lol, I've heard that one before a few times.

Though most of the time I've heard someone get called out on constantly shitting on a game they claim to love, their reaction has primarily been to defend the shitting. In their eyes, they don't have to walk away- everyone else needs to stop being so damn problematic. That and the hyper-fixation claims are just another way of saying "I should never have to take responsibility for my own media consumption. Media should cater to my sensitivities all day every day, or it's Bad. I should be allowed to complain ruthlessly about this media in a public space full of people who like it, and expect not to receive any criticism in return because my opinion is Right and theirs is Wrong."

Dunno, it looks like a good way to have your cake and eat it too. They like complaining. They like video games and/or anime. With this setup they get to consume their media and get to complain about it. If they had to cut out "problematic" things from their life then they wouldn't get to enjoy the media and wouldn't get to complain about it, depriving them of both their hobbies.

You don't. Nine times out of ten, "boycott this fanfiction" means "leave harassing comments bitching out the author on it". I've seen it before on Archive of Our Own. Tumblr drama has a way of bleeding over onto other websites, but especially AO3.

The difference, of course, is that AO3 is a website run by competent people who do not tolerate harassment and will absolutely ban the account of anyone stupid enough to leave a harassing comment on a story (assuming that the author is smart enough to turn off anon, which then requires that you log in to your account and attach your username to it).
