go into the city though.

The Captain leaked, then the crew leaked. That ship is rotten with people who don't understand leaking they are weak is fucking tarded in a way that could get a CBG wiped out and a war started.
