My wishful thinking is that Chris is regretting his troonout and since Sonichu is outwardly male, it’s a way for him to act like his pre-troon self without having to admit that he fucked up thinking he was a lesbian in a male’s body.

Also my ongoing theory was that it helped distance him from his old self that associates with being trolled, but at this point in the documentary it’s now Christine being the source of mockery. He might feel like he needs to discard that identity too and the whole Sonichu possession is the first step toward that. I hope.

I think chris is psychologically trying to distance himself from... well, himself. or rather everything he's done and said. He treats the documentary like its following a fictional character. If sonichu says something controversial chris can 'come back' and say 'no, that was my son. I didn't say that.'

My theory on why he dropped the Magi-Chan act so fast is because Magi-Chan is supposed to be mature, calm, serious, all knowing and masculine etc. Everything Chris is not, but want somebody to be like that to care for him. So "being" Magi-Chan while doing the day to day retarded shit that Chris does really breaks the character so much and is not helping with the cope, thus he switched back. Sonichu on the other hand, is way better for Chris to escape to.

A very good point. Chris is probably just self-aware enough to realise that constantly complimenting himself would be seen as the laughable lies that such compliments would be. But Magi-Chan is incredibly wise and insightful and Sonichu is the ultimate stand-up kind of a guy. Compliments from them, he reasons, will be much more readily believed and/or accepted as genuine. Back in school, a teacher who was probably sick of dealing with Chris not being able to have an original thought in his mind told Chris that he could get away with Sonichu for a mere school art project.

Fastforward nearly three decades, and Chris is now pretending to be possessed by his self-professed son Sonichu, with an entire well-documented online history of how central that character always has been to his life (fading in and out but never leaving).

I don't think there's a finer example of the influence somebody can have on other people than simply wondering how different Chris's life would have been had that teacher not given Chris the easy way out of the assignment and told him Sonichu was not original.
