The funny thing is, canon Lotor would be insulted at them denying his wrongdoings. Granted, he doesn't canonically see them as wrongdoings, but a founding member once said "if you say Lotor committed genocide you don't deserve to be his fan." Lotor knows what he did and he defended it to the death.

In one episode, Lotor captures Allura's cousin Princess Romelle and some of her ladies, knocks Romelle out when she spurns his advances, then carries her unconscious body away. We hear a scream offscreen, then later on, Romelle stumbles back into her prison room. We don't see directly what happened to her, but it's heavily implied that she was molested in some way. This scene probably passed muster in the English version because the editors figured that kids wouldn't be able to parse what was happening. It wasn't the only example of the English version being sloppy with the censoring, but it was probably the most notorious.

Looking into it further, he did this because she had a strong resemblance to Allura, whom he was obsessed with...because Allura looks like his deceased human mother....because he's ALSO a child of rape in the original version.

In VLD's defense, the villains were still pretty dangerous even if they had sympathetic sides. Even beyond the Zarkon Family, Sendak was fucking brutal right up until Keith drove a sword through his back. And there's a reason Zethrid and Ezor were called "murder lesbians."

(The one bad edit to S8 was the excuse they made that Ezor dumped Zethrid for being too evil. This is the lady who thought of torturing the heroes as a romantic couples' activity!)

I remember reading some YT comments about DOTU's rendition of that GoLion scene (which is from episode 21, BTW), which is up in the Voltron official YT channel. Before the owners made said comments private (I cannot imagine why), near EVERY single one called DOTU!Lotor a rapist. Almost. Every. Single. One.

Never forget when some VLD-only tumblrina dumbass said "they invented Romelle so wypipo wouldn't cosplay Allura any longer" and even the peeps at Check Your Racism Tumblr got in line to whoop their ass into submission.

iirc, GoLion was a bit atypical among Super Robot shows these days because it was bloodier and more violent than the standard, to near Yoshiyuki Tomino levels. That's why there were so many edits in DOTU, it was either that or it wouldn't be "appropiate" for the 80s Western sensibilities.

tbh this says a lot about how some of them probably view real relationships. I wouldn't doubt that people like this would/do expect their significant other's live to revolve around their True Love otherwise they're cheating and don't love them enough. Remember how everyone went "Shiro doesn't like Keith anymore!" because they weren't in each other's pockets in S8? This is basically how they compensate.
