There was an episode where the main characters and a cat girl killed all the rich people that were using the purge to keep the poor people busy. Then they left people to rebuild from the scraps of their society, and the first thing they did was designate a purge day.

This is why I love how Podemos destroyed the 2 party system over here and gave rise to Vox, Ciudadanos, and a billion small local parties. Sure most of these new parties are slightly fucked in the head and specially Vox has been the biggest disapointment ever (I swear at one point they looked half sane but they've gone so far off the deep end that even saying that gets you odd looks now, fuck even Murcia and Basque Country abandoned them. Some actually do.

But more often they move out and want to make the new location more like what their ideal is (they don't change their values, just the place they came from became too crazy and outside their values, after all). So they start voting for democrats in the area, and once the area starts turning more purple (but still sane) the crazies smell it and laser-focus their attention on that new area like fucking zombies on a slow fat guy.

The crazies see it as an area that is now possible to change to their crazy ideals (where before they couldn't stomach the thought of living in the "fascist" red-zone) and flock to the new place in an attempt to "progressivize" it as fast as possible.

Which tends to work because, even though they're unreliable voters themselves and are an extreme minority in the country (only 8%-11% of the electorate are "progressives"), they're incredibly loud and extremely politically active (even though they don't vote). So they bum-rush and chewbacca defense their way into making the sane candidates (especially the sane republican candidates) seem like literal Hitler.

They then use social/peer pressure ("activism") to gaslight the sane(ish) dems that moved into voting for crazy progressive candidates, because "the other side is literal Hitler and you don't want to be the bad guy on the wrong side of history, do you". If the sane(ish) democrats try to hold an actual conversation to get into the nuances of the issues, or show any level of compromise or willingness to listen and discuss with "the enemy", they're shunned, cancelled, and told they can no longer be a part of their own political party (a recent example of this was all the democratic candidates coming out to state "if you're pro-life, you can no longer be a democrat party member at all" and activists being loud and whiny until any pro-life dems got fed up and left their party positions).

And then the process repeats again.

The main problem for "progressives" is that they get more extreme and crazy each cycle, and they keep eating their own and alienating (now) former democrats. Each "cycle" they get crazier, while more and more former-democrats become "red-pilled" to some extent (becoming willing to vote for republicans). Smart right wingers are (and most should be) welcoming those alienated with open arms, even if they disagree on a lot of issues.

Anyway, eventually this will result in a really, really hard slap-back to the right (which somewhat happened in 2016). Especially since the progressive movement keeps getting impatient and exponentially ratcheting up the crazy to try and radically change everything all the time at every level. If they were actually patient we'd really be fucked since they've been indoctrinating (with full out cult-like behavior of isolating from family and friends) folks at a lot of colleges for over a decade and it's really hard for people to escape that shit.

Those of us that are sane (right or left) can only hope and pray the slap-back isn't so hard we shoot right over "sanity" and land into "actual fascism".
