Report: EA Is Remastering The ‘Mass Effect’ Trilogy At Long Last (Unconfirmed)

despite its hiccups with the Mass Effect 3 ending at launch,

I can't even overstate how much of an understatement this is. Mass Effect 3's ending caused one of the biggest shitstorms in gaming history. I hadn't even played the games at that point and even I knew about it. And even with the updates it's still a letdown just for how empty and anticlimactic it is.

Really, unless the remaster completely redoes the ending of 3, I have no interest in this. Sure, it might be nice to have console versions that run at 60 fps and aren't optimized like ass, but the PC version's been like that for years. Hell, I can run the first two on my shitty laptop (maybe even 3 but I haven't tried it). The only way I'd ever spend money on this is if they actually go out of their way to fix the gaping narrative problems that plagued 2 and 3 (2 really not accomplishing much in the grand scheme of things and walking back on the Council's decision on the Reapers, 3's stupid "organics vs synthetics" bullshit and not even allowing the player to see the effects of their choices at the end), but there's not a chance in hell EA would ever do that because that would require them to remake those games from the ground up.

I love Mass Effects 1 and 2, but even I'm not thrilled at this idea.

Why. Seriously, what's the point? All the talent that made Mass Effect good is gone. Bioware is a husk (hurrr) of its former self.

The only way to make it good would be a full on reboot of the series, and I doubt that's the plan.

The same reason every other developer remakes stuff: money. Nevermind the fact that there are a lot of other older games arguably more deserving of a full on remake or port. It's not old enough to have nostalgia, be trapped on a console nobody owns, or be a hidden gem that demands a 3d remake. It's a tainted franchise most people either have played in the past, or can play today on the PC or with the Xbox One BC mode.

I would ask for a full on do over of some aspects of the trilogy particuarly in 1 and 3. In 1 tighten up the controls and combat and revamp the Mako to actually make it fun to use (or at the very least not frustrating). For 2 the only real change would be make mineral scanning less of a chore. For 3 the gameplay is perfectly fine so that leaves the story. Make war assets have more significance than what endings are available to you and redo everything after Turchanka. However this is likely going to be a simple remaster and not anything major so I'm not expecting much. Just make the game look prettier, throw in all the DLC, and dont add microtransactions to multiplayer for 3. As long as these conditions are fulfilled I'll be perfectly content (will probably buy it used though so EA wont get any cash).

Probably unpopular opinion here, but when you're only going back one previous console generation (PS3/360) to "remaster" something, it's time to fucking stop and release more original shit

Then again I hate the whole "remastering/reboot/re-telling/etc..." idea as a whole, no matter if it's video-games or tv shows/cartoons.

The one time I think remaking a game from only one previous console generation actually worked was when they remade the first Resident Evil game for the Gamecube in 2002. Really, the reason why that worked was mainly because of the better voice acting and the addition of Lisa Trevor.

The Resident Evil remakes set the standard for video game remakes, I even enjoyed the RE3 remake despite being so brief and the remakes of the PS1-era Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon games were also good.

Remaking Mass Effect is a little gratuitous in my opinion, and this isn't even a remake but a remastered port.

The most recent I'd go back for video game remakes at this point would be the PS2 era, and even then I'd prefer if we had more new original IP's.

THQ Nordic is going the remaster route after buying several lost franchises back from bankruptcy. That was when THQ was known for kids games and niches.

EA, however, has a bad track record with milking their consumers.

For instance, Madden 21 won't incorporate Smart Delivery. You'd have to buy the Xbox One version by December 31 and then play Series X by March 2021. Why?

Mass Effect 1 for PS3 didn’t come out in 2007. The first game was originally published by Microsoft and EA couldn’t release it on PS2 until the exclusivity ended.

All the asari faces will be as butt ugly as they were Andromeda, and they'll make Miranda wear a business suit instead of a catsuit. Jack will be unromanceable because she's so scarred as a victim, and in the third game you will be forced into a gay relationship.

This would be an easy money grab if they did it correctly ie just update the graphics and game engine a bit, and even fixing the ending for 3 wouldn't be necessary but would be nice to see just as an olive branch to consumers. But seeing how these assholes operate like in Naughty Dog or what's become of Bioware in the Dragon Age division, it will get woke shit shoved down its throat.

On one hand I do want Original Stuff, however given how technology and computers work..I am not against remasters of things so long as they are reasonably priced. I would hate for what happened to Gaming to happen with Movies and TV and we lose vast swaths of the mediums history.

I almost guarantee you they'll cut out that Renegade response when Liara tells you that asari can have kids with females, and you can say that's disgusting. That's blatant homophobia (and I mean that unironically), and there's no way that's gonna make the cut.

In a game where Cereal Killer Kai Leng, forced PTSD child, literal Deus Ex Machina, paid Chobot nepotism, EDI thotbot, and on-disc DLC exists but they're good guises, because ending bad.
