Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

"Spain began to suffer a viral death rate of over 2,500 fatalities per million population,"

I think he's exagerating by a bit there. Agree with the rest. But... 2 fucking THOUSAND per million? Does this guy think Spain has a population of 10 million? Even then it wouldn't be the rate, not even the total but either way. I think he should recheck his math. My best guess is he meant to use "2.5" instead, I guess.
He didn't say daily death rate. (though he did kind of imply it) . Just Death rate, which I think in Spain is 500 per million.
It's possible if you draw a border around the worst affected areas it might be 5 times higher than the national average. Maybe? Grasping at straws.

A lot of this shit doesn't add up. To take a quote from WWII, there's something phony about this pandemic.
Deleted the tarded stuff about short isolation weakening your immune system. But I also feel there's something not right. Phony is a word I've used myself. The shit coming out of the TV does not relate at all to the evidence of my lying eyes. I still don't know anyone personally who has definitely caught it. Though I've spoken to plenty who think they may have had a mild case (me included) .
Whole thing just feels weird now. I'm getting ansty. Don't particularly want to go back to work. But I do feel ready for fight. Or a random act of stupidity.

I would bet you need to spend some time with someone in an enclosed area like in an elevator or on public transport or a plane or a funeral or a sit down restaurant or an office to catch this. People have been blatantly disregarding general social distancing rules when out and about carrying out their daily business for weeks now and cases have not shot up.
Agree. In the articles about the Google/Apple tracking apps discussed a while back they mentioned that a "contact" would not just be coming near an infected person. It would require staying in range for 15 minutes I think. It's all roll of the dice stuff, like getting cancer from radiation. Certain levels of exposure might infect you, but odds are you'll be OK until you roll the dice enough times.

My humble opinion about this pandemic is that there is a real novel virus that we were not immune to. However, this is being treated as an opportunity to deal with massive rot in the economy that exists now and existed well before the virus.

The virus is used as a pretext to many actions that negatively impact the economy. Then it will be used to prolong the slump and fleecing the sheep.

I don't think these are smart elites planning for some grand scheme. I think it's stupidity combined with greed and bunch of smaller and bigger wheeler-dealers working together to destroy the world. Just like always...

Robert Peston almost singlehandedly whipped up a bank run that crashed a major mortgage lender.

It never ceases to amaze me that no one ever seems to mention fucking Northern Rock when considering his qualities as a journalist.

Thank fuck he isn’t deployed as foreign editor somewhere or we would all need Anderson shelters again

I had to look that up

https://archive.vn/IdPdO

When someone at the Bank of England (or the Treasury?) leaked to him that Northern Rock was turning to the Bank for support, Peston rationally decided to reveal all to the public in the BBC's Thursday 13 September 2007 evening broadcasts. Peston argues that it was in the public interest to do so. This is debatable. What is clear, however, is that it was a good way for him to maximise his objective function. The leaker likely figured that news of the intervention would be made public anyway through the weekly return, so decided to jump the gun and talk to Peston much earlier. But it was quite clear to anyone who has studied any financial history that a bank run would ensue. Indeed, I was waiting at the entrance to my local Northern Rock branch early on the Friday morning to watch the queues as they started to form.

States are starting to feel the pinch of lockdown and realized they are running out of money quicker than they can say "hold up what the fuck are we doing"
It's also being noticed federally too. With so many people not working or seeing reductions in hours/pay, there is much less social security and medicare taxes being withheld. This could not only affect the rate increase for 2021, but move up the date when either program might become insolvent in that they start paying out more in benefits versus what's being collected in taxes.

it will impact OUR social security.

not the boomers enforcing these lockdowns who don't even need to go outside anyway.

A scrip program would make more sense than handing out cash or its equivalent and expecting recipients to use it as intended.

I also can't blame you for wanting no part of the program if it doesn't suit your needs or serves food that's marginal at best in terms of price, quality, and palatability.

A few counties have already been doing something like this. My guess is vouchers/card/scrip is issued and the person can go anywhere on a 19-page list, least in Los Angeles County. Most of those places are fast food eateries. Our county is more of a tourist county, near the coast, anyway, and there are all sorts of restaurants. God only knows which ones would be picked and what they may try to serve.

is developing herd immunity a good idea or is it better to keep thing locked down?

