I hope you're doing well.
Thank you. It’s really flattened me, but I’ll live.

interesting tidbit in this article; https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...-coronavirus-fake-news-campaign-pressure.html

Interesting: “Downing Street, for instance, has removed China from the list of other countries it uses to compare the spread of Covid-19. It is understood this stems from a widespread distrust of official Chinese coronavirus victim figures.”

good. This is what journalists should be for. Digging this stuff up and exposing it.

Can't catch methb either
Oh yeah. Didn’t think of that...Did you manage to look into the methb thing at all?
I guess opportunities for experimentation are rather less than China, where you can clearly just dose anyone with anything to see if it works, regardless of what colour they turn. I shudder to think what goes on there

what do you guys think life will be like after the lockdown ends? will we still have to deal with karens snitching on us for not being 6 feet apart? I just want shit to go back to how it was before.
I don't. I honestly feel safer walking around where I live, there's no traffic on the road, no chavs on the street being obnoxious twats, and it's rather quiet outside. It's nice to hear birds chirping instead of cars with fat exhausts driving around.

Nice to hear it's not just us plebs that doubt the numbers from China. Now that the government is as well I have a feeling this might hurt China's economy in the future.

De Blasio can bloviate all he wants, but he ain't doin' shit til King Cuomo blesses it. He laid out the NY plan today. Basically, zip is happening til NY PAUSE ends 5/15. At that point, they will evaluate the hospitalization rates for the 10 regions. Any that show a 2 week decline in hospitalizations will be considered to move to Phase 1 of the Federal plan. Construction and manufacturing can open up.

After 2 more weeks, if the hospitalizations don't go up, individual regions can move to Phase 2, where other offices and businesses can be open, but in the order of how essential they are and if the business submits a plan showing how they will enforce sanitizing and social distancing, Each phase goes for a 2 week evaulation, and if there is a backslide in hospitalizations or increase in cases with expanded testing, he will close things down again.

Low pop areas in North and Middle NY will probably go first, NYC and downstate will be last dependent as well on coordination with NJ and CT. Timelinewise since the 15th is a Friday, the 18th is the first realistic day to hit Phase 1. So 3 weeks from now, then 2 more weeks for Phase 2. So a minimum of 5 weeks before some offices, retail and restaurants open in rural areas then another 2 weeks for another wave.

So don't expect to go to the mall and have dinner and a movie til mid June. At least.

Very slow news day. Hospital is seriously just back to normal. Everything is seriously just back to normal except with a lot more masks, chunks of our economy cut off and a lot more staying home because it's still not legal to come out.

Good to hear, man. Spain was throwing some fucking wild numbers for awhile.

You burgerlanders keep posting links that don't work from EU IPs and it's starting to worry me because it seems to be for legal reasons. (As in, the cookies must be breaking data protection law or some shit like that) so that's concerning.

That aside. If the cases are rising at a worrying pace then your area should consider locking down before a healthcare collapse. Consider contacting your representative about it.

That makes sense but it's still horrifying that your current system allows for retired people to have pensions so low that they literally can't afford to live. Like... that's just straight up wtf.

It's a mish-mash of systems, or lack thereof.

Way back when, many, if most companies offered pensions if you worked there long enough. These were called "defined-benefit" pensions. If you worked X number of years you would get Y percentage of your salary as the pension. Normally, both the company and the employee contributed to the pension.

This model has almost totally changed. Now, those companies that still offer pensions offer "defined-contribution" pensions. The company will contribute X dollars, and the employee will contribute Y dollars, but the amount of the pension is not guaranteed. This saves the company a LOT of money.

Sadly, some companies have eliminated pensions altogether, or eliminated them for new hires. Companies can also cut pensions. When some companies have gone out of business they went out with an insufficiently-funded or non-funded pension plan. Then the Federal Government steps in and takes over the pension plan.

That's for private-sector employers. For a very, very long time government workers, at all levels from town to Federal, also including the military, have been getting the "defined-benefit" pension. This is changing.

When I joined the military, eons ago, you would get 50% of your base pay as your pension after 20 years' service. You contributed no money, the military contributes all the money. Over time, that system changed in various ways, some good, some not so good. Since I joined before a certain date I am under the old system. Retired with just over 21 years. Pension just over 52.5% of base pay. For every year over 20 you get an extra 2.5%, up to the max of 75% at 30 years. You can also get a yearly cost-of-living increase, as a percentage of your pension.

Federal pensions, while changing, are safe. Military pensions are safe - they need their military.

