Ellie in her quest revenge not only failed miserably to achieve her goals, but lost her girlfriend, her child, her friends, and the ability to play the only thing left to her by the person she was trying to avenge. The last of us ends on a hopeful note of Joel and Ellie overlooking the future they will share. The last of us 2 ends with Ellie abandoned and alone in a fucking crack shack failing to play guitar because she has no fingers.
