VDH is a classicist. He can point out parallels between modern institutions and those of Classical Athens or Sparta but it doesn't surprise me he'd make a mathematical typo like that.

It's honestly not that weird. For those that don't know, in spanish we use the "," and "." The opposite way as in english when it comes to math (and only math), so that's why my immediate guess is he saw "2,5" and didn't realize it meant "2.5", I know it took me forever to get used to that. I do still find it hilarious though. 'Cause daym that'd have been way more horrifying.

I looked up the deaths per million trajectory for Spain and it barely broke 10 at the peak of the epidemic.

OK, I looked at the data and maybe 'barely broke 10' is understating things. Looks like it peaked at 18.56

Gov. Abbott said the stay at home order set to expire on April 30 will be allowed to expire.

He said based on advice from health experts, Texas businesses will be reopened in phases beginning Friday, May 1.

With Gov. Abbott’s new executive order all retail stores, restaurants, malls and theaters can reopen on Friday, but at 25% capacity.

Texans 65 years old and older should still stay home for now.

Barber shops, hairdressers, gyms will not be able to reopen on Friday. They could open in Phase 2.

Phase 2 could begin as early as May 18. That would expand occupancy to 50%.

“We need to see two weeks of data to confirm no flare up of COVID-19, he said.”

Yeehaw for Texas I guess. Will definitely be interesting. Great shitposts already though:

Now, in my city as I've stated before, TPTB have been screeching about the higher rate of infection in black folk.
And in states where recreational marijuana is legal, it seems to be more than just coincidence that the highest concentration of stores are in urban/black neighborhoods and said stores tend to market themselves aggressively even though smoking reportedly increases the risk of contracting COVID-19 and/or exacerbates it if contracted.

The people suffering high deductibles and underinsured are working U.S. citizens.
This seems to go hand in hand with every single Democratic Presidential candidate favoring free healthcare of illegals. Meanwhile, uninsured and underinsured individuals are encouraged to get coverage through the Marketplace (aka ACA aka Obamacare) where premiums are anything but affordable without qualifying for subsidies. The Dem's answer to that is Medicare for all(tm) with few details about who will pay (tax everyone with money, of course!) or how it will work (if you like your insurance you can still keep it... yeah right).

Some (most) restaurants need to fill those spaces to make ENDS MEET. This is going to fuck up the entire industry for so long.
I feel the most for people that opened, purchased, or otherwise assumed control of a restaurant in the past 12 months and now have debt to pay off when their going concern came grinding to a screeching halt with no restart in sight in most locations. Even unemployment and PPA funds won't necessarily come close to covering loans/rent or other fixed expenses that still come due even with a closed building.

Speaking of being able to dine in at restaurants...have been thinking about our state's governor and his plan to give qualifying older people as much as $66/day to eat at selected restaurants.
@JosephStalin - Out of curiosity, would people be required to use this money to support local restaurants or can they simply to buy whatever food they please? For most budget-conscious people, $66 -- depending on costs of living -- can be enough for up to a week's worth of groceries for one person. I can't see the state having the desire or resources to strictly monitor compliance with using these stipends soly at restaurants. Still, nothing surprises me when it comes to California.

Although I didn't copy your post about fast food joints and the costs of sit-down eating, both are valid points in that a fair number of people that were to receive this meal stipend would likely exhibit poor food decisions/eating habits in spending the money.

The income cutoff is six times the national poverty level. Checked the 2020 national poverty levels. I qualify income-wise, and with my age and health background believe I have a good chance of getting those bucks.
I saw you mention that earlier. I imagine this is in part because of California's high costs of living. If you're truly interested in taking advantage of this program, I'd say go for it. I'd rather see the money go to people that can truly benefit from it than NEETS who expect to live off of endless gibs.

Of course the states with large cities or coastal ports that generate the most income are going to be tossing the most money into the Federal till.
How is every state supposed to get more money than it puts in? I know governments like to pretend money can be generated by magic, but thus far, the reality of it has eluded them.
The way funding presently works, some states -- especially larger states and those with large urban areas -- end up being donor states (states who pay more out than they receive back). Donor states have cried about this for years and federal politicians often run on a platform that promises doing more to close the donor gap within their states, but it's difficult at best to change the funding formulas that result in this. Cuomo is free to point out how much being a donor state sucks, but political blackmail isn't going to solve the problem.

Governor Whitmer said today that she will probably reopen construction businesses and the like next.
It's not surprising to see her opening an industry ran by her union colleagues; she doesn't want them too angry at her. IIRC, the industry has wanted to remain operating since the start and assured the governor they could use social distancing and other precautions to make it work for them. Let's hope they make good on that so that Michigan's numbers improve enough to allow other businesses and industries to gradually open up in some fashion in the coming weeks.

@Kiwi Lime Pie -as I understood it, people were to use the scrip to eat at selected restaurants. This says that the meals will be prepared in local restaurants and delivered to people. Need to see what the sign-up page looks like. If I can't eat at a restaurant won't sign up. Am picky about what I eat. No desire to eat whatever shit some restaurant I wouldn't go to in the first place would try to foist off as "healthy food". Probably the cheapest slop available at the max price the state will pay, and I would have to pay sales tax.

Fuck it, I'm done. I've run out of rage, an NHS Trust has announced they plan to prioritise POCs for PPE. In England.

