Exactly. It’s even worse because if she knows what it is, she knows the extreme stigma that true torture survivors face after the Satanic Panic. Faking this only worsens the stigma. And she calls herself an advocate? Disgusting.
Also, Dr. Grande did a video about malingering! I know it’s about psychosis, but I think he’s paying close attention. He confirms that it’s easy to fake and difficult to catch. I’m watching it now and will update how it might apply to Chloe.
I am procrastinating so I did it. I'm not as big of a Chloe expert as some here however, so I'm probably missing some stuff. A lot of it also refers specifically to a therapeutic relationship, so it's hard to know, but I tried.
1. Unlikely symptom combinations (e.g., saying you have Major Depressive Disorder but repeatedly appearing happy or reporting happiness).
-Claims frequent and severe amnesia and dissociation, yet shows no impaired awareness of daily life/disruption even while in the middle of filming videos.
-Claims to be heavily traumatised yet never seems to exhibit the classic symptom of avoiding memories and topics reminiscent of the trauma, quite the opposite. Similarly, she doesn't seem to exhibit any of the less marketable trauma symptoms like sleep problems, fear of intimate relationships, addiction.
-The absurd symptoms she reports (like the vast intricacies of the inner world, the weird ways her alters integrate and split and integrate, the bizarre alter forms).
2. Uncooperativeness in a therapeutic context.
See: Chloe's frustration with her former therapist.
3. Saying "I don't know" a lot to basic questions.
N/A on youtube but who knows in therapy.
4. Intimidation or anger in a therapeutic context.
Unknown.
5. Upset by benign questions.
Not as far as I know.
6. Hesitation when answering, as if trying to construct a narrative.
Her videos are so heavily edited and rehearsed this is hard to ascertain. However, she definitely did a lot of research through M&M and scouring Ritual Abuse fb groups to construct her narrative.
7. Asking therapist how they answered a question before.
N/A
8. Accusing you of inferring they are faking.
-Her first video mentions that she used to think DID was fake until she got diagnosed because her's is so super real.
-Chloe made that FAKING A DISORDER!? (DID) video where she basically claimed that you can never tell if someone's faking and it's fucked up to ever suggest it.
-Was also seemingly threatened by being connected to Trisha Paytas pretending to have DID because of her wide viewership, which might make others think she's fake.
-Others suggested this may be the reason for her frustration with her former therapist.
-There's probably more but idk.
9. Vague answers.
-WRT her trauma, she loves to imply a lot of contradictory and never concrete but ominous sounding stuff.
-Her response to the Nan thing.
10. Internal inconsistencies (i.e. in reported history).
-Jumping in the lake that became hanging in the forest.
-Invisible burns.
-The being kicked out of Uni for having DID bullshit story.
-The many stories about how and when she first suspected she first had DID.
-Saying she had a really happy childhood and then implying her childhood home was too scary to return to.
-etc. etc.
11. External inconsistencies (reported symptoms compared to level of functioning and reported symptoms compared to observed symptoms).
-Not to repeat myself, but the level of disability the frequent switches and amnesia (and the trauma itself) would cause would impede her functioning to a severe and observable degree. She never struggled to upload videos on time before the drama, She's always very well-put together even if I personally think her styling sucks.
-Her dissociation doesn't look like dissociation. She never seems to display any fears around other people or in public as you would expect from someone with trauma severe enough to cause DID. She never struggles to function in public or displays a lack of necessary knowledge even when she's supposed to have the mind of a five year old. She seems very comfortable having a huge public presence which she manages entirely alone although you would think she would be too psychologically fragile to handle what comes with that.
Edit: a word
