There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

Fat Boy Kim rumoured to be dead after botched heart surgery.

In a country where the average person is starving to death, he dies of complications arising from an obesity related condition.

Best timeline.
They actually said the doctors struggled because they had no experience treating obese patients.
Does Un have a son? I thought the only known child was a daughter? The brother hekilled only had 2 daughters with his official wife, although there may be a ton of Malaysian Hooker babies out there. I don't think the sister lasts 10 minutes in power. She was already driven from the politburo, and only brought back last weekend. Much of the Leadership and China hate her. If she is back it is as a figurehed only. Nobody is giving her any sharp objects. If anyones in charge it will be China and they will install a compliant cousin or uncle, (one that hasn't been killed by anti-aircraft artillery yet.) At any signs of fighting warlords or instability the PLA will march in and have a few words.
In a recent book I read “The Hermit King” which was written by a South Korean diplomat specializing in NK he reported Un had 3 children - 1 daughter, 1 son and the third and youngest was unknown via his wife. (No idea about the bastard kids he probably has.)

So I’ve been under the assumption there is at least one (maybe 2) male heirs. Not to mention Un’s brothers who definitely have sons, both legitmate and not.

So the only male heir carrying the mystical Paektusan bloodline is the missing Kim Han-Sol (son of Kim Jong-nam), right? Best Korean Irony if Paektu blood runs out of Y chromosomes and all that Eternal posturing dies of natural causes.

Not that women can’t carry a bloodline or lead, mind you - just that there is always the potential for things to fracture if there’s any sort of schism in the ruling council, since it’s mostly old, male officers.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they'll declare whoever the hell they feel like to have the bloodline, the whole point of declaring yourself a god made flesh is that whatever you say is reality is.

Un has an older brother, Kim Jong-chul, who was passed over when Un succeeded their father. Un also has kids but they are very young. The obvious successor would be the sister Kim Yo-jong. As long as the sister can be made to fit the NK Cult of Personality, she shouldn't need a Y chromosome.
Yeah, she kind of needs that Y given the very patriarchal dynasty she was born into. XX is still legit second class citizen in NK (and China for that matter) in terms of power. Look what happened to Chairman Mao’s wife ffs.

I doubt that. I don't remember any female communist ruler in the past history. The possible new leader most likely will be a man. Eastern cultures don't treat women as we do, even if she's the closest relative to the Kim dinasty.
She’s not the closest. The family tree is very complex. Kim Jung iL had several wives and mmistresses who had kids. Un just happened to be the one who had not pissed off or embarrassed his daddy much by the time he had his stroke - so lucky him got to be Dear Leader #3. (Un also had one brother killed and one uncle killed via air artillery guns before an audience)

The sister did what any cunning, smart woman would have done and became a loyal confident to Un. I’m sure this gave her enormous power but she’s not any position to be able to publicly hold the reigns of power and be NK’s living God (no goddesses need apply)
