Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I will accept any authoritarian control measure the state can devise if they will just allow me to foist all my kids on someone else for three or four hours, please.

Please god, I cannot keep living like an animal in captivity for months on end until a vaccine comes. I always knew I wouldn’t hack it in jail. Just let us out, somehow.

Alright news time. Hey remember how in certain regions today was the first day kids could go out to excercize and play WHILE ENFORCING SOCIAL DISTANCING. Remember how Malaga was the place in Andalucia with the most corona cases?

Well. Malaga today:
IMG-20200426-WA0001.jpg

For the record here in Cadiz it also opened. And we've seen nothing of the sort. So this is just Malaga being fucktards it seems most of the community knows how not to be dumbfucks.

Kinda explains how they got the most cases to begin with. Exceptionals. Exceptionals everywhere.

One thing that's going to make a big difference to coronavirus case and death rates is how people behave. If everyone naturally social distances they'll be fine with relatively lax lockdown enforcement by the cops. If everyone behaves like the picture above even an attempt at very strict lockdown enforcement won't help much - the cops can't be everywhere and in places they're not, it will look like your picture.

In a sense, the left/right divide on this is that the right wants to be left alone to behave responsibly, and the left thinks that people are a bunch of idiots who need to be policed.

You burgerlanders keep posting links that don't work from EU IPs and it's starting to worry me because it seems to be for legal reasons. (As in, the cookies must be breaking data protection law or some shit like that) so that's concerning.

That aside. If the cases are rising at a worrying pace then your area should consider locking down before a healthcare collapse. Consider contacting your representative about it.

That makes sense but it's still horrifying that your current system allows for retired people to have pensions so low that they literally can't afford to live. Like... that's just straight up wtf.

Not the case for everyone. Social Security was never intended to be the only source of support for a retired person. This was to be a supplement to pension and savings. But some people simply made bad life choices. Not that hard to get a good education, have a good career, have a good pension. Just takes work and self-discipline. If I could do it, so could anyone else. Not rich but we have enough.

Meat of the matter:
...
Normal blood-oxygen levels are around 97%, Moss said, and it becomes worrisome when the numbers drop below 90%. At levels below 90%,
I think if your oxygen saturation drops your heart rate goes up to try to get more blood through your lungs and thus more oxygen. It's a control system and it tries to compensate for bad lung function by jacking your heart rate up. I found an article a while back which says

https://kiwifarms.net/threads/wuhan-coronavirus-megathread.65421/page-1257#post-6240337

So fever, crackling sound in lungs, pulse over 100, and oxygen saturation below 95% are all signs of pneumonia.
IIRC, oximeters can be fooled by other things that bind to hemoglobin. Smokers having higher o2% readings on these infrared oximeters vs actual o2% values found in blood tests comes to mind, IIRC.
Any medical kiwis able to confirm? I know someone who would read 97% o2 after a smoke, but would drop to 92% after an hour.

What about pulse rate? I've read that infected people can have increased heart rates and palpitations.
Yup, not unusual for pneumonia. This was quite nasty when I had it though
. During sleep my spO2 is around 90-92 and heart rate will be mid to high 40's.
you’re the ex cyclist right? It’s not unusual for anyone who does serious exercise to have a slow heart beat, BUT I would definitely go and get yourself checked over. Once you stop doing crazy levels of activity the heart largely goes back to normal. What you do sometime see however, is people who then dont seek help for what in any other patient would be a red flag because they’re used to having a slow beat, or certain other things. So dont freak out but In the not too distant future go get someone to at least listen to your heart. That sat is on the low side as well - nothing too bad. Do go and get a good physical in the next few months.

That was the first symptom. Anosmia, tachy. SOB three days after. Got dc'd yesterday and it's back to work.

I was tachy as well, that and the SOB was the worst. Damn you young fast recoverers... took me weeks to get back to myself. Guess that’s being old and knackered

edited to add to @Allakazam223 yeah they can’t tell the difference between CO and O2.

Yup. Pulse oximeters just measure how red your blood is. That's all they do.

Smoking causes vasoconstriction so you get high readings on the finger. Put it on the ear.

Mind you I've been saying that for about couple of weeks now. The basic problem is that the media and the government can't admit that the lockdown was an overreaction. They'd rather trash the economy even more than admit that trashing it in the first place was probably unnecessary in the first place.

Look for more articles about how things are 'much worse than previously thought' and how we'll probably need a one-year lockdown and then a cyberpunk post-apocalyptic dystopia where you need to show your 'Clear' status on your phone before you can buy groceries.

yea, i think all of the stupid concerts "with you at home" or whatever the fuck they're called, were organized to raise funds for charlatan WHO and do whatever else with, were decisions that were made before all of the lockdowns and panic dissipates, demonstrating that they want to get a good grift outta this situation before people get back to normal.