And then suddenly, for no reason at all, the English decided to secure the existence of their people and a future for white children.

I am mad as fuck on the Internet.

In other words, fuck white staff members, let them die.

this is actually something of a Myth. Except for 2018. Which is why Cuomo is waving 2018 numbers. While the “donor states” have shrieked about it and claimed to be donors for years, the SALT deductions previously meant that the opposite was happening. The poorer states were in fact subsidizing New York and Illinois exorbitant spending. With the SALT deductions limited, suddenly they are having to pay up.

i haven't been in Center City Philadelphia since the lockdowns started but it appears people have stopped caring, if they ever did. If the politicians try to shut down the parks in the city, people will lose their shit.

Now now Champion. If you "old" (white) British had wanted government services, you should have voted Labour every year as a bloc like good little pets. Then they wouldn't need to import replacements.

In other words, fuck white staff members, let them die.

If I was white in a company that was prioritizing BAME / POC / Woke Oppression Special Olympics champions / diversity pets for lifesaving protective gear I'd immediately refuse to work and sue the everloving shit out of them.

You might win in the US. In the UK, Canada, Australia, or NZ, they'd just explain that because breaking the law is power + crime, and white people have all the power, only White people can break the law, nonwhites can only commit crime which is completely different, and after all they're just making up for 20,000 centuries of white oppression so you should probably pay reparations in addition to catching the Pinko Pox. Gotta get those white deaths up to the imported Dindu deaths, for equity!

The Pinko Pox is gonna have to get a lot worse before the social conditioning to self-hate and worship brown people is gonna break, sadly. And long before that occurs the people performing social conditioning to make you think that way will take measures to adjust and react to things.

Something like... "Food shortages are a huge problem, but you know what's a bigger problem? White people feeding their families before they feed poor innocent widdle brown people wot dindu nuffin. Starve your children for equity!"

A scrip program would make more sense than handing out cash or its equivalent and expecting recipients to use it as intended.

I also can't blame you for wanting no part of the program if it doesn't suit your needs or serves food that's marginal at best in terms of price, quality, and palatability.

Study finds coronavirus could be more contagious than previously thought

My take? It's CBS however it is an interesting report. For months I have stated that this is the most contagious virus I have ever seen. It has too many variables of getting people infected. And when infected it is attacking in many different areas on what looks like the entire body. From skin to brain to digestive tract to organs. I have never seen something this bad infest people in so many ways and damage so much of your body.

This also links why people are more prone getting ill in more polluted areas..
And remember there are several different strains out there as well.
This all makes sense. Especially if the Virus piggy backs on particulate matter as well.

This also make sense when certain home made material for masks is better than others.
https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-materials-make-diy-face-mask-virus/

And of course I stated to use a Hepa Filter device as well in your home.... several months in advance...
I stand by what I have stated in the past and will stand by what I have stated now. Because I'm Not sick and I've had to go to several different areas where people get sick. Like Hospitals to pick up medication that they can't mail. Perfectly free from the illness because I followed the Mantra of staying safe, which was posted here many of times on this topic.

This virus will not go away. It will be a seasonal thing and how bad the viruses mutate depends on the severity of the strain.

As stated before I believe some if not all of the virus will go dormant in the Summer months in the US but that all depends on your location and environment. We already seen on the geographical satellite maps that pollution went down across the globe. So when things start go back to some sort of normalcy, and they will, the pollution will increase so be prepared several months down the road for the strains to rear it's ugly head once again.

There's not a whole lot they can do anyway, tbh. Well, there's things they could try, but given that they're calling the doctor in Texas who tried HCQ on his patients, a "Nazi".... who's abusing human rights and likened him to Tuskegee...
The medical profession is just as fucked as journalism.

There's no realism anymore. People die. You cannot save everyone from everything. Everyone dies. Everything dies.
Sometimes, despite your best efforts, they die. There's an expectation from the public, politics and the academia that if you don't save someone's life, someone is to blame and it's just not the case.

What's even worse than not accepting it, is academia saying "you must do this and only this" - like ventilators. Some doctors were protesting the use of ventilators because it's end game shit and they were told not to push the system.
Now they've found that straight oxygen works better. That dumb blonde thot doctor in NY who was pushing ventilators because it was "safer" for her staff should have to face an inquiry, but she never will, because she's part of the inner circle.

When potential treatments are couched in terms of "Nazi experiments" and new protocols are only approved after they've passed the approval of out of touch politicised higher-ups, the profession isn't working as it should.

This whole thing shouldn't have been overblown from the get go and used as a political/social/economical grey swan event. Cuomo has been the main perpetrator of that.
but given that they're calling the doctor in Texas who tried HCQ on his patients, a "Nazi".... (Archive)

Meanwhile, the UK Government has done two things today.

The first is Downing Street just fucking gives up with the useless lobby, and are now asking the public to submit questions. Which matches with, at a time when watching TV in the mornings is all people can do Good Morning Britain's ratings have collapsed by an eye watering 48%.

The other is they're pushing the winddown tests again, with some of the data starting to look good, with the UK 7 day rolling average starting to drop. It's hopefully likely the next fortnight will see us begin lifting lockdown.

My neighbour's brother now has Corona-chan, making them the third person they know to have got it.
