It really is a shame that he wasn't put in gifted classes, though; everyone involved would have been quickly disabused of the notion that Bob was smart when he was still bored, but now also frustrated and failing. Instead, this faulty unchallenged notion of his intelligence was allowed to fester, and form the core of a truly rank and noxious personality.

Would that have changed anything ultimately? Knowing what we know of Bob's vainglory (he's a gourmand that can bench 300, survive for days in the wilderness with only his knife, is a deadly shot with his pellet gun TRUE and HONEST pistol, etc) he'd probably take failing at AP to mean that he was too advanced even for that, and that his true brilliance would only be revealed when he had his harem of Staceys and was sending the Chads away to toil on the moon wheat plantations.

There are some things that would have shaped up Bob; Boot Camp is one of them, but at that ship has long since sailed.

Funny story: I have family in the general vicinity of the Smithfield plant that had to shut down because of a Wu Flu outbreak. One of them called to check up on us and got to talking about the shutdown, and she relayed some info that you won't hear on the national news: apparently, that plant was pretty much completely full of foreigners from a multitude of countries speaking a bunch of different languages (I think I heard it's also owned by Chinese, but I might be misremembering). Any sort of info on the virus essentially couldn't be disseminated because of all the language barriers, so that's why there was a massive outbreak there.

The irony here is how Blobbo once again gets upset about politicians catering to white Midwesterners when it's a bunch of his beloved precious brown people that aren't able to work. You'd also think he wouldn't want anything to get in the way of his precious McNuggies, which could very well happen if the food supply chain continues to be disrupted.

Especially post-Wu Flu, people are caring less and less about nebulous "identities" and more about physical, tangible things that matter, like finding (and keeping) a job, supporting their family, and staying healthy. People can't afford to devote energy to someone whinging about trans rights or reparations anymore, and if we're lucky, we'll all be able to look back on the 2010s as the last gasp of idpol. The sooner these fuckers become completely irrelevant, the better.

1. His school did not offer a gifted track.
2. Later, he was told that he should have been in a gifted track except one did not exist.

So whether or not Young Robert deserved to be in it there was no gifted track for him to be in regardless. That's the underlying criticism of his parents, that they didn't send him to a different school.

when i went to school, they had something called "enriched" classes. You know what those were? EXTRA FUCKING HOMEWORK. That's IT. There was no special wizard magic imparted by the teacher that couldn't have been gotten from the "core" (normal) classes. My parents got bamboozled into sticking me into "enriched" because I R smrt. (well, I am, but I FUCKING HATE SCHOOLWORK with the fire of a thousand suns, hate it even more if I have to do any at home and was furious when I figured out "enriched" equals extra waste of time doing schoolwork at home because it doesn't make your grades automatically better). The other end of the track was "Learning Assistance", which was used as a threat by at least one teacher who would say to the goof-offs, "If you don't smarten up, I'll have you put in L.A.L.A." which meant "Learning Assistance Language Arts". This was like one step away from special ed, and had similar stigma attached.

So no, Blob wasn't missing a goddamn thing by not going with "gifted", because you know what? Gifted isn't for lazy people or people who hate schoolwork. It's for people who FUCKING LOVE SCHOOLWORK. And bob doesn't strike me as that type.