Many states, counties, cities, and towns are facing a beyond-enormous challenge in funding their employees' pensions.

Two root problems - first, many years ago politicians made frankly outlandish promises re pensions to these state/county/city employees to get labor peace. These politicians knew they'd be long out of office by the time the pension bills came due. And now these bills are coming due. Second, most, if not all police officers' and firemen's pensions are calculated as a percentage of the final year's total pay. What these people tend to do during the last year is work all the overtime possible and cash in unused sick leave and vacation time, to make that total pay as large as possible for that bigger pension. There are many police officers and firemen with six-figure pensions. There are many state/county/city employees with pensions well into the six figures.

If you want to see just what state/county/city/town employees get in salaries and benefits in California, check this out.

Most of these states/counties/cities have never properly funded their pension plans. They have to borrow, raise taxes, and levy new taxes solely to fund these pensions. There are some states, such as Illinois, that are just wrecked financially due to pensions, among other things. California has major problems, too.

Here's a site that details public employee pension problems. Most are from California but there are stories from all over the country.

Bottom line: The pension mess is bad and getting worse quickly. You could easily write books on the problem. Just provided some basic info re pensions. Social Security has its' own problems, which can be fixed fairly easily as soon as the politicians have the guts to do so.

I see @Mexican_Wizard_711 has deleted his post, but while I would not attempt to offer medical advice for whatever issues he is encountering, and I am not a chemist either, I do not believe that the additives to Dasani water is consistent with bleach+water, which is not something you should drink unless your water is not potable.
Ensuring that water consumption (of tapwater) is maintained at the previous levels would be wise. Taking a multivitamin would be unlikely to hurt. Please don't drink bleach unnecessarily or try to make your own Dasani water from research chemicals.

TL;DR - China did this, we must divest and isolate them. There are 4 main challenges to divesting, they will take time and effort to accomplish. Policy must adapt to this new way of thinking, and there are no sacred cows.

His words inspired me. Worth watching and sharing.

My state has a mask wearing ordinance too, but I'm not sure the extent to which it's being legally enforced. My store has signs all over that mention the mask ordinance and make announcements about it every half hour, but we were told by corporate that we're not allowed to actually refuse entrance without a mask. Some workers and customers have said they are going to complain to authorities that we let people in without masks, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

I see very few people without masks in the store though. It's very rare to see someone without one entirely. I am not really sweating the occasional non-mask wearer because half the people who do wear them do it improperly anyway, they might as well not bother.

A lawyer is suing our governor over the mask order. Even though I think wearing masks is a good idea, I think it's good to consider whether it violates civil liberties. Back in February my husband and I were talking about enforced mask rules and he said it would never happen in the U.S. because it would be deemed unconstitutional, I was more cynical and said it would happen anyway and people would just end up suing and we'd find out where the chips lay.

I rated you horrifying not because of your story but because you were on reddit. Of course the pretentious dickbag hivemind would be up in arms about everything.

The WHO just published another one of their bullshit "There is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from COVID-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection." studies.

Australia has now reached the frighteningly high total of 83 dead from Coronavirus, and pressure is slowly growing to reduce some of the social isolation stuff, as the current infection rate hovers around 10-20 per day.

Queensland announced today that from next week, they will be able to drive, sit at the beach, have a picnic, and shop for nonessential items, as long as they stay within a 50 km radius of their homes.

Western Australia is increasing limits on gatherings to 10 people.

The NRL is to resume in May, so that bogans can watch grown men molest each other's asses while screaming, and the AFL is in talks to relocate teams from the plague-riddled wastes of Victoria, Queensland and NSW to the civilised states, such as South Australia.

In addition, elective surgery has resumed, and schools are slowly reopening.

Yeah, nobody has elevated methb. I was wrong on that.

Hyperferritinemia though...something's going on. So you can see where I was going with it.

Jesus fucking gimmiedats.

I can spend 66 dollars and get two weeks of food if I try.

In this area can just imagine the places that people would be able to go to using this "money". The vegetarian restaurant, or some new-age place. Need to include Mexican restaurants - county is heavily Hispanic, most older Hispanics will not eat anything but Mexican food. Need Asian restaurants - some older Asians will not eat anything except Asian food. Could see eating at two particular buffets, serving a variety of cuisines. But if there are restaurants listed people normally wouldn't go to, then comparatively little money will be spent overall. The state is trying to get these people to eat "healthy" foods. Please, motherfuckers. Guess what. ALL food is healthy. If you don't eat, you won't be healthy. By this time in life, people are pretty set in their eating habits. They simply will not eat unfamiliar food. Apparently the diner gets the food free but has to pay sales tax. Going to be a non-starter for some people. They either won't be able to afford even the sales tax or will not spend their money on food they cannot eat.