There's plenty of data to suggest that herd immunity and lockdowns don't affect the spread of the virus whatsoever.

So it's dumber to keep things locked down. If we're all going to be forced into herd immunity anyway, then we might as well have a functioning economy and have our civil liberties intact.

The IRS finally received whatever info it needed from TurboTax and I was able to input my account for direct deposit. Gimme those Trumpbux!

Might be worth re-checking yours if you haven’t in a few days, @JosephStalin

Our idiotic governor is promising to tell us whether or not he will extend the lockdowns past May 4th...by the middle of this week. It’s not like people’s lives are being played with or anything, but he doesn’t seem to give a shit at this point.

So far she's not very sick but Typhoid Cunty and her ilk catch it and then spread it to others who may not be as lucky. Keep crying about mask rape.

Indiana got a spike of cases, over 900 in one day but more than half came from one county sourced around a Tyson processing plant.

Holy shit these large scale meat processing places are pretty terrible to work for. I worked with people who worked at or lived in areas that majority of the employment came from Smithfield and Tyson. They told me some lousy things like threatening to fire if they took off for a parent's funeral or purposely laying off employees and have them rehire with lower wages.

Scarier part is that US food supply rely heavily on these operations and no one can fathom what will happen to food supply in the coming future.

The place I work at is a service business that does mostly scheduled appointments. It's not a hair salon though, so it's not what you'd call a "necessity business" that people are going to rush into once the lockdown is ended. The governor waiting for the very last second to make up his mind hurts us because it's going to take time for new appointments to trickle in, and my boss can't schedule appointments for next week, because she has no idea if there's going to be a lockdown or not. This may result in her employees having no or vastly fewer hours next week, meaning we'll make far less than we would have if we had been working full time or had still been on unemployment. If the governor had given us at least 1 week (ideally two weeks) advance notice of opening, we could have had appointments all lined up plus we would have been able to collect unemployment for those weeks.

Politicians just have no clue how work works for the average person.

Yeah, was finally able Friday to input the bank info. No news yet on when payment will be made. Check bank and IRS site tool daily.

These governors, as a whole, are getting off on this power trip. Can't tell if they have been studying Hitler's or my namesake's rule book for fucking with the people. Maybe some of both, with plenty of local Gestapos/NKVDs ready to deny people their Constitutional rights at the drop of a mask. They simply don't care if or how they jerk people around regarding opening things up. Remember, these bastards never miss one of their bloated paychecks.

Don't believe the lost trust in government and law enforcement will be regained any time soon, if ever.

STUNNING AND BRAVE. THEY'RE HEROES.

Seriously though ... Imagine the government telling you that your whole livelihood is "non-essential" because we needed to protect our doctors and nurses ... And then you see this shit.

I have heard it on good authority that several hospitals in my area are pretty much empty and are making Staff take time off because theres nothing for them to do.

States got like, 23 people in hospital currently with Covid 19, out of just under 6 and a half million people.

Infact the state government raised its ban on non essential surgeries on Monday to try to keep hospitals open and making money.

Sorry, don’t know how to archive videos on mobile, but this clip from Tucker was fantastic: NYC Shop Owner Opens Up Retail Store in Defiance of Lockdown

I think we’ll be seeing more and more of this if governments don’t get with it and start opening things up. Civil disobedience used to be drilled into most Americans as a patriotic thing to do, and older people like this guy thankfully still remember those lessons.

I sincerely hope the governor gets his head out of his ass quickly and at the very least gives some notice before opening up for the reasons you’ve outlined. No matter what, sending good thoughts to you and the business. Once things are open again, I know I’ll be rushing out to support anyone providing a service I’ve been holding out on. First on the list: a proper car wash and scheduling some “non-essential“ doctor’s appointments. In the meantime, might just drive to Iowa to dine in a restaurant for the fun of it, since that governor wants a functioning economy.

Excellent, glad to hear it. I figured worst case, a paper check would show up, but thought I’d check their site once more before completely giving up on direct deposit.
