All these papers deal with patients with dental malocclusions (misalignment of teeth), and none of the surgery fetishists from sluthate, as far as I know, complain about teeth problems (typical complains about their appearances are I'm only 4/10 and I look like a bird). Yes, surgery is undoubted warranted with severe cases of malocclusions, but to recommend operation to someone who are just prissy about their looks is like recommending a gluten-free diet to everyone with mild bowel problems, because such diet is good for patients with celiac disease. In other words: quackery.

"...Preoperatively, aesthetic reasons were the primary motive for seeking surgery in 95% of patients. Postoperatively, 85% of the patients were positive about the outcome of surgery as well as its effect on their quality of life. Postoperative improvement of facial aesthetics of the patients was associated with improvement of their quality of life in all aspects tested"

Jaw surgery addresses function + aesthetics. Form follows function. Two birds, one stone.

EDIT: A lot of people that are considered unattractive have skeletal maloclussions

Of course this is the case, but it has nothing to do with improving their looks to any degree.
They just had a surgery done that they have convinced themselves erases their flaws, so post surgery of course they're going to report 'an improved quality of life' simply due to the fact that they've gained confidence that they were severely lacking otherwise.
Nothing important has changed aside from their mindset.
The same thing would happen if I handed you a bottle of sugar pills and managed to convince you that they made you happier, or more attractive, or helped you lose weight (in conjunction with healthy eating and exercise). It's simply a placebo.
And once that initial high wear off? Well the surgery/pills/whatever worked once, so you go and try them again. That's how people get hooked on things like plastic surgery.
It's as true for men and women, which is why you'll see that smoking hot lady walk into a surgeons office complaining about a fold of fat that no one else can see; the initial high has worn off and she needs to go back under the knife to feel good about herself again. She's convinced the problem is with her body and not with her mind.
Sound familiar?

Is the huge financial loss to have jaw surgery performed to fix minor "imperfections" really worth the risk?

Probably OT, please forgive. I read that link and comments etc, and oh my fucking GOD there is no way what that lady has gone through was worth it to fix her "confidence". She also looks way fucking worse now, what with the front of her face missing and her teeth mostly gone. God help her.

I'm sorry, that's what I meant by "genetically complete human" - a human who achieved his complete potential. I worded it wrong.

There is no such thing as "complete potential" genetically or otherwise. You're injecting an idea that there is a perfect genetic makeup that people should strive for. This is eugenics claptrap. You're born with the genes you have. There is no ultimate potential that is achieved by being born.

As Stratomsk always preaches to me, can you provide any proof of your claims? It feels like you're pulling stuff out your ass.

"Sometimes termed lookism, physical attractiveness phenomenon encompasses the reality that people behave toward individuals in ways strongly biased by their physical attractiveness (Patzer 2008; Etcoff, 1999). The bias strongly favors higher physical attractiveness and disfavors lower physical attractiveness (Berscheid and Walster, 1972; Dion, Berscheid, and Walster, 1972). This phenomenon is powerful, pervasive, and often unrecognized or denied (Patzer 2006). It impacts every individual—regardless of sex— around the world, ranging from the smallest towns to the largest cities, and ranging from the least developed countries to the most developed. In regards to this phenomenon, Journal of Management and Marketing Research Physical attractiveness, page 5 instantly upon sight, people consciously and subconsciously assess the physical attractiveness dimension(s) of a person’s appearance."

"Although particular fashions and fads vary between groups of people, physical attractiveness phenomenon itself does not vary. Data from diverse published research projects conducted through scientifically sound procedures and standards provide a robust inventory of consistent results regardless of culture, country, or time in history. Moreover, prior findings combined with ongoing research compose a robust, everincreasing, understanding about physical attractiveness phenomenon"

"Empirical research data as well as anecdotal data about consumer behavior, business enterprises, individual successes and failures, and society overall, have answered definitely the great importance placed upon a person’s physical attractiveness throughout the related research and throughout related the lives of individuals."

All I'm saying is

physical attractiveness = social and economic advantages = others (physical ugliness) unfortunately pay a cost to those advantages that p.a. receive
physical ugliness = moderate to severe degree of skeletal deformity (aka underbite, overbite, open bite, crossbite) = can be corrected with orthognathic surgery
orthognathic surgery = surgery that addresses function + aesthetics = improving the quality of life

@Stratomsk Of course there are risks; it's unfortunate that that girl had a terrible experience, but the data still shows that most people are content with their results. 85% is a pretty high contention rate in my opinion. I also beleive that there are risks to anything you do in life; even though we know we could get into a fatal car accident when driving, a good number of us still do knowing this fact.

Honestly, if you'd just come out and say "I think Chad's get treated better then ugly guys by women" instead of posting massive walls of text, it would make you feel a lot better.

Then why are you:

a) posting at sluthate
b) so adamant to try and convince us you're right about your theory?

annd cue the negative cognitive bias towards anything I say because I admitted I posted at sluthate.com.

1) Every thread I've posted on sluthate is about aesthetics and what others can do improve their physical deformities. I've never bought into the ER worship or Chad theories. I do believe that physical attractiveness is an important factor in life, though it is largely out of one's control.
2)Because sluthate exaggerates in every one of their "theories." Despite this, there is an ounce of truth in what they are saying.

All I've highlighted this entire time is the importance of aesthetics and the "minimum requirements" of aesthetics.

Again, you're coming off as quite defensive here:

"I TOTALLY DON'T BUY INTO SLUTHATE'S THEORIES! HONEST I DON'T! AND I'M STRAIGHT! NOT GAY!"

Keep attacking me with personal insults instead of addressing what I'm arguing about.

Not sure how me saying you're getting defensive when certain matters are brought up is a personal insult, but ok then...

Look brah, if you were really secure in your being straight, you would have laughed off or ignored CatParty when he asked if you were gay. Just saying...

Explain your logical reasoning to me because its looking pretty damn flawed.

I agree there is a cognitive bias, but it's not completely unjustified. One has to question the mentality of anyone who would post on a site named "sluthate".

Physical attractiveness can be an important factor for some people. I do not believe there is a universal consensus on what constitutes physical attractiveness. It varies by culture and individual preferences.

I'm not sure anyone quite knows what they're saying. There's way too much rhetoric, hyperbole and hatefulness to garner a clear view.

What more can I say. I provided legitimate peer-reviewed studies to back up my claims.

My logical reasoning is based on your posts here:

CatParty: Dude, are you gay?

Stoned Tablet: NO! I'M NOT GAY! I'M STRAIGHT! I LIKE WOMEN! STOP ASKING ME THAT!

CatParty: Are you sure?

Stoned Tablet: I AM STRAIGHT! YOU'RE DA HOMOS!

Yes, I'm straight. I never said anyone was gay. This is literally the dumbest thing for you to pick on. Move on.

Again, being quite defensive. Who said I was picking on you? All I'm doing is pointing out how you chimp out and get defensive when you get asked certain questions (are you gay?/why are you posting at sluthate if you don't agree with their methods?)