Just send people the vouchers, scrip, whatever, and let them determine what and where to eat. Otherwise, this program will be rather useless.

Added: Just looked at a list of the restaurants in Los Angeles County that can be patronized under their version of this program. 19-page PDF. Mostly fast food places.

Corona-chan's interference with the U.S. Census may result in delays in redrawing voting districts.

Michigan, USA

Governor Whitmer's emergency authority is set to expire on April 30th. She claims she does not need the legislature's approval to keep her emergency executive orders in force past that date. The legislature claims she does.
The legislature has not yet presented an official reopening plan, nor voted on further extending her powers. I would expect them to compromise on a plan this week, but I don't plan on posting articles until something is official.

Ford is starting to prep assembly lines for reopening, but no timetable is set yet.
(archive)

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered all grocery store and pharmacy employees to wear facial coverings, unless medical conditions prevent it. All stores are now required to set aside special hours for the elderly and vulnerable. Various other regulations have been added and loosened.
Effective immediatey, until May 22.
(archive)

SHUTDOWNS
Shelter-in-place order and shutdown of everything non-essential from Tuesday March 24 to Monday April 13. Friday, May 1, Friday, May 15 (archive) (executive order saved on KF) Marijuana shops are open. Tobacco shops are closed (archive). K-12 schools suspended for remainder of year, but alternate learning plans will be implemented (archive) (archive). Facial coverings are required in enclosed public spaces starting Monday, April 27, but there is no criminal penalty for not complying.
Lawsuits against the shutdown order are multiplying (archive). However, "all deadlines applicable to the commencement of all civil and probate actions and proceedings" are suspended until the end of the states of emergency and disaster. (archive). Major protest at the State Capitol April 15 (A&N thread). Minor protest outside Governor's Mansion April 23 (archive).
The Big Three Auto manufacturers (Ford, GM, Chrysler) have closed all factories in the USA, putting well over 150,000 workers out of work. This figure does not include workers at supplier factories, which were also obliged to close. (archive) (archive) (archive). They are still making a small number of parts for emergency vehicles, and production of ventilators, etc. has begun (archive- GM's ventilators, April 17.) Ford is preparing to reopen (archive - April 26).

ECONOMY AND MISCELLANY
Over 1 million unemployment claims filed = 10% of the total population of the state, nearly 25% of the workforce (Archive - April 16).
Big Brother is watching, and he approves. Massive phone-tracking project reveals Michigan travel down by 45%, compared to 40% nation-wide (website) (news article archive).
Car crashes are down, fatal car crashes are down, and overall death is actually down. (archive - April 12)

FREE STUFF!
Evictions suspended while the state of emergency lasts (archive)
Water will be turned back on for all households while the crisis lasts (archive)

HEALTH CARE
Hydroxychloroquine banned by governor's order (archive). Nevermind LOL! Now she's asking the federal government for it and claiming the ban was a mistake in the first place. (archive). Detroit-area hospitals are testing the drug's effectiveness as a preventative on first responders and health-care workers (archive).
Elective surgeries are banned. This does not include abortions (thread).
Up-to-date count of available hospital beds, etc. in the State (the Detroit area is "Section 2, North and South.")(government website)
Detroit field hospital admits first 8 Corona patients. It will only be taking the less-serious cases. No one on ventilators.(archive - April 14)
Another field hospital in Detroit scaled back after drop in cases. Original plan was to open with 1,100 beds. Now they are only going to open with 250, planned to open April 20. (archive - April 11).
Our statistics are inaccurate, because deaths are being both overcounted and undercounted (archive).

LAW AND ORDER
All localities given more discretion to release prisoners early (archive). The State prison system is not currently releasing inmates early.
Lansing (the capitol) police are not physically responding to minor crimes such as larceny, property damage, and break-ins to unoccupied buildings, including garages. Other police are adopting similar policies (archive) (archive).
Detroit crime still down (archive - April 12); Muskegon police report crime is up (archive).
Breaking the lockdown is a misdemeanor, punishable by $1500 fines and 90 days jail time. Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) has stated there will not be a "ramp up" of police enforcement (archive). The attorney general has left it to local law enforcement to close businesses, as her hands are full with price-gougers and con artists (archive).
The police cannot, at present, pull drivers over simply for being out during the shutdown (archive). Local police in the rural north and in Detroit suburbs have alike stated they will not be enforcing parts of the order (archive).