That's a bit cunty. I know knew a couple older folks who had dope ass pensions coming their way but then the fuck whits that owned the companies gambled and/or squandered all that money away and left the pensioners penniless outside of SS and savings. Just because things worked out for you, doesn't mean it did for countless other people who prepared and did their due diligence.

That I didn't know. It makes sense though because the oximeter looks at the color of your hemoglobin. Nice healthy red hemoglobin could that color because it's bound reversibly to O2 and is helpfully transporting it to your cells or bound irreversibly to CO and out of action.

If you smoke, unfortunately, the reading on your oximeter may be higher than your actual oxygen saturation. This is because smoking increases carbon monoxide levels in your blood, and the oximeter cannot tell the difference between the gas carbon monoxide from oxygen. If you smoke, talk to your health care provider about how to properly read your oximeter numbers

Smokers beware I guess.

It's funny because as always spanish political compass seems inverted. But I think this time maybe it's just that we got lucky PSOE is in the gov. Not necessarily any cultural stuff.

Like, if the left was the opposition I could totally see them banging the "if you lift the lockdown you're letting people die for money" drum. But because they're in the gov and know if they cause an economic crisis they're fucked they're like "yeah so we're deescalating this shit asap". Meanwhile Vox (far right) are the ones banging the "WHEN THE LOCKDOWN LIFTS WERE ALL GUNNA DIIIIIEEEEE" Drum but the actual majority of the oposition (PP, PNV and catalonian nationalists, moderate right) while they at one point did say that shit, because opposition gotta blame the gov for everything, as quickly as they realized "oh yeah wait business" they're aiding the lift and telling Vox to put a sock in it. Because they are right wing after all, they will not get caught putting lives above businesses.

So yeah it's kinda funny to see how having the roles reversed is getting everyone to begrudgingly agree and relatively follow the expert's advice. Fucking demonstrates how paper thin politics become in the end. Everyone knows what's right, they just act as if they didn't for propaganda, the fucking cunts.

Not only that, but I've been running into more and more news sites that won't let people browse articles if they run ad-blockers. If you do allow ads, however, said sites bombard users with so many ads it goes beyond annoying and drives the users to either install an ad blocker or stop visiting their site altogether. This is where archive copies, when possible, come in handy.

Anyways, here is @Techpriest's original link:

And an archive that is hopefully readable outside burgerland:

I wouldn't trust the professional, well-known artists holding online concerts because they're probably expected to e-beg or grift for some organization in return for offering (not so) free streaming concerts. Instead, I'd be more willing to listen to a performance held by an amateur musician who has more of an interest in providing entertainment for people that presently have none and less of an interest in hustling money out of those viewing their streamed performances.

Bill De Blasio is now promising a "roadmap" to recovery by June 1 -

I'm not sure how they're going to build a "better and more just society" if people start leaving the city because they can't go anywhere or do anything, so we'll see how that works out.

These dumb assholes are why we can't have nice things. People acting like idiot babies by not following basic guidelines about distancing means lockdowns get extended for everyone. I suspect a 'soft' reopening program in my local area is going to do the exact same thing with every public place getting packed to the gills without any kind of distancing after the first 5 minutes. I want everything to reopen, too, but I'm expecting a lot of open-close-open-close because of behavorial issues leading to healthcare usage spikes.

Yeah this is exactly what is going to happen. Oh well.

what do you guys think life will be like after the lockdown ends? will we still have to deal with karens snitching on us for not being 6 feet apart? I just want shit to go back to how it was before.

Ehm... June 1st?! Does De Blasio expect the city to EXIST by june 1st if no one goes to work?! If he doesn't accelerate this shit I may be no sooth sayer but I see a bullet in his close future.

Yeeep. Just saw it on TV and it seems while most of Andalucia has done fine, on other Autonomies it's gonna be fun. There were even multiple parent associations organizing fucking FOOTBALL MATCHES. Because I'm sure that won't backfire. Some were even arrogant about it when the cops told them they were breaking the law.

The problem is that by giving healthcare to everyone, including illegals, makes it extremely hard, if not impossible, to deliver good healthcare to your poor, ill and elderly. We also get taxed at a very high rate and there's no return that justifies it. Combined with this absolutely exceptional imbecile De Blasio virtue signaling in February and March, after he knew infected were spreading the China virus, that we should go out, ride the subway/buses and go see movies and dine in Chinatown has shown just how useless he is in a crisis.

I'm a forgiving person under normal circumstances but these aren't normal circumstances and I am actively making plans to GTFO. I can't be the only one.

You wouldn't be suffering if you'd kept your legs crossed.