OFFICIAL DEATH TOLL

The State of Michigan reviews deaths and adds overlooked cases to the official statistics three times a week.
MDHHS said:
Regular reviews of death certificate data maintained in Vital Records reporting systems are conducted by MDHHS staff three times per week. As a part of this process, records that identify COVID-19 infection as a contributing factor to death are compared against all laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). If a death certificate is matched to a confirmed COVID-19 case and that record in the MDSS does not indicate the individual died, the MDSS record is updated to indicate the death and the appropriate local health department is notified. These matched deaths are then included with mortality information posted to the Michigan Coronavirus website.

The drop in deaths is probably because of the weekend, but it's still noticeably lower than the last few Sundays (77, 95, 83).

Detroit Metro (pop. 3,860,000 total; 1,796/sq. mi.; 694/sq km):*

27,879 confirmed / 2,720 dead
27,568 confirmed / 2,698 dead yesterday
(i.e. 22 new deaths, down 144 from previous day)
Normal Detroit Metro Death Rate: 104 per day.**

Other Michigan (6,120,000; 65/sq. mi.; 25/sq km):

9,899 confirmed / 595 dead
9,635 confirmed / 576 dead yesterday
(i.e. 19 new deaths, down 4 from previous day)
Normal not-Detroit Death Rate: 167 per day**

All Michigan (9,990,000; 103/sq. mi.; 40/sq km):

37,778 confirmed / 3,315 dead
37,203 confirmed / 3,274 dead yesterday
(i.e. 41 new deaths, down 148 from previous day, down 90 without the adjustment.)
Normal Michigan Death Rate: 271 per day.**

Death toll doubled since: April 13.
We have been locked down since: March 24.

*Here defined as the City of Detroit, and Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties, minus state prisoners, who are not counted towards any county's cases, but are kept in a category of their own.
** As of 2018.
*** 95, 55, and 58 statewide deaths, respectively, were added on these days because of a review of the records. Presumably most were in Detroit, but I don't know exactly how many.

Also one Ann Arbor man allegedly killed by his roommate in a Corona-related dispute (archive). The suspect has been released from custody while the investigation continues (archive).

They're opening hair salons of all places in my state (along with tanning salons, tattoo parlors and spas). Now, in my city as I've stated before, TPTB have been screeching about the higher rate of infection in black folk. When you open the weave shops, you can bet that the womenfolk are going to absolutely flock to them, to get their hair and nails redid. Then the infections will spread further and we'll hear more about how it's not the individual actions of the black people but the institutionalized racism (literally said on the news recently).

Sanchez has tried to put a stop to the bureaucratic nightmare by saying the gov will be deciding how and when to reopen. Catalonia and Basque country are bitching about how they want more independence and disagree that they should follow central gov orders. Meanwhile Andalucia has just given solid dates and a whole plan until total reopen matter of factly and when asked about what the gov would say about it basically just said either they agree or they'll have to agree 'cause this train don't stop. Fucking lol.

"Will not eat anything but" ... people in poverty need to stop being so picky imho.

The problem is that by giving healthcare to everyone, including illegals, makes it extremely hard, if not impossible, to deliver good healthcare to your poor, ill and elderly. We also get taxed at a very high rate and there's no return that justifies it. Combined with this absolutely exceptional imbecile De Blasio virtue signaling in February and March, after he knew infected were spreading the China virus, that we should go out, ride the subway/buses and go see movies and dine in Chinatown has shown just how useless he is in a crisis.

I'm a forgiving person under normal circumstances but these aren't normal circumstances and I am actively making plans to GTFO. I can't be the only one.
The illegals are already getting free healthcare. Nobody (not even republicans) will kick them off medicaid and welfare. The people suffering high deductibles and underinsured are working U.S. citizens.

I have relatives from all over the country, and some random third cousin lives in Seattle. I also know that this map has been posted multiple times, but I've noticed that China's circle is smaller than a lot of other highly populated countries. I think something dodgy is going on with the data (just like I've noticed that the cdc hyper-inflates the obesity rate (saying it's 42% when in reality it's around 31-33%, but it's still high af) and the census exaggerating the poverty rate (like not accounting funding that goes into welfare nor considering the fact that most "poor" people in the USA have running water and automobiles etc.)) So here's some info from where a lot of my relatives are from here and some updates:

I would list all of the states where a lot of family tree relatives live at, but that would be a long ass list of links. I also saw that some g-d bothers decided to get triggered @ the Kansas Governor when she wanted to close the churches or something.

^ see dat? See dat shit? Dat right there is why this fucking bond bullshit makes no sense. Either you do public healthcare or you fucking don't. If you want public healthcare just have it, I don't care how strong, you can have just a little under the understanding that everyone that can will get insured and go to private, that's ok. But have some and make sure they just don't turn your paying fucking citizens at the door. Not this bullshit where actual taxpayers are fucked while illegals and vermin get free healthcare. That shit straight up makes no fucking sense.

I'd say the sane thing would be pushing them to august, maybe if shit goes really poorly june (though that'd depend on how your law handles pushing things past usual terms). But honestly with 30 deaths a day if they were well organized (read: enforce social distancing on the lines and spread them out over a longer than usual period to deflate density) they could be done now without too much issue. Either way, it's... being handled in certainly slightly worrysome ways. But not TOO worrysome ways. Vote by mail in spain means corrupt as fuck though. I sure as shit wouldn't trust our assholes in charge with that shit.
I believe the only way to postpone the election at this point is to proclaim state of natural disaster (or emergency) and keep extending it until August. Most of the opposition will cry foul no matter what though. Beyond this, I have no idea what's going to happen. There's even a slim chance of the ruling coalition breaking up within the next two weeks.

Today's update: +344/+12/+139 new cases/deaths/recoveries. Nothing new.

Ehm... June 1st?! Does De Blasio expect the city to EXIST by june 1st if no one goes to work?! If he doesn't accelerate this shit I may be no sooth sayer but I see a bullet in his close future.

Yeeep. Just saw it on TV and it seems while most of Andalucia has done fine, on other Autonomies it's gonna be fun. There were even multiple parent associations organizing fucking FOOTBALL MATCHES. Because I'm sure that won't backfire. Some were even arrogant about it when the cops told them they

deBlasio and New York’s supposed plan show an amazing example of political leadership with no ability to see unintended consequences. Take a walk through this with me.

1. New York will begin evaluating whether or not you can open up or resume even a minor amount of normalcy every two weeks. If you are a business when they get to phase 2 (at a minimum a month away) You will have to pray they consider you essential enough for consideration. Then you get to write a long form essay to be reviewed by the same people who still haven’t answered your calls about PPP loans or unemployment, and whose web sites remain fucked up. You can’t open until they get back to you with their blessing. (Sure hope there is nothing Republican in your social media history)

2. While locking down business and emy, oyment in ever increasing levels of zaniness. New York has not only not done anything to prevent New Yorkers from leaving, Cuomo in fact threatened to go to war with Rhode a Island for daring to quarantine fleeing New York bug people.

3. Large parts of the South are starting to open today or by May 1st. With no written tests or required government approval. Some limited common sense restrictions remain in place. People are expected to follow advice, not orders, and act properly.

so what’s going to start happening by next week? Why New Yorkers are going to start leaving. The same way WuHan went from a city of 10 million in ?January to a City of 2 million today. As soon as travel restrictions were lifted, everybody beat feet. The only thing keeping people in New York is the psychology of the abusive relationship. New York only beats them because it loves them. (As I’ve said before in this thread, there in nobody who hates New York more or harder than someone who escaped New York and tasted freedom.)

No. They don't.

I have no idea why this is a conservative talking point because it's objectively wrong.

Do you actually know any illegals? I do, and they get medicaid. The ones I know have jobs. Company takeover #1 got rid of those who were 100% illegal with no greencards or paperwork whatsoever. Company takeover #2 got rid of those with expired green cards. Illegals, on medicaid. I'm a registered democrat actually, just disagree with illegal assholes and troons infiltrating the ladies room.

Edit: also they each have 15 kids by 36 different fathers/mothers

OTOH it's only black women who wear hairhats.
The glass is half full.

That's true but in New York the poor get Medicaid, even illegals. A large part of the poor suffer from chronic illnesses, most of which can be managed with ongoing and preventive care, but if the state extends it to Paco and his extended family then every Hartley Hooligan and their grandma from Puebla will arrive and crash the system. Which is what happened; in fact, a huge amount of the cases filling up Elmhurst Hospital came from these "immigrant" neighborhoods. A lifetime of eating greasy tacos resulted in a lot of those China virus deaths.
